“Clean hotel in midst of construction”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 January 2010

The hotel was very hard to find because of all the construction in Norfolk. It seems like they have a big dig doing on. We could see the hotel but couldn't get to it. Hotel was clean and quiet. However, the parking situation in Norfolk is awful. There is absolutely no where to park. The hotel had valet parking for $19 a night which was a complete rip off. I really think if they want to attract people on the weekends, they should ease up on the parking situation.

Thank you for the positive feedback about our hotel! The "big dig" that you refer to is construction for the new Norfolk Light rail. Very messy right now, but it will be very convenient once it's complete, with the main station just a block away!

Hopefully the light rail will ease the parking situation in Norfolk-there are currently a lot more cars than there are spaces!

We have asked our front desk to advise guests of other parking options-there is a city garage just over a block away, but they charge you every time you go in and out, so unless you are leaving your car parked your entire stay, those charges will add up

I am a big fan of Courtyard/Residence Inn.. in the recent years a lot of these hotels have been renovated to such a level that they almost match Marriott's in regards to the decor/room amenities.

This is one of the oldest "looking" Courtyards I have stayed in but I was quite pleased with the value that I received. Now, I'd never been to Norfolk before but I was a bit surprised at the parking fee (I expect to pay $$$ for parking in large Metro areas... not cities of this size.) Nevertheless, the room was reasonably priced, clean, and comfortable.

There was construction taking place in the streets surrounding the hotel but not once did we have trouble getting in and out or any issues with noise. It is located in a Central location in Norfolk and I would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel... just not to anyone looking for any sort of romantic getaway.

Thanks for your great feedback!

You mentioned that this was an 'older' looking Courtyard--good news is this is changing right now. We're currently undergoing a lobby renovation, so we will soon be the New Courtyard!

I'm sorry you were unhappy with your stay here at the Courtyard. We certainly have no intent to misrepresent our hotel. We do have an alert on our website indicating that our lobby renovation will be underway through March. We do limit work to daytime hours so we don't disturb our guests.

The big advantage of our downtown location is being in walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and other attractions; the disadvantage is there is the cost of parking in and around our downtown location. Due to the size of our garage, the only on-site parking we have is valet. This was not very clear on our website, so we do appreciate your feedback--we've updated the website to make this clear, and have advised of an off-site parking facitly close by, should our guests wish to choose a self-park option during their stay.

We spent a night at this Marriott with our newborn son and found the hotel and the staff to be fantastic. The hotel had all updated amenities and very comfortable beds and super clean bath and room. The staff was very accommodating with our son and were especially helpful when we forgot an item from his diaper bag - they rushed it back to us, no questions asked and we were very thankful.

Highly recommended!

We stayed here for 1 night for a business trip in Norfolk. The hotel is clean and modern. We checked in pretty late, about 10:30pm, but the front desk staff was courteous. One staff member was more competent than the other. I think the other staff member was new or in training.

The hotel can be difficult to find, even with GPS. There is a lot of construction now, and the hotel entrance is located on a one-way street. The hotel is about 3 blocks from bars and restaurants.

The lobby had a small restaurant that serves only breakfast, buffet style, and dinner. The bar in the lobby was nice and there were 2 TVs. We had checked in so late and the hotel bar closed at 11pm, but we were able to snag 2 drinks before close to closing time.

There is one computer that is slow, but you can print out travel documents. I don't think they have an official business center.

There is a small gym on the 5th floor with 4 cardio machines, small weight area, and 1 TV. There is a small pool and small jacuzzi on the 6th floor. The pool room overlooks part of the city. Towels are provided.

My room was clean and neat. It was a bit strange though because I am used to hotel beds facing the wall when you walk in. Here the bed is around the corner and faces the window. The bed is comfortable and there is a small desk, couch, and coffee table. My room overlooked the city.

The bathroom was standard, but there was a spot in the center of the bathtub. I didn't know what this was, but it almost looked like a hole that had been patched. Shampoo, conditioner, and soap were provided. No body lotion, so if you need this, you need to bring your own. Toiletries are from Davies Gate, which was a nice touch.

We were able to eat breakfast in the morning for $8.95 plus tax. It is buffet style with hot entree items, such as grits, potatoes, eggs, French toast, sausage, bacon, and oatmeal. There is also yogurt, breads, and pastries. Juice, coffee, and water are also available.

Parking is valet only, which is $18 per night.

Overall, this is a good business hotel in a good location near downtown.

Stayed here June 23rd and had a very good time. The hotel staff members both Thursday evening and Friday morning were polite and courteous. A lot of construction was going on right across the street from our hotel, so there were a lot of detour signs around which, combined with the traffic, made looking for parking outside of the hotel seem like a lost cause (so come prepared to pay $18.00 to park). The beds were comfortable, the only thing I noticed was there was a strand of somewhere's hair in the shower before I got in....that was minor, however, considering the overall quality of my stay. I would stay there again. Excellent location - within walking distance of MacArthur Center and the NORVA.
