By the time we approached the Villa Romana we were starving and hoping for something simple, such as a panino or arancino. This was the first place we saw after taking the turnoff so we went in and were a bit alarmed to see a tour bus disgorging a group of tourists. They didn't have the simple ready-made food we were after but we ended up staying to eat in the restaurant, which in Sicily is usually quite safe to do as things are generally cheap. It was quite pleasant. Food was tasty and the service efficient considering that they had a large group of tourists at the same time. The woman running the bar/reception, possibly the wife of the owner, was very pleasant and helpful. My partner had an antipasto - a plate of salume, cheese etc and a bruschetta - while I had a plate of pasta alla norma. This was accompanied by 500 ml of white wine, and followed by coffees and some almond biscuits. All in all a very satisfactory and pleasant lunch apart from the bill, which turned out to be a heart-stopping 30 euro. (My partner lives in Sicily and I have spent months there and this is very expensive for what we had.) Obviously the price reflects the location and the lack of competition but we were still a bit taken aback. If it weren't for that I would have rated it a 'very good', even though we didn't eat enough from the menu to judge the overall quality.
