Just returned from a weeks AI break at this hotel and had a brilliant time! I would say the location is very good- on a quiet semi-rural street surrounded by orange groves with posh villas dotted about, very nice! It is ideal for a relaxing break just out of town but with the free hotel mini buses running 4 times a day you are free to go into town whenever you please. If it was in a town location it wouldn't be the same hotel!

The hotel is located about 1.5km from the beach which you can walk to in about half an hour at a slow pace! There is a Lidl supermarket about 10/ 15mins walk from the hotel in fonte santa. Turn right out of the hotel and walk straight down the road until you see it on your right. There are a couple of smallish restaurants/bars next to Lidl and also the weekly gypsy market on a wednesday opposite Lidl, which was brilliant!

To get to the beach, walk down to Lidl, turn right at the roundabout with Lidl on your right, cross over the road and after a few paces you will see a small road sign posted Almargem (which is the beach) walk straight down this road through the nature reserve until you come to the beach at the end of the track, it's a lovely walk. You can then turn right and walk down the beach into quarteira centre past a couple of beach bars including bj's oceanside which was lovely and had live music.

Quarteira and villamoura both had some lovely restaurants. We paid about 10euros per main meal in a proper restuarant but you could also eat sandwiches and hot dogs etc in the smaller snack bars for about 3 euros (in quarteira). Villamoura was lovely and you could sit drinking sagria on one of the deck bars listening to chill out music ( 1 litre of sangria between 9 and 12 euros). There were also a lot of special deals in villamoura for food, ie panini, glass of wine and soup for 7 euros which were very good. Not sure if this is the case all the time or just because it was out of season but there are a lot restuarants in the marina to choose from.

You can also catch the bus to albufeira from the bus station in quarteira. It is about 40mins away. It is about 9 euros return per person or about 20 euros in a taxi one way so might be better value getting a taxi if there are 4 of you. Well worth a visit and slightly more choice on menus than the other 2 places. It was 7 euros for mackerel, chips and salad over looking the beach which was really tasty.

The AI drinks at the hotel were very good and included cocktails, sangria, local versions of baileys, sambuca, martini, plus all the usual ones. The beer was proper sizes in proper glasses!

The breakfasts were great as others have mentioned, luch was limited as there were only a handful of people on AI, there was no point putting on a big spread. However you were able to order a veggie pizza or omlette as there was no main veggie option just one meat and one fish option plus salad and soup.

As there were alot more guests having evening meals there was a lot more choice, always 2 meat options chicken kebabs, spag bol, chops etc, and always 2 fish options- tuna steak, slamon, fish pie etc. + chips, rice, potatoes and boiled veg. The salad bar and soup were nice and the there was a selection of cold bits and pieces for starters including ham, cheese and little pastys.

Dessert was a selection of cakes, fruit and sometimes mousse which was very nice. Fussy eaters may struggle a bit as the meat/ fish without a sauce was sometimes dried up, but if you eat most things and are happy to eat the most appetizing things on offer you will be fine!

Veggie options didn't exist but I believe they have a veggie menu where you can place your order before you go to dinner. ( there was no veggie options in most restaurants either apart from cheese toasties, plain salad or soup)

There was entertainment on 3 nights out of 7, which was good and the usual big screen with football in the bar most other nights. The hotel is small so you get to know the other guests and we found it a very friendly likeable place.

All in all a great friendly hotel- lovely grounds, great helpful staff and brilliant value for money when all taken into account, would definately stay again!

My wife and I arrived home last night after a splendid week at the Pinhal Do Sol. The staff were warm and welcoming and the service throughout was excellent. All staff members went the extra mile to ensure guests were really looked after well. We had a Superior room which was well furnished and spacious, with an excellent bathroom and (delight) separate WC. Also very tranquil with well-kept gardens. Breakfasts were another success...both full Continental and cooked options such as bacon and fried or scrambled egg. Sometimes tomatoes and/or sausages, even pancakes. Lots of choice at evening meals. The free minibus to the Harbour, town and beach was prompt and dependable. We had a really, really nice time and look forward to returning in the future. Incidentally, the All-Inclusive option is a fantastic bargain so go for it. Well done everyone. David and Jen, Whitley Bay

Room Tip: Ask for a Superior room as it has a fridge, tea-making kettle, iron and ironing board plus a settee...

Just back from a short break at the Pinhal Do Sol. No complaints on anything, the staff were excellent from reception to the bar. Meals were adequate, and tasty. James, the owner is a really nice guy, and drives the courtesy mini bus to quarteira and Vilamoura. The rooms were clean and tidy, the maid service was excellent.Would have no hesitation in going back as its location lends itself to a relaxing holiday.

just returned from a week here and all i can say is it was a brill week ..we went as two couples ..met some great people ,had a a great week ,food and drink was superb ,only minus was its out in the sticks but there is a free mini bus that takes you into town and brings you back but other than that we had a really ,really good week ,and the staff and boss are there at all times and more than happy to help. You may not think that on first impressions but as your holiday goes on they are very friendly and happy. Entertainment is basic and not to everyones taste but at the end of the day they do try. You get what you pay for so no complaints from us. Well done to the staff, Olga,Kristinia and Jessica thank you for a nice holiday.

Room Tip: Go for superior room if you require a fridge, iron and kettle. Well worth the difference in price as...

Vilamoura is lovely we go every couple of years.its easy to get around as my husband has a walking difficulty ,but its flat everything is reachable .
We self cater , there are some lovely posh hotels but Pinhal do sol is ok and we rent the apartment from an english guy ,it is modern an home from home well equipt.
My son books the flight for us with easy jet or ryanair ,usually very cheap then we take a private taxi transfer from the airport ,my son organises it too with a company he knows called yellow fish transfers ,they meet us and take us to Pinhal Sol i don't no the cost because darren books it but he says its cheap .
April and october are my favourite times as its nice weather but not hot . July and august are just scorching..

The major negative with this hotel is its location, the town, the beach and everything else is some distance away, its location is just in an ordinary street so there is no country side, however they have free mini buses running between various locations. Other minus points is the only English TV I could get is the Sky News, one electric socket in he room, Room itself was basic but clean, lots of storage area, the heater was a bit temperamental and noisy. Trouble with the hire car meant I arrived close to one AM, could not get a drink or anything to eat. The following day a kettle appeared in the room with some cups but no coffee, sugar or tea. Bathroom did not have a lock, and was a bit cramped.

Breakfast was good, a buffet with a lot of choices including beans, egg and bacon, coffee was excellent and so was the orange juice, The evening meal was always OK,. A starter of soup or fruit, a choice of four main meals and a choice of fries, potatoes or rice, which were set portions, you could add as much salad a s you like. Later there was tiny slices of cake, so I would take several, there was also fruit but sadly no drinks! Was told drinks were included, in fact travel agent rang me telling me that drinks would be included but at the hotel never got any free drinks

The staff were really nice and helpful, a special thank should go to the two ladies on reception whose English was perfect and were really helpful.

Considering the bargain price I paid I really can not complain.

I was going to book the same hotel in March but I made a mistake booking and so will be going to a hotel nearer the beach.
