“a special way to visit the 5 lands”
Reviewed 8 November 2013

We stayed here in September 2013 I had not been to the Cinque Terra in 30 years and boy has it been discovered by the masses. The scenery is still breathtaking but even in late September it is quite popular with tourists. June to August it must be a mad house even on the steep hiking trails. On our hike we never walked more than 10 minutes before meeting another party. Its a good crowd like most walkers but just too many of them for my taste. The first hint of its popularity came when we had trouble booking close to the water. We were reluctant to stay in the hills where L'Antico Borgo is located in the village of Dosso. Thank goodness we did stay here as it was up above the maddening crowd. It is also just off the AutoStrada so you can avoid all of the one lane traffic that snarls traffic in Levanto. The inn is pretty and has wonderful views. Big rooms that are clean and well appointed are a highlight. Clean? I mean to say very clean to the standard of Austria or Switzerland. The staff is a delight. They are quiet and unobtrusive yet they anticipate your needs and desires and are prompt and mindful of their duties. We really appreciated their service ethic midway through our 4 week traverse of Southern Europe. Looking back I realize that L'Antico gave one of the great service experiences of our trip. For dinner take their recommendation and visit the small restaurant in the neighboring village just down the hill. Its a 20 minute walk but drive at night. It is a modest place that was mostly locals when we were there. It is the only restaurant in the immediate area. Their English is modest but take time and follow their recommendations. Certainly eat the 4 course offering because the best dishes come at the end. Our vegetarians had plenty of choice. The salads were big and fresh and the pasta and meat was cooked expertly. Wine comes from one barrel but it is good! We met a German hiker who owns a place across the valley and he won't eat anywhere else in the Cinque Terra. Back to the Inn. The parking lot is up a steep hill 100 yards from the Inn. Don't be fooled, you can't drive down the paved drive unless you have tank treads. The staff can help move bags but we just schleped them down and it was fine. There are 10 steps to navigate before the Inn's front entrance too. The wifi in the lobby is great. Some rooms get better reception than others. If wifi is critical, ask the staff for the best room, close to the lobby no doubt. Breakfast on the veranda is wonderful with a busy but attentive and dedicated server. Be patient and enjoy the view.

Room Tip: We didn't have an ocean view and it was just fine. If you're not familiar with European wind...

WOW! One cannot say enough about this WONDERFUL place. Happy that we stayed just outside of Cinque Terre. The BnB was a place to restore ones tranquility after being with all the crowds in Cinque Terre. It's owner, Carlo is the consumate host. His staff is most helpful -even
making a reservation for us to eat at one of the local family restaurants in Dosso. Every breakfast was unique - and always delicious! Francesco is a terrific baker along with being a great host.
And Magna, on evening watch - was delightful. Great group of young people who run this place. We thought we found paradise when we stayed here!

The service provided is superb, we were greeted and issued with maps, timetables and a resident parking pass for use in Levanto ( extremely handy giving you free parking whilst you are out and about on trains, tracks and boats). One of the reasons we chose this place was the need to have our car close at hand, having said that you really need your own transport to stay here.
Highlights for us were the hosts, spacious room ( some have views ) , an especially clean and modern bathroom and as everyone has commented a grand breakfast.

We were looking for a B&B at the Cinque Terre area to stay for a week. We found on the net the web of this B&B located in Dosso, Comune of Levanto, the 'gate of the Cinque Terre'. From the first contact via mail with them all was right, it was so easy to agree a quite long stay. We did the journey by car from Barcelona and there was any problem to reach Dosso, but if you plan to trip by train to Levanto, and then reach Dosso, you will need a car or a taxi to arrive to this lovely place on the mountains with a beautiful view over the village of Levanto and the sea.
The rooms are spacious and the bathroom is functional. Minibar -minifridge- and safety case are available as well.
The breakfast is simply perfect, combining local specialities and a more conventional dishes.
The attention by the staff is a must. They are very kind, and help you to plan the activities of the day, if you want.
In summary, an ideal place to visit and enjoy of this beautiful part of Italy.

We stayed during 3 nights. Lovely place in a great location with beautiful view to the sea and nearby hills. Breakfast was excellent and each day we tasted something new. The hosts were very pleasant and rooms are very clean. Certainly a place to recommend.

I found this bed and breakfast through Sawday and what a wonderful find it was. I love the location in the tiny hamlet of Dosso, overlooking Levanto. We had a room for 4 people which was clean, spacious and wonderful bathroom. It also had a little fridge in the room which was a great find. Knowing it was up in the hills we had come prepared with a picnic for dinner and had the pleasure of eating this out on the terrace, perfect! The beds were comfy, the only minor comment is that a fan in the room would be nice as in August it was rather warm but otherwise, it was wonderful. Breakfast was amazing, we were truly spoilt with a selection of goodies from cured meats to cakes. Will definitely stay here again if in the area.

We stayed 1 night in this lovely place. Beautiful, comfortable, clean, well designed, amazing view, great service. Very nice breakfast, nice people.

Isolated so car is needed. It was not easy to find, but it worth it and we wanted to stay more. We will be back!
