“Wonderfully Relaxing Holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2012

The Dom Jose Beach Hotel is rated 3 star but my husband and I both agree it deserves at least one more star.
Friendly and helpful staff - Clean - Relaxed - Excellent Situation
The outdoor swimming pool is excelent and cleaned daily.
The private beach area is accessed across a traffic-free pedestrianised area.
The hotel is central and all Quarteira facilities are within walking distance.
The promenade area in front of the hotel allows for sauntering about without fear of traffic.

Room Tip: Choose a room with sea view - spectacular

Location could hardly be better; hotel is stylish and well appointed; bedrooms good size with fine views to sea; staff most helpful. The area is quite mixed - many snack bars and cheap shops, but if you look closely there are some good restaurants (eg Lendorio).
Our weather was stunning and so the wonderful beach was well used. The only downsides of the hotel were the payment required to use wi-fi - daft in this day and age and led to a number of guests seeking out free wi-fi in local bars.

This hotel was great for a couple. Rooms were a good standard, although a bit on the small side. We had a sea view room which was lovely to watch the sun going down in the evenings. We didn't need to ask staff for anything, but everyone working at the hotel were friendly. Breakfast was okay - same as most hotel breakfasts - I get bored after the 3rd day or so. The pool was nice, and we always managed to get sun beds - however we spent more time on the beach as it was nice to have a sea breeze. We liked the area - quite traditional with more locals than holiday makers around. There are some great sea food resturaunts around which were very good value for money. The bus station is right behind the hotel, so easy to get around and about if you wanted to. You can walk to Vilamoura in about 25 mins if you fancy a change. Overall a pleasent stay in a part of Portugal that we hadn't been to before. We would go back to this hotel - it takes no more than 20 mins from the airport, so would also be good for long weekends.

Room Tip: A sea view room is a must - the views / sound of the waves are well worth the extra

Just returned from a week at Hotel Dom Jose. Good quality 3 star hotel. Wouldn't agree with those who say it is more like a 4 star. Very clean and bright. Staff are very nice, but bar staff are particularly friendly. We stayed in a twin deluxe room with sea view which was most certainly the smallest room I ever stayed in in Portugal. Balcony is also very small. Would suggest a mini fridge and tea making faciliities for the room which are standart in most Portugese hotels. Air con worked well. Nice bright breakfast room. Food was nice but a little more variety would be nice. Just had one evening meal in restaurant which was nice. Happy hour from 8 -9 pm is very good although we only knew about it from other reviews. not informed of it at hotel. Swimming pool area very nice but beware if you are a non swimmer or weak swimmer. very deep i.e. 1.5 to 2.8 mtrs. Not a lot to do at night. surrounding restaurants disappointiong in comparison to other areas. Lovely clean beach. Lovely walk into Vilamoura via beach front. Quarteira needs a complete revamp. Very dull and dreary.

Very nice and clean hotel. Friendly and helpfull staff in the restaurant and reception. The cleaninig staff did their job perfectly. Great location. The main pedestrian street is very noisy in the evening hours. Otherwise everything else was excellent. The breakfast was also very good. We`ll come again. Thanks a lot.

Room Tip: Rooms with a sea view are fantastic.

This was my first time at the Dom Jose. I went with my mum for a 5 day mini break in the sun and the hotel was perfect for that. The location of the hotel is ideal if you want to nip out onto the beach for the stay with the comfort of knowing that your hotel is literally a walk away. The beach is for hotel guests only which is nice and there are plenty of beds to pick from. The pool area seemed a little cosy so we didn't venture here but plenty of beds again to pick from although this may be due to us going out of season.

The bedrooms were nice. Having only booked 3 weeks before leaving I was expecting a back yard view but surprisingly we had a beautiful sea view on the 1st floor. Some people had complained about noise but I can say the room was quiet and ours was right above the reception area. At first our TV didn't work but after a mention at reception this was fixed in no time. Bathroom was rather small and there wasn't much room to put things, but lets be honest you come on holiday to get out and about not to stay in the bathroom all day.

The hotel staff were wonderful, always helpful and pleasant. Couldn't fault them.

At night the streets outside came alive which I rather enjoyed.

If there was something to pick at it would be the food. Although lovely, there wasn't really a lot of choice for either breakfast or dinner and sometimes it was luke warm rather than piping hot. So if you are a connoisseur when it comes to food this may not be ideal.

Overall it was a lovely break and if I were to return to this area of portugal again I would stay here for a second time.

This is our second year at dom jose and we found it to be as last year, very clean, very helpful staff in the best location in quarteira. This year we met a group of people we met last year and this is there fourth time here so that should say something.I would certainly advise paying the extra for one of the sea view rooms as you get a balcony something you dont get on the back.We believe this hotel deserves more than the three stars it has.

Room Tip: Take a sea view room and enjoy the view.
