Due to mix up with on-line booking of accommodation inland on a Saturday night we headed for Canico and its vast range of hotels to find an empty room - by chance came across Vila Ventura without realising it had been so highly praised on Tripadvisor. The staff were helpful and friendly; the room very large with balcony over reception, small kitchen and generous bathroom. Good value for money. Excellent busy restaurant on the roof serving generous portions of local specialities eg skewered meat, and large help-yourself salad bar. Certainly different from most of the nearby hotels that were huge and rather impersonal.

This is the third time we have visited Madeira and so we have been to quite a lot of restaurants in Funchal and surroundings. We were looking for a special place to have dinner in Canico. Looking down at the cosy garden terrace, we stopped and stayed. This is a SUPERB place, excellent food for a very reasonable price. We came back as many evenings as we could. The atmosphere is very pleasant, everyone there is smiling, including the waiters and waitresses. The food is really TOP quality. If you like chocolate then please don't forget to order the chocolate cake for desert !!! The beef as well as the fish are of very high quality. We loved the FRESH vegetables, and the extra's
A wonderful experience......

Like a previous reviewer we did not stay here but it looked good. The restaurant here to our opinion is one of the best in Canico and very reasonable. We ate here 4 nights out of 7 and never got bored. Very attentive staff without being intrusive.

This establishment really provides value for money. The rooms are more than adequate. All staff members were very friendly and helpful - especialy Reubina. If we ever visit this beautiful island again, we will stay nowhere else.

Didn't stay here but it looked good. The restaurant here to our opinion is on of the best in Canico and so reasonable. You must have the charcole grilled skewer which is hung from a metal pole on the table. The chicken one is just delicious. Very reasonable. Chicken skewer, all the trimmings, desert and litre carafe of wine for 32 euros. Brilliant

This was a small hotel with 21 rooms. The small kitchen was functional with 2 electric rings and a fridge. There was a coffee maker and we were offered the use of a kettle on arrival. The kitchen tea towel was changed daily and there were plenty of towels in the bathroom. Many of the guests were a little older which meant that the place was quiet. There were few English visitors but the staff were fluent English speakers and very helpful and friendly. The room was serviced daily. The parking around the hotel was quite challenging at times and may be worse at busier times. Alternative parking on the upper access and entry via the restaurant entrance on that road is possible but also gets quite full.
The hotel restaurant was fairly good, well priced and better than some others we tried in the resort.
The resort is almost all purpose built with several vast hotel complexes, well served by public transport to Funchal up to midnight, but a little souless.
