“Top notch 3 star hotel”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

Having read previous reviews I opted to give the Dom Jose a go for our budget mini-moon, on main entrance is on a back alley which isn't great, but you will only every use this for taxi and transfers. The beach side entrance is far more pleasant.

On entering the building the reception area feels spacious, clean and modern. The desk staff spoke decent English and where very helpful.

Our room was on the 2nd floor and had a sea view (worth the extra cost!). The room was clean and of a decent size. The only big down falls where the cheap mattress and the doors aren't sealed like in some hotels so noise from the hallway seeps in, particularly annoying at night. So if you are a fussy sleeper, maybe not the place for you. Saying that my wife and I slept fine every night.

The pool area is a proper light sun trap, but is fairly small and fills up quickly. But the beach is only 10m away! The dinning area is clean and comfortable, the breakfast is decent and the drinks prices are ok.

Overall for a 3 star hotel at the right price I would recommend it

Just returned from the Dom Jose and had the best holiday ever - the hotel was spotlessly clean, lovely food & location just wonderful - the staff were helpful in all quarters - we would definitely book to go back and hope to do this in September - I cannot fault this lovely hotel in any shape - just fantastic

Room Tip: A room with a sea view is a must at this fantastic hotel

I took my grandmother here for a 5 night break and thoroughly enjoyed it the hotel caters for all ages and also has ramps if you are wheelchair bound.
Rooms are on the small side but you don't spend much time in them. The cleaners didn't make too much of an effort I asked for clean towels and didn't receive them and could see where they hadn't cleaned the room just made the beds and put the towels back on the rail. One problem we had was that we were close to the lift although it's not high season yet it could get a little noisy.
However the sea view is a must as it's nice to sit on the balcony even tho they are on the small side they're adequate for what we needed.
We only ate breakfast at the hotel which we found was very nice. There are so many small restaurants around the hotel so we visited them.
This hotel is a lovely 3* hotel better than I have stayed in and the staff were very professional and polite.

Have just returned from a 5 night stay. The weather was perfect and the location could not have been better. We booked via a website and requested twin rooms and seaview. The twin room was clean and adequate for our needs but we were told that we would have to pay 12 euro per night extra for a sea view. As the sea was so close we decided against it. The hotel is very nice and the staff could not have been more helpful - especially Svetlana. Breakfast was good but we gave the restaurant a miss after the first night as it would have been good to have had more local food. There were lovely cheap places to eat on the promenade. I would recommend asking for the 7th floor and sea view and then it would be almost perfect. The bus station is near and I also recommend a visit to Albufeira. Vilamoura is within walking distance. There is a good market near Lidl's on Wednesday and good bargains to be had.
The only complaint I have was charging for Wi-fi in this day and age - all local restaurant's and cafes offered it for free on a secure server. Would love to go back.

Room Tip: 7th floor and sea-view - worth it for the view

Anyone who feels the need to complain about this hotel was either very unlucky or would be better staying at home!
We had two rooms, one sea view and one city view. The rooms are compact, but clean, modern and comfortable, and exactly as shown in promotional photos. Having recently been refurbished the bathrooms are especially good. The sea view rooms have balconies which again are compact but great to sit and watch the world go by! We only had a shower in our sea view room, but in the city view room there was a bath which was an unexpected bonus. I'm not sure if all the city view rooms have a bath, and this might influence your choice of room.

Overall the food was good. I did hear some (generally older) people complaining, but in my opinion I thought this was unfair. When you travel abroad you can't expect exactly what you would cook at home. Generally we ate towards the end of the meal times, and although there may not always have been places set, the staff always obliged and we never felt like we were being rushed, and there was always plenty of food left. There was always soup, salad, two meat dishes, one fish, pasta and veg. Another reviewer mentioned that there were not always veg, but we did not experience this (we were there for ten days). I do however think that vegetarians might struggle. There was just one day when they ran out of vanilla ice cream but it was hardly a disaster! I do agree with the reviewer who mentioned the variety of desserts. Generally it was fresh melon or pineapple, fruit salad, and cake with frothy cream and very sweet. Often hotels serve creme caramel or rice pudding but there was none of this type of dessert, and nothing I would have considered very traditional. However, we always found more than enough to eat!

Top tips:
If you stay in the hotel go onto the rooftop crazy golf to get a good view of the local area, especially if you don't have a sea view.
There are no drink making facilities, so you may want to take a travel kettle etc.
For a quiet room ask to be at the end of the corridor so you don't get people walking past - it is laminate flooring so footsteps and wheeled cases can be a little noisy!

Overall for a three star this hotel was an excellent choice and I would recommend it.

Just got back from a weeks break in this hotel. Excellent, very clean, good quality, very well appointed , with the exception of the dinning room. it's a little like a canteen could do with some table cloths. The food was limited, the breakfast was the same everyday, but it's was OK. The evening meal was not so good. There was salad not a massive variety the mains were two meat dishes and one fish and a pasta, veg was not always available. Sweets were poor a fluffy cake and tuned fruit cocktail if you were luck ice cream if you were early enough. Having said all that you won't starve, it's sufficient.

The room was good with a Stunning view. Very nice shower room, and cleaned daily with fresh towels etc, other reviews mentioned the beds they are a little firm but you soon get use to them .

Overall I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: pay extra for the sea view floors 2 and above

Really nice Hotel, staff very good, really would have liked a Sea view, but had city view room.
Might have given 5/5 if I could have got a Sea View room. A quiet area, but close to Villamora marina, a long walk or a short cab ride.

Room Tip: Get a Sea View
