Albergo del Chianti
Ranked #6 of 19 Hotels in Greve in Chianti
Reviewed 26 June 2011

We stayed at this mid-sized hotel for 4 nights in June 2011, but have stayed many times before and will hopefully stay many times in the future. The location is so good to access so many lovely places in Tuscany and the family that own and run the hotel are extremely helpful to guests in all respects, from advice on where to visit to booking restaurants. The breakfasts set you up for the day and the pool and garden are just what is needed after a hot day in the Tuscan sunshine. While the hotel has no parking of it's own, you can drop off and pick up in the square just by the door and there is a FREE car park just 2 minutes walk away. Great value and a pleasure to stay there.

Room Tip: Romm 101 is like an apartment, very spacious

Very dated hotel with very dated fixtures and fittings. All seems very much out of place in the lovely Tuscan hills. Not ideally situated either as doom days you can't get the car to the hotel to drop off your luggage! Parking is also a fair bit away. The worst of the stay was at the end when we came to pay and we were informed that they had no card machine! No mention of this at check in though!

Breakfast was shocking with very little choice and a complete lack of fresh fruit.

You'd do well to avoid this hotel.

We are very surprised at the comment, the hotel is not new but neither reduced pain as you would have us believe, our breakfast consists of all sweet and savory foods, cereals, etc..
I believe that all his problems and his desire to discredit our hotel due to the fact that it was not possible to pay by credit card, but sometimes it happens in smaller countries.
I urge you to correct the notes from our hotel, defamatory, otherwise you will be contacted by our lawyer.
comments on the internet are a serious matter for our work, you can not afford to play and hurt our work.
I'm sorry but your comment does not reflect reality, as everyone can see from the other comments on trip advisor so I will fight with all our strength and all the tools that the law provides.

We stayed one Saturday night in room 108 and were pleasantly surprised. It is on the 2nd floor and has a great view of the square from the room. The room is a generous size and very clean, quiet, and the queen size bed is one piece (not 2 singles) and very comfortable. Bathroom amenities were also generous, including cotton buds! There is a bar fridge; great for keeping wine for the evening. Plenty of public free parking is also available 2 mins walk from the square.
The man running the place is so friendly and laid back. He obviously enjoys his work and genuinely cares about his guests. Breakfast is buffet and was the best we had during our 2 weeks in Italy; eggs, cereal, toast, juice, coffee, croissants and pastries, fruit, yoghurt.. and is served in their outdoor dining setting in a beautiful garden terrace. There is a great local market in the square on Saturdays. I enjoyed sampling the local produce from here. This was one of the best hotels of our trip and I wouldn't hesitate to return again.

When we arrived in Greve, we had no reservation and found this hotel in the corner of the square. English is spoken and very helpful. There is no parking in the square but there is free parking lot up the road. Easy walk. There is a wonderful wood fire pizza place across the street.
when you first walk in this hotel you would think that this hotel has a full service bar and restaurant, but this area is only used for parties. What a let down. The out side is a gem. A medium pool is hidden among lemon trees and you would think you were in your on little villa on a hot day. Unfortunately we did not get to use this area, but would have if had more time . Breakfast is very good, more than enough choices for one to make.
The only issue we found with hotel was the rooms needed some serious updates. The hair dryer is like the back end of a vacuum hose. The shower leaked all over the place The bathrooms are outdated along with the bedroom. It was very warm in early May and the AC per Italian law can not be turned on until May 10. All you can do is open the windows and let in the cool air in at night. Beware the noise level is high in the square.
There is a bread store next to the hotel and the smells from that little store were intoxicating in early morning hours, with our windows open.

My husband and I spent four nights in Greve and stayed in this small hotel just by the ancient square. OK, there were some minor drawbacks; you cannot park outside the hotel, but the free parkinglot is quite close, just a few hundred meters away (but be aware, they want to clean this area every other Monday morning, and you will get a ticket if you haven't moved your car). Also, the bathroom is quite small, but clean and adequate. This goes for the room too.

The staff is very friendly and helpful! And they speak English, something which is not common in Italy, not in our experience anyway. They helped us with making arrangements, with information, with telephone calls, always very cheerful.

The breakfast is also very good - plenty of bread, croissants, homemade cake, eggs, juice, yoghurt, cereals, different kinds of coffee, ham, salami etc.

Greve is a convenient place to stay if you want to explore Tuscany - it's easy to take to bus to Florence, it's not very far to go to Sienna, San Gimignano etc.

The hotel may not be very elegant, but it's nice, clean and friendly - good value for the money!

Me and my wife stayed at the Albergo del Chianti for five days. The hotel is in a central position adjacent to the main square and very close to restaurants and grocery stores. Greve in Chianti is a nice town in the heart of the Chianti region, between the towns of Siena and Florence, and it is a good base for all your trips. The hotel owners were very helping and nice and the breakfast was good. We spent a total of 370 euros (double room) but consider this was low season; nonetheless we've been lucky and the climate was very pleasant. Room soundproofing could be improved (you can hear noise from adjacent rooms) but we slept well at night since the town is very quite after 11 pm; all rooms feature air conditioning and there is a nice swimming pool.

Foolish on our part, admittedly, and lessons learned, but don't make our mistake and take a young child/children to stay here. The hotel offerred us a cot but they really shouldn't have as the hotel is filled with hard floors and sharp corners, which you really wouldn't want your child to fall onto. We should have known: but don't make our mistake! That said, had we been without children I think it would have been perfect. The hotel is very pleasant and ideally-located and, when we did have a moment for a glass of wine, it was very good. We checked out a day early due to our concerns for our child and the brothers were very good in that they did not charge us for the final day, which would have been perfectly reasonable. I've read some good reviews of the breakfast, which is surprising as I would consider that the only real negative: there is nothing cooked (not unusual for the continent) and the croissants were stale. I would recommend it overall though.
