“Good value rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2013

Well located near train station makes this a very good base for exploring Cinque Terre. Rooms are large and clean with a balcony. Situated in quiet area. Restaurants only a few minutes walk away. Reasonable value for money.

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 December 2009

Arrived at dusk after a tiring day on the Cinque Terre. The building turned out to be a building site covered in scaffolding. A builder directed us to the entrance which was unlit. Knocked on a door marked Il Veliero - no answer. Went upstairs and rang the bell of another door marked Il Veliero - no answer. Went back to the builder and shrugged my shoulders. The builder investigated. Upon return he pointed to a small sign with a telephone number (meanwhile his mate on the roof was trying to lower a bucketful of rubble onto my head). I called this and a lady said "Si" and included my name in a sentence of italian. A light came on and an elderly couple were seen looking very suspiciously at the top of the stairs. After some gesturing we were eventually led to the room which was pretty basic but the bathroom was okay. The heating came on after a few minutes. I enquired about breakfast. "No breakfast" was the reply (the only English I heard from the old couple). This turned out to be incorrect and the old lady showed us a business card for a cafe in the town. We stumbled across this place in the evening near the seafront - about 10 minutes from the "B&B". The next morning we rang the old couple's doorbell to check out. No reply. Our passports had been taken so we couldn't just leave so what to do... Called the number again - a few words of italian then the line went dead. Oh dear. Then footsteps from the floor above. A younger lady greeted us and led us to what must have been her office where we saw our passports. Relief. 70 euro lighter we left only to see the old lady returning from the market. Our breakfast turned out to be a croissant and cappuccino - hardly worth the walk. At least the sun was shining.
