“Strange hotel in a beach town...NOT on the beach.”
Reviewed 29 December 2010

How to describe Hotel Garden? It's strange. The setup was very odd, it appeared to be a converted apartment with several rooms inside. The walls were very thin and it was a bit inconvenient to get in and out of. They do have a cleaning staff and free internet access during front desk business hours. We did travel during the off season and I will have to say I don't recommend Levanto during the fall and winter. It's much like a deserted beach town with nothing at all to do and not much open as far as wine bars or restaurants. I would stay at the Hotel Garden again, but I highly doubt I will find myself in Levanto ever again. In peak season, I could see it as a nice place to stay and near (NOT on as advertised) near the beach. The price was okay, but the room was very small and didn't offer much as far as value. You cannot, however, leave the Cinque Terre walk off of your agenda, it is unlike anything I've ever seen.

We just left today & I could not wait to do a review! We were in Levanto VERY off season but it was lovely. We chose the Hotel Garden based on reviews here and because we also own a small B&B in another country and wanted to see how the Italians do it. We were the only guests this quiet time in December but still had wonderful service. We were asked when we would arrive and actually arrived a bit early to be met by Damiano, the owner and a lifetime resident of Levnto. . He showed us our room (503) which had a king bed, lovely bed linens and mattress, clean modern bath and a terrace overlooking the sea. We were pleased tho it was too cold to sit out. In the slow season, they do not offer breakfast but gave us recommendations fore both dinner & breakfasts. Also maps and info on the Cinque Terre. Our last day, they stored our luggage while we went sightseeing. When we returned to gather our things and ask for a cab, David said he would take us to the train station. He did and refused a tip suggesting we have a drink and think of him. So David, we are! Some reviews suggested they staff did not speak English, butr we speak NO Italian and had no problem. All the staff we met were wonderful & hospitable.

PS WIFI was included and there was English language TV. When we return to Italy, we will return to Levanto and Hotel Garden.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel where the hosts were very helpful and the breakfast was wonderful and the lady serving was delightful. We enjoyed staying in Levanto rather than one of the Cinque Terra villages but found the train travel excellent with a good timetable. The private car park worked well. The town was enjoyable and the hotel excellent value.

It was one street back from the beach in the stunning riviera town of Levanto. We found it easily- although we had to drop off all the suitcases and then drive the rental car ten minutes up the road to the private car park. But that is the only inconvenience we had. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff, who spoke very little English, but we spoke even less Italian, and they went to so much effort for us, finding restaurants, advising about trains and even contacting a winery for us on our last day so that we could visit. The rooms are basic but spotlessly clean, and have unexpected bonuses like foxtel in English in each room. We had a partial view of the beach from our room, and looked over the village park. We had an amazing few days in Levanto- and would definitely stay at Hotel Garden again. It was also relatively inexpensive for the area, certainly compared to hotels in the Cinque Terre. Loved it!

Very niv\ce hotel, good wi fi and sit down computer. Nice staff. Free parking, 10 mins walk away.
We preffered basing ourselves in Levanto as their is not a lot to do in the 5 villages except walk. Levanto is a nice seaside town withplenty of shops and resturants so was more interesting to stay in.

Train station is across the road from the free parking and few minutes to first village.

Make sure you check the train is stopping in the villages as some of them only stop at the first village then go to La Spezia. Luckily the conductor told us to get off at first village.

Large rooms and bathroom for Italy and quiet also. Can't really fault this place, maybe rooms a little dated, late 90's style but for the rate pretty good.

Hotel Garden was neat, clean, nicely decorated, reasonably priced and in a wonderful location in Levanto. The staff on the reception desk were friendly and helpful, the breakfast not the best we've ever had, but perfectly adequate. We had the roof garden room on the 5th floor, with a large terrace and a view of the bay and surrounding hills of Levanto. Perfect for that drink at the end of the day ! We had 4 nights there and we'd go back again.
