“Lots to like, but F&B needs attention”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

We had a very happy week at Verdura over the May half-term but Harry and his management team have a lot of work to do regarding the service levels in the hotel's restaurants. Whilst the food itself was fine, the service was consistently disappointing:

- Breakfast was truly hit or miss. On the first morning, our order was totally forgotten. In the middle of the week, the cooked food took so long to reach our table that it was cold and had to be returned. On our last morning the food was great but the order was duplicated so we received everything twice!

- The service in La Granita bar was horribly slow, especially towards the end of our stay. On our last two days it took almost 30 minutes on both days for some ice cream to be delivered ... and this despite a number of enquires to the waiting staff as to where the food was. There was a general sense of poor communication between the kitchen and the front of house staff.

- The maître d' in Liola was totally uncooperative when we tried to increase a table reservation from 2 to 5 people on our last night. Despite his assertions that the restaurant was full, it quite clearly wasn't! His flustered approach was bordering on rude and again he seemed to lack the training / confidence to handle a routine situation in the appropriate way.

Happily, these problems can be solved with some management attention. As and when that happens I'm sure that reviewers will once again focus on the positives as there is a huge amount to like. The rooms are lovely, the golf courses are great (we particularly enjoyed the short par-3 course which was great for families and maintained to a very high standard) and the general setting and resort 'feel' was welcoming and relaxing.

Room Tip: The classic suites have a lovely terrace with uninterrupted views and lots of space for a room-servi...

My wife and I went with two friends in early May-a couple of weeks too early for swimming in the sea or outdoor pool (which had just been filled the day before we left).

The golf however was great, as was the sparkling sunshine weather, I suspect playing in July would be seriously hot work. A real treat in this season were the excellent spa facilities, indoor pool and solarium. I have to say that the resort was nowhere near at capacity, so loads of space on the two golf courses, but hats off to the standards of service

The staff were impeccable, especially the breakfast service and front desk, and the dinners (unfortunately limited to one restaurant in the pre-seson. which could get stale after a week) was fine also- we were on an "endless privileges " plan including golf, lunch and dinner.

A particular;y favorable mention for the lunch bar buffet and friendly service at the golf clubhouse (open to all)

If I had to quibble-and this loses Verdura the fiftth star in my book-is that when paying this kind of money (serious money) one expects an "endless privileges " package to include a golf cart for two free for one round, as in most upscale resorts. It was plain cheap for Verdura to charge at all for this, with racks of empty carts waiting idcel, and simply out of line to charge a whole 50 euro a round for it. Golf equivalent of charging for internet access in the modern world.. Lose it, Rocco!

Room arrangements and overall holiday experience excellent, I would go back in a thrice if they got real with their packages.

Oh and.. dont even think of coming in via BA to Catania, too far, shame.. Easyjet via Palermo was OK.

We did a tour of Sicily, and from Palermo we went to the Agrigento area, we picked Verdura resort to stay and that was a good decision . The rooms were clean, big and outstanding ocean views. The first night we had dinner the service was VERY slow, but the barman who so this was concerned and offered us a free drink. Good quality food. The breakfast buffet was vast as their premises. You can enjoy a walk by the sea, or go to the olive orchard. They offer a wide variety thing to do unfourtanely we are not able to enjoy all them. Maybe you can.

Room Tip: Any room will do.

The hotel is a resort from start to finish and a vast, but luxurious one at that.

We stayed two nights and wish we could have stayed for much longer. Verdura Golf and Spa resort is branded with Leading Hotels of the World (LHW) and I am familiar with their scrutinous, in depth 800 point check list and glad to say Verdura Golf and Spa resort lived up to this list in some areas and in some areas not…which is always to be expected! I will start by saying I would recommend and will return.

Clean architecture lines sunken into sandy brown colours gives way to the resort being very easy on the eye; the landscape is crisp, well groomed, neat, and very refined. Very much in keeping with surrounding rolling hills. Although we did not play golf it looked like a golfers paradise.

