I needed a "Total Chill-Out" break, and the Dom José fulfilled this admirably. Room was "squeaky clean" (hotel had a refurb in 2011), room service staff did a great job every day. Indeed, all staff in reception, bar and restaurant were extremely strong on customer care. All with good English and many staff seemed to have good German and French too.
As guests had a mainly older profile - there was a very relaxed, quiet vibe in the hotel. Exactly what I was looking for.
The area had a good variety of restaurants - and Vilamoura is only 20 mins walk up the seafront if you want something really special (or expensive!).
Only had dinner in Dom José on one evening as I really wanted to sample local restaurants (Antonios worth a look - esp. for fresh fish). Hotel meal was very good, reasonably priced and, of course, made very pleasant by the attentive staff.
Easy to get to from Faro - I used buses, again to really get a feel for the surroundings - taxi, only 20km from Faro airport. With bus - get airport bus to Faro bus station and the local service bus out to Quarteira, where bus terminal is almost other side of road from Dom José - about 100metres.
When I need another break in a warm climate - Dom José will be top of my list. Well recommended.More
