Upon arrival we were promptly met by the lovely Hotel manager Mario and reception staff who explained what we needed to know on our first day. We had a standard room with a double bed, first floor that had a small balcony with table and chairs. Nicely positioned with a side view of the sea and mainland Italy/Islands. Room was very comfortable, not too big, more than sufficient for our needs as a couple. Room had safe, mini bar fridge (big enough for your own goodies), tv, air con and roll down shutters.
Furnishings in reception were very vice and the area was very bright and spacious. There was an open patio area with umbrellas for shade where you could enjoy your breakfast, lunch or evening entertainment. Restaurant was fabulous and we were lucky enough to be given a table next to the large sliding windows that had the most amazing views over the sea as the hotel was nicely positioned on a cliff. The breakfast and evening meal was made so much more enjoyable with the attention given by the lovely Maître D, Luigi, he was fantastic. Also thank you to Raffael who was equally attentive. You must prepare yourself for the evening meal as we soon found out, the portions on top of the extensive salad bar were extremely substantial, not a moment of hunger all week, the complete opposite. Meals were ordered in advance at breakfast time where the choice was very welcoming, pastas, soups, risotto's, fish and meat dishes that were always followed by equally sumptuous deserts. Breakfast was equally substantive with all salad vegetables, fruits, meats, cheeses, boiled eggs, choices of bread, pastries, yoghurt's, juices and more. Once a week there was a gala night (Thursday). Coffee machine with choice for all and tea.
The Hotel has two pools, one warmer than the other as both are partly fed with thermal water from the islands volcanic sources. The really warm one was such a pleasure as the evening began to draw in, but the other more large pool was equally attractive with its views as it was set higher up the hotel facility.
There were steps down from the hotel garden to the beach. Initially on first week it had partial sun but as the second week set in, was predominantly in the shade. Don't let this put you off as once you were in the sea that started quite shallow you were once again emerged into brilliant sunshine. There was also the option to walk away from the hotels beach onto the nearby public beach that had more sun. Whatever it was very enjoyable, sea was warm and is safe for children. Nearby was the Spiaggia Inglese which was about ten minutes walk, part public and private. Hotel gardens and pool areas have more than ample sun beds. The hotel is set on different levels which for some may be quite a task due to the way the property sits on the side of the cliff/mountain. Knowing the hotel management I am sure they will accommodate most reasonable requests for those less able.
The property also had a small gym/beauty salon. Beautiful gardens with views across bay of Naples and nearby islands. After comparing locations of other hotels in Ischia Ponte, felt that this hotel was very well located in a quiet rural area and right on the beach.
Beer prices for a large draft were €7 each, wine started at €11 for a bottle, large bottle of water €3.
Internet is available at a charge.
Local info - Local supermarket will cost about €1.30 large bottle of beer, wine from appx €1.80, large soft drinks/water appx €1.30 - €2.00. Take away pizza (Pagoda) from clay oven, starting at a fabulous €2. Also you can enjoy a lovely pasta/toasted ciabatta in the Pirama pub, they were very welcoming and look after their returning customers ( beer is €3 for large Peroni or €4 for large draft). All are situated within 10 - 15 mins walk at the Port area from the hotel gardens through the cobbled streets. Again prepare yourself for the return uphill climb, but very beautiful. To walk into main town where the shops are, appx 15 - 20 mins from hotel. You can walk to the old town near the castle and that will take you about 35 - 40 mins from hotel. Local buses are frequent, can be very busy and will cost €1.90 for a 90 minute journey anywhere with any changes, once ticket is activated on the machine in bus (recommended or you risk on the spot fine). Tickets are available at hotel or kiosk at bus terminus/tobacconists.
So to sum up, the Hotel was perfect, any problem was easily resolved. The staff are just great and because of this it is very likely we will return. The island even though it isn't massive has so much to do and see, not forgetting nearby Proceda which is like a mini Amalfi coast!
Not forgetting the beautiful Mina who was our holiday advisor and the icing on the cake, a massive thank you to her.
Thank you Continental Mare and hope to see you again.
