We stayed from the 28 September 2013 for 10 nights and left with very mixed feelings. The hotel is beautifully clean in all areas both inside and outside and well located especially for Vilamoura if the back gate is available (more later). The hotel overall was a very pleasant place to be in but it is such a shame that guests are forever looking for a member of staff to get served all through the day and evening. The few staff in the hotel are grossly overworked and it is a poor reflection on the owners that they do not rectify this by increasing staff levels, despite virtually all Tripadvisor reviews saying the same thing. The friendly staff have no time to talk to guests and I think this is a shame as most seem to want too but massive work pressures do not allow this. We ate three times at the hotel for dinner and although the choice of two mains every night was limiting the food was tasty. However the 'Achilles Heel' was the breakfasts, it was pretty dire, scrambled egg, sausage and beans, a few cold meats and cheese plus muesli every single day without any changes to the menu. 'The back gate', was the talking point of the hotel every day as it frustrated everyone. To get out you had to find a member of staff to press the button behind reception to open it up. To get back in you had to press the buzzer by the gate to sound in reception, if someone was there fine they opened the gate, if not you waited and waited. One evening eight people were outside the gate for over ten minutes. We eventually cracked this by phoning the hotel outside the gate from our mobile and someone would go to reception to answer the phone and then open the gate. The significance of the gate is that if you go to Vilamoura via the gate it is a ten minute stroll, otherwise it is a 35 minute walk to the front door of the hotel. Why on earth do they not put a keypad or swipe reader on the gate as the electrics are already there and it would make so many people happy. The sunbeds (uncomfortable) as mentioned by a previous reviewer are in short supply and also many are broken. Overall though we liked the place, it has an intimacy and allows guests to get to know each other (if they want to) and this was good. The negatives with this lovely hotel should be easy to fix if only the short sighted owners manned the place to acceptable staff levels an offered more varied food it would be a cracking place to stay.
