Lacco Ameno is an enchanting place, and the centrally located, but peacefully quiet Hotel Campo is a great place to stay. Have spent several weeks there over the past two summers. Hotel Campo is run by a young brother & sister team who make you feel like part of the "family" and are at any time of help, if needed. The homecooked dinner is simple and good and the breakfast on the terrace with a warm cornetto and a great capuccino is a wonderful way to start the day before heading off to the thermal baths at Negombo.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel at the beginning of our Italy trip. It was a wonderful place to relax and rest up from the long trip from the western United States.

The best thing about the hotel are the staff, Claudia and Nicola. They were very friendly, responsive, and helpful. They gave us suggestions of things to do and good instructions on how to get there. They helped us solve problems with our battery chargers. They went the extra mile to ensure our stay was pleasant.

The 3-course dinners were very good and gave us a chance to mingle with the other guests. Claudia and Nicola put together a sailboat trip around the island for any interested guests, and it was a superb experience.

We had a room with a balcony. The room was quiet and cool with ample closet space and one of the more spacious bathrooms (including a large shower/tub for my tall husband) we encountered.

We traveled in Italy for 3 weeks and this was one of the best values and most enjoyable accommodations we encountered. We recommend it without hesitation.

We arrived at Hotel Villa Campo at about 11:30p.m. but Nicola, the owner, was there to meet us and show us our room. The room had a good shower, closet space, and was good value for what we paid.

We had half board, although this had to be breakfast and dinner. Whilst the breakfast was repetitive, it was again not bad for what we paid. The dinner, however, was often very nice. My girlfriend is vegetarian and Nicola and Claudia would ask her what she would like instead of the meat dishes each morning in advance.

The best part about Villa Campo was Nicola and Claudia. The owners took very good care of us, and suggested places to go, told us how to get there. On our last night Nicola recommended us a restaurant of someone he knew, and we were very well taken care of at a very reasonable rate. This personal touch is something you just can't get at the normal hotels and is one of the attractions of such a place as Villa Campo.

Without wishing to go on about Nicola and Claudia, they also set up a private rental of a sailboat to go around the island. The boat owner was a friend of Claudia's, and she came on the trip also. You should definitely ask about this possibility if you go here as the food was excellent on board.

All in all, Hotel Villa Campo was far more than a way of saving money for the neighbouring thermal baths and for Italian wine. It made the whole trip far more intimate, relaxing, and fun. Go to Villa Campo and you shouldn't regret it!

Alex.

We were booked to spend 2 nights at Villa Campo in September and ended up checking out after the first night. We are both reasonably well travelled and are not spoiled in terms of accommodation (we backpacked around Vietnam earlier this year), so we knew what to expect from a budget hotel. However the attitude of staff/owners made it impossible to stay there. The room we were given was on the ground floor next to the patio, which was ok, as we knew they were fully booked however the claims of the owner that it was a really quiet location was an insult to our intelligence - people were having dinner within 3 metres from our room! We were the only young, non Italian couple there and we felt really singled out - basically we didn't get the same breakfast as other guests, no pastries, no bread and no cheese, despite of politely asking several times.
Otherwise, the hotel itself is basic and quite old, the room was reasonably clean and the location was good in terms of a distance to the beach and near-by shops. It's just the people who run it really spoil the impression.
We ended up paying a bit more for our second night, but ultimately it was worth it.

We stayed at the Villa Campo for 1 week over feragusto. What a wonderful week!

Claudia answered all of our questions promptly and efficiently before our stay which made us feel at ease before we even go to there.

The room was very simple but extremely clean, and our requests were met for a room with a shower!

We opted for the half board option at this B&B and were not disappointed. We were treated to freshly baked cornetti every morning and a home cooked meal in the evening. I’m lactose intolerant and the staff were extremely helpful in accommodating this!

The B&B is ideally located a few minutes from the beach, restaurants and shops. There is also a supermarket next door too.

The B&B is run by Claudia and her brother and they were both really great in telling us what local activities were happing each night- which made our trip extra special as we wouldn’t have known otherwise and would have missed out on ‘cinema under the stars’!!

I’ll definitely be returning in the near future…possibly next feragusto!!!

  • Liked — Location - walking distance from everything, beach, shops, restaurants...
  • Disliked — Very simple - but it was very affordable!
  • Tips/Secrets — Go half board - its worth the extra money!!
