“Everything but the room.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2012

Just got back from a 4 night stay in this hotel. We arrived early, so could not check into our room which is understandable. We were allowed to leave our case in the office behind reception. After being told by the receptionist that the room would be ready in 1 hour, we left for a stroll down the main strip and a drink or two. After an hour and a half we returned (12 noon) to be told that it still wasn't ready, but would be by 14:00. We went out again, returned at 14:30 to be told it was ready apart from pillowcases being put on. We went up and unpacked and had a nap. (We had begun travelling at 03:00 that morning.) The pillowcases eventually arrived at 18:00.

The room (708) was small, dated and had the creakiest bed known to man. The bathroom was small but nice. What saved it was the balcony with the spectacular sea view. The lifts were quite frustrating - very small and irregular.

We stayed on a B&B basis. For me, the hot breakfast was great, but my companion is veggie so ended up with beans on toast each morning. It seemed like we were the only people lacking an all inclusive armband so were paying for our drinks. The beer was lovely and good value, but they did not serve southern comfort, much to my travellers distatse. We did not spend much time in the bar because we were eating out in the evenings but on the few occasions we did go in there regardless of time of day, the same rowdy crowd always seemed to be there. The barstaff were friendly and attentive.

The pool area was small and very shaded so we did not stay out there for more than 10 minutes. All in all, I'd say -

Positives -
•room with sea view/balcony
•proximity to the amazing beach/main strip
•beer in the bar
•breakfast (for non veggies)

Negatives-
•dated rooms
•creaky beds
•room not being ready until 6pm
•pool area disappointing

Remember, this is a 3* hotel and although I wouldn't stay there again, I have returned home feeling like I got good value for my money.

We also stayed at this hotel in mid April and enjoyed everything about the place except the bed. It was like sleeping on a board. The place was spotlessly clean, the staff very pleasant and efficient, the food very tasty and HOT, which you sometimes dont get with buffet service. There were grumblers as always but all I can say is, if you want a full English and roast beef, go to Blackpool or Benidorm for your holidays! The soup was delicious, the salads always fresh and a choice of fish, meat or pasta, with vegetables and or chips ensured no one went hungry. There were many small restaurants and cafes in the area should you want to try something else and a nice stroll along the beautiful flat promenade takes you to Vilamoura and a McD's, if you are longing for fast food. There is a nice little tourist train there which tootles around that area. On the down side, I did not see any entertainment in the hotel or surrounding area so, unless you like walking, reading and sight seeing like us, perhaps Albufeira, easily reached by bus from Quarteira, would suit you better.
Free WiFi,all inclusive package, beautiful beach and promenade steps away, make this hotel a winner. We would have given it five stars had the mattress been softer and there being some entertainment other than football/music chanel on television.

Room Tip: Our room was on the third floor with a view of the building opposite and we only slept in it so cant...

We stayed at this hotel in mid April. It is a fairly small hotel and overall very good value. It is 100 m approx from the sandy beach and promenade. Five minutes walk up the road there is the bus terminus and a large Ecomarche supermarket. If you hire a car, free parking is available immediately outside the hotel.

Reception staff were very polite, friendly and efficient.

The rooms are slightly dated but clean and tidy. We stayed in room 902 that had a great sea view with balcony and got the late afternoon and evening sun. Only slight downside was the bed. Very creaky and not very comfortable.

Food was of good quality and every lunch or dinner there was a hot meat or fish dish available. In addition there was a good selection of salads and fresh fruit. Breakfast was the usual cooked selection, cereals, toast etc. The waiting staff were very good, serving drinks and clearing the tables and re setting them very quickly. You will read lots of reports about the food being bad. I even overheard people describing it as 'minging' 'disgusting' and 'muck' but strangely enough I saw them in the restaurant everyday eating multiple portions of the food. The food was good and I just think people like to moan for the sake of it. A bit like the same woman I over heard moaning the bottom of the pool was too slippy and when she dropped a glass on the lobby granite floor moaned that it wouldn't have smashed if there was carpet !!

There is free WiFi in the lobby.

We stayed All Inclusive and got a great deal , £20.50 each per night. Beer and wine were of a good standard. Only slight downside was the AI stopped at the bar at 2200 hrs. Also what was strange was the only mixers available were lemonade, cola and fizzy orange. If you wanted diet cola or tonic for example you had to pay extra.

I heard people moaning about the tall slim, dark haired barman that worked late afternoon and evenings. He wasn't the happiest of people but I don't go on holiday to be best mates with the barman. In some ways I could see why he was grumpy with people being rude to him and no please or thank you's. The last couple of days he did lighten up a bit. A plus point in the bar was that the drinks were served in glasses and beer in proper pint glasses. So much better than the plastic ones most other AI's use.

The bar also had a TV that could show live premier league football if you asked the barman to change channel.

