“Unique Menu Items”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

We went here for Sunday brunch. The menu items were really unique, my husband had a oyster and bacon omelet and he said it was excellent. I was boring and had a veggie frittata but it was tasty. We also tried the crab mac and cheese - LOVED it! The portions are large. We sat outside on the deck and it was very nice. The staff were all friendly and very attentive. We are from out of town and can't wait to go back to try some regular menu items. Fun place for families or a date. Great job!

“Delicious Seafood”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014

We tried this restaurant based on the good reviews we had read on Tripadvisor. We were certainly glad we did. Captain Groovy's has a great daily happy hour deal on appetizers and drinks. We ordered the steamed oysters which were delicious. They also have several draft brews from which to choose with the ones available listed on a huge blackboard along with many other special offerings including dining specials for the evening. Also, the she crab soup was excellent. For dinner, my wife enjoyed their fried oysters. I was glad I ordered the Cajun Etouffee which was comprised of shrimp, scallops, crabmeat, andouille sausage, peppers and onion sauté in a cajun gravy over rice ... again, delicious. Our service was excellent ... prompt, helpful with menu suggestions, and attentive. Captain Groovy's is definitely a restaurant to which we will return on future trips to Norfolk.

“Sunday Dinner”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

We had a party of 6 and were seated almost immediately. Our server took our drink order as soon as we sat down. We ordered an appetizer and it came out in a reasonable amount of time. We had the nachos with chicken and bacon. It was enough to feed our entire table. When we ordered, I was disappointed that I could not substitute grilled shrimp for fried shrimp. We had a seafood platter that was ok. Being from south Louisiana, we are used to seasoned seafood. The boiled shrimp had more seasoning sprinkled on the outside which does not help taste because we had to peel the shrimp. We also had one person at our table who received his entrée but did not receive his side order. We asked about it several times and were told it would be out in a minute. We ended up getting it in a to-go box because it never came out. The food was ok but wouldn't make a special trip to this restaurant.

Our experience for family group was outstanding, from manager Kelly to waitress Lee, everyone was friendly and professional. The food was amazing, the plates were 4226 Granby St and everyone was happy. Thank you Captain Groovy's, you helped bring 2 families together for a great new start.

“Groovy Grub!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014 via mobile

I met a friend here for a late lunch and will definitely go back!

The service was excellent from the greeting through payment if the check. Our server was happy to answer questions and make a recommendation and bragged on the kitchen staff...a good thing.

I ordered the She Crab Soup, a salad and the Crabbie Mac...all were delicious and generous portions...is it bad that I kept wanting to eat the Crabbie Mac although I was full? Well, eat it I did...it was awesome and you have to get it when you go...and you must go...you will be pleased. My friend had the Bali Chicken and raved about it and said he would get it again when he comes back.

The parking is a bit tight, but there is some also along a side street and also across Shore Drive in a small church parking lot (after 1 PM). Don't let the parking lot dissuade you...or you'll miss out on the groovy grub!
