We had dinner with friends last night at Ristorante Vogric, which is situated in the center of the Collio wine region in San Floriano del Collio. Vogric is a very quaint restaurant that also has rooms to rent. Nicely decorated with lots of wood and a country feeling, Vogric presents an inviting atmosphere for spending a few hours dining with friends.
Vogric's menu lists several antipasto dishes featuring local prosciutto, salami and cheeses. We skipped the antipasto course and started with a "tris" selection of pastas: green tagliatelle with a duck and radicchio sauce; a large gnoccho filled with marmalade and a fat noodle pasta, topped with a beef goulash sauce. All three pasta dishes were very good.
Vogric feature a variety of grilled meats for the main course. We chose a mixed grill which included a pork fillet, three cevapcci (a spicy minced meat sausage) and grilled chicken. The pork and the cevapcci were tasty; however, I found the chicken to be dry and over cooked. I had a side dish of marinated cooked turnips that was awful, while the others enjoyed their battered and fried potato gnocchi.
Service was excellent and very friendly. Prices were very reasonable. Our meal for four people, plus a liter of house wine, totaled a little over 100 euro. There were only two other tables of diners on this Saturday evening. Our friends mentioned since Italy's laws on driving under the influence of alcohol have become very strict, people are going out less and less. My suggestion, come with a designated driver because some of the best wines in Italy come from the Collio region.