From the hotel it is about a 30 to 40 minute walk to the up market Marina at Vilamouri. This is full of expensive motor yachts and posh shops and bars. Well worth a visit. On the way there or back its also worth popping into the Quarteira fish market to see the huge variety of fish caught that day.

Walking the other way there is a lovely golden sandy beach backed by red cliffs. You can walk for miles and it is very picturesque.

There are bars and eating places very nearby but we didn't use them so can't comment.

Overall a very good hotel and people must remember what they have paid to stay there. (Very little) There is no way they could get anything like that in the UK. I think some people just like moaning for the sake of it. Would recommend this as a good base for visiting Quarteira and the surrounding area.

stayed first week of april with my two sons. I chose this hotel for its amazing location to the beach, shops and restraunts. We were extremely unfortunate that the weather was completly terriable , cold windy and rainy. Not the place to be with two kids for a week apart from the beach Quarteria is too quiet for kids . Its perfect for a romantic quiet get away . If we had the weather on our side we d have loved it. Took a trip to zoomarina in Guia brilliant pricey though so pre buy ticket on line . Do rent a car at the airport as taxi s and public transport is too expensive . If you do decide to bus it buy the multi trip card as individual journeys are dear. They charge children same price as adults per journey . Do eat at Dallas and Bem bom there beside bus station on the main street. If you like fish the market is at the end of the promonadeeading towards vilmoura . Do visit Vilmoura its ten min walk past the fish market heading west. Enjoy your trip .

I must admit that I despair about some of the reviews
Hotel Atismar is a three star hotel, and you get what you pay for.
All inclusive drinks are available 11 hours a day, so there is no need to panic at 21:45. You just buy them before the bewitching hour. They don't mind if you have two or three drinks on the table. They serve beer wine and local spirits, so you're not going to get proprietary brands, and nor could they afford to. Tonic and Diet Coke are not included so you buy in supermarket and add to the neat drink yourself. Simples!!
We stayed on the 3rd floor in a corner room and you had a sea view from the balcony. The bedroom was basic and the en suite facilities reasonable, but clean.
There was a reasonable selection of food both a variety of hot and salads. Breakfast never reaches UK standards as bacon is streaky and sausages continental but with three meals a day and toasties available in the bar so you won't go hungry. The soup always seemed to be vegetable but tasty and hot, and the sweets edible. Entertainment sadly was only a television, but very good when Portugal were playing.
We found the staff excellent, both barmen very courteous and helpful, the catering staff kind and helpful and the manager and night porter both keen to help. If you are cheerful and friendly it rubs off on them.
A tip for travelling around the Algarve is to buy a weekly ticket at the nearby Bus Station giving unlimited travel.
A very good 3* hotel, but although we received 5* star service we didn't expect or get high quality
food and drink. The All Inclusive was excellent value, and we would return.

Room Tip: Corner and Rooms in higher floors have sea view

Just back from a five night stay at the Atismar which worked out at £20.40 per person per night. For this, we got somewhere to sleep, bathroom, and all food and drink. A brilliant deal.
We had a twin room on the second floor, so no great views, but it was clean and the bathroom was adequate, with a hot and powerful shower. The beds were very firm and tended to creak.

The food, for the money paid, was very good. Breakfast always included a couple of hot dishes, along with the usual cereals, ham, cheese, eggs and croissants. The bread and choices of rolls provided were very fresh and of good quality. Coffee was dreadful though.

Lunch and dinner included one fish and one meat dish together with a pasta option, which was usually a "leftovers" recipe, but all were edible, the fish being of better quality than the meat, although the roast chicken was delicious. Vegetable soup was an ever-present, and was good. Desserts were changed each day and were also good. The bar served toasties between meals if you missed out, and they were ok.

Those who moaned about the food in earlier reviews have clearly forgotten that you get what you pay for. This hotel serves up very good food on what must be a tight budget.

The all-inclusive drinks are ok, but were limited to half a dozen varieties of cheap local spirits, and wine, with pretty poor mixers from large bottles, invariably flat. Beer was good.

The hotel is situated in the second road back from the impressive beach, less than two minutes walk. The pool area is on the small side, and you have to be quick to beat the towel brigade who reserve loungers before breakfast. A lot of the area is in shade most of the day too.

Public areas are good with comfortable seating.

The best and the worst bits of staying here were the staff. The waitresses in the restaurant were great, always friendly and cheerful, but the barman and the shaven headed man at reception were the most unpleasant miseries I have met in the hotel trade. A disgrace.

The hotel was filling up throughout the time we were there, and the number of binge drinkers grew proportionally. There was quite a lot of noise some nights up until five a.m. I don't think it would be a very appealing venue in high season.

Overall, amazing value, but please remember what you paid, and do not expect miracles.

Room Tip: High floor facing sea is best.