If you looking for a traditional Italian style hotel this is not for you. But if you're looking for a 5 star luxury experience then look no further. I am not used to staying in such colossal hotels (200+ rooms which was built in 2009) and this is a massive hotel catering to bus groups and golf coaches but it wasn't too overwhelming, in fact it was the opposite, it felt high-class and lavish.
Check in was carried out by Stefanie who spoke German and English, and was in the process of learning Italian (good luck). Stephanie was tremendously professional. She greeted us at the door and our car and luggage where whisked away. It was a little strange that no welcome drink was offered as seems to be the trend with LHW Hotels now or being personally taken to the room by a member of staff.

We had a junior suite with a spectacular panoramic view of the ocean and a substantial terrace. The room was very well appointed but missing tea and coffee making facilities. The mini bar was basic and the complementary 24hour wifi very weak but the purchased wifi very strong. I did not like the TV interface but the TV Channels on offer where great! The evening turn down service came excessively early (7pm) but was a nice touch. What really stood out was the toiletries, comfy bed, great flip flops (that actually fit) and a clean finish to the room…it was open and fresh. The spa menu was in the room and was full of fresh ideas for treatments! I had a treatment which was perfect.

Continuing with the spa and wellness facilities the women at the reception gave me a very warm welcome and a slow paced, flawless explanation of all the amenities; daily/weekly programmes (weekly programmes included free tennis lessons for kids, stretching, Cinema, Aqua fitness, Kayak introduction and limoncello cooking class). The gym amenities where amazing and I counted 30+ machines opened from 8 am to 8:30pm. Complementary bikes where fun and a local running map (4.4km) was a great idea! It gives you a true sense of space and openness. I truly valued the outdoor and indoor pools even through it wasn’t just quite warm yet. The public toilets where immaculate. The beach was tranquil but remember it is a partial stone and sand beach so bring some strong flip flops for going into the water!!! Toilet conveniences where at the beach.

Two aspects of the service that really stood out where the staff at breakfast and the pool/beach staff. Breakfast was superb. Pancakes, omelettes, teas, fresh breads etc lovely finishing touches with nuts and fruits, fresh pasties etc. Breakfast was attended to by diligent, eager and inelegant staff (I believe many of the staff have graduate degrees but lacking work) who where a pleasure to talk too. Pool and beach gentlemen very friendly and helpful with towels and drinks. I asked if we could order some food to the beach and while the beach restaurant was not opened our request was kindly met. I really appreciate service like this! Service at the brasserie could do with a little touch here and there.

I went when it was low season but I would like to see how they keep the 5 stars when in peak high season with 90-100%occupancy. I noticed plans for extension with a massive resort to the right hand side of the current hotel with rooms having individual plunge pools. Very impressive and always good to see the south of Italy getting developed slowly but surely.

Verdura Golf and Spa Resort is located at most 15 minutes drive to Sciacca of which is a great coastal City to take in some sights and eat some delicious food!

Room Tip: The bigger the room the better!

Verdura is the perfect location for a romantic holiday, for family holiday, for sport and to spend time with your friends.
There is nothing you cannot do. 3 restaurants, bar tennis , golf , spa, space nature air. Moreover, Sicily is amazing and the villages around the resort are wonderful. You can find the best oranges of the Mediterranean, art, and traditions.
I would strongly recommend to visit Verdura and I look forwards going back

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea VIEW! No stress

My wife and I took my 2 year old daughter to Verdura in October 12. We enjoyed it so much we are due to return in in June 2014.
The hotel is wonderful. It is set in extensive grounds. The hotel has bikes on site and my daughter loved being cycled around, exploring the extensive grounds.
We booked with Scott Dunn and took full advantage of their child care.
There was an indoor heated pool which we could use in the morning with my daughter. For a child of that age having a warm pool meant we could play in the water for longer.
Oh and we took a cooker class - that was fun.
Can't wait.

Room Tip: Having a small child, we asked for a rooms closs the centre and booked both a Junior Suite and Delux...

Just 3 nights at this beautiful resort was enough to relax and rejuvenate. If you can though, stay a bit longer and don't miss the a couple of days at the Spa. The food is sublime, with very tasty local produce. I tried amazing forest strawberries. I would recommend too a visit to Planeta, a local vineyard. I loved the bikes at the resort, great fun and handy. It was wonderful to see the Swallows, and an evening drink watching the sun set topped it all off nicely.
