we stayed in the newer part of the hotel, the rooms there have AC which is clearly advised when travelling during the hot summer months. The castello is on a hill top which results in amazing views, they also have an infinity pool from which you can take in the countryside as well. Rooms are good, clean with a good size. Breakfast was italian standard. Only a short drive from greve. good location for wine tours in the chianti region

Our favorite memories are of Nadia and Inez at the winery shoppe! Amazing and friendly and inviting and great people! They made our Tuscany experience the best! Love the castle and rooms were so comfortable and inviting and the views were incredible ! We'll be back and will tell all our friends to stop first and visit Nadia and Inez then relax and enjoy the ambiance and history
of the castle ! Thank you for making our trip perfect! Love to all! The best place in all of Tuscany!

The castle is on top of a hill with stunning views of the Chianti countryside yet only 5 minutes drive from Greve with its charming piazza and amazing deli.
The rooms we had were separate from the main house and had a shared lounge/dining table/fridge/kettle. This worked really well for an evening meal in - having previously visited the fabulous delis and bakery in Greve.
The castle wine tour is worthwhile and the food to follow was very good.
The breakfasts are typical- cheeses, hams, cold eggs, cakes, breads, cereals, yoghurt and fresh fruit.
The rooms were very well furnished and spacious with excellent bathrooms

Don´t expect the usual. First because this is a castle and then because it is Tuscany! The rooms are named after local artists - they are large and well furnished in vintage style. Very clean and comfortable. Very good breakfast served in one of the castle´s ballroom. The great attraction tough is the great style Chef! For a fixed price - Euro 50, you take a toor to the wine cellars and enjoy a 4 course meal. Unforgetable! The night we had dinner there (September 16th, 13) the waiter was also playing the piano and singing. Excellent location in Greve in Chianti. The only point is that wifi Works only in the reception area. You need to seat outside for connection. Excellent staff supporting any request. We loved it.

Room Tip: The rooms are spread in the property, as it is a castle building there are various entrances to the...

The establishment is wonderful - the room very WIDELY however, so make sure to check them out in advance and pre-arrange the better ones. Our friends travelled with us - I did the booking - they got a large large suite and we got a much smaller one. All were very clean and wonderful.

The experience here is the castle itself, the vineyard and the FOOD (OK the infinity pool is amazing for sure)

We will be going back in 2 years for our 20 year vow renewal.

Room Tip: Remember to check the rooms on line and prearrange the nicer ones. (They are all great but some much...

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights, Sept 4-8, 2013. They castle is stunning, the views beautiful and the pool awesome; however, our room and experience with the staff, not so good. We were in the new building. The air conditioner worked very poorly. We would just get the room somewhat cool, and the cleaning staff would come in, open the door and windows, turn off the air conditioner and leave without turning it back on so any progress we made cooling the room down, was gone. Also, by leaving the door open, including the outside door to the main lobby area, they let the Geico's or small lizards in the area and we had 3 in our room!!!

The staff at the front desk were also not friendly at all. If you approached them for booking a driver, or making a reservation or for a simple answer to your question, it felt like you were imposing on them. Very stand offish. They only offer two evening meals, one on Thursday night and one on Monday night - not convenient at all. When we booked a wine tour with their vineyard, it was a waste of money. The guide took us to the vineyard for 10 minutes to show us the grapes, rushed through the presentation, took us back to the castle to look at where the wine was stored and then took us to the dining hall where we were served lunch. She poured us 3 glasses of wine and left!!! No tasting explanation or guidance whatsoever. The other couple with us, who were staying somewhere else, were shocked at the so call wine tour and tasting.

We would definitely stay in Greve again, but not at Vichiomaggio.

We have enjoyed the outstanding experience of staying at Castello Vicchiomaggio over almost eighteen years of travel to Italy. This September was our seventh stay in this wonderful, amazing location and we were overwhelmed yet again with the beauty and charm of the ancient castle and situation.Truly a jewel in Tuscany's crown. The warmth of the welcome from the wonderful Matta family, who take such pride in making their guests feel valued, was so much appreciated;we felt like old friends returning to a much-loved destination. Our six previous stays were spent in the classic rooms/suites of the castle and we loved this experience very much indeed but this stay was in a Suite Superior in the quiet, peaceful La Canonica building situated just a stroll across from the main castle. We were delighted with our suite;so clean and fully airconditioned for the amazing heat of early September.Furnished tastefully and enjoying views through the olive groves and vineyards of the Matta estate to the rolling Tuscan countryside beyond. In many ways we would like to keep this ,"jewel" ,our own special secret but we feel we must share our experience of the superb Castello and shout our praise aloud.Yes! It is not an hotel, it is much, much more! It is a family home,a working vineyard,an ancient but truly comfortable, amazing place to stay where one feels welcome and valued as a guest in an historic castle with rooms, suites or apartment. There really is so much choice. The Monday evening banquet is a MUST! Federica Matta guided us through the cellar tour in a delightful.informative way and the food served at the banquet was superb accompanied by the outstanding wines produced here. Breakfast is lovely and the Extra Virgin Olive Oil evening experienced in the courtyard under the stars was simply stunning.Yes! We need to share Vicchiomaggio ...but Shhh!...don' tell everyone.

Room Tip: With such a wide choice of rooms/suites from which to choose it is difficult to advise but we LOVED...
