Went to see the Smokey the Bear exhibit and loved it! What childhood memories - plus a penny squishing machine to get a souvenir from the exhibit - just bring a quarter and a clean penny!

“Wow!”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

My husband and I were able to visit the museum on our recent trip. We loved every minute of it, especially the glass galleries. The gallery hosts were very knowledgeable and very eager to explain any piece of art to us. It was a wonderful experience being able to take our time to admire any work of art that caught our eye. We also visited the gift shop to purchase a few souvenirs to take home. This is the perfect place to spend an afternoon and it is all free!! Although I would recommend making a donation as we did before leaving.

“Third Thursday after-hours event”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

While the Chrysler Museum is an exceptional art museum and a jewel in the crown of Norfolk, this is a review of the Third Thursday after hours social event. With the re-opening of the museum, they now have a social with a local band in the main court once a month. The social is free to members and $5 to everyone else. They have a small bar serving beer, wine and soft drinks for an additional charge. On Thursday, August 21st, Logan Vath, a local acoustic guitarist, was the featured entertainer. The Third Thursday event replaces a well-attended wine tasting on the third Wednesday of each month. My wife and I decided to try it out and found only about 30 people attended. While it was a quiet evening listening to music, it lacked the energy and enthusiasm of the old wine tasting. On the plus side, the director provided a half-hour tour of several galleries and attendees could walk through all the galleries during the event. We only hope that in time this occasion will have the same public support as past wine tastings.

“The best Glass Sculpture exhibition I have ever seen!”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

While on a family visit to Virginia Beach, we visited the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk. They have a separate glass art studio where we spent an amazing three hours watching a master glass sculptor create a human torso out of a large "football" of glass. It had to be constantly reheated so it could be shaped in thirty second sessions. Then, the artist attached a head and arms he had made the previous day. Watching this artistic creation come together was an amazing experience. After lunch(not overpriced), in the museum's cafe, we went through the history of glass art from Greco-Roman times to the present which is part of the museum's permanent collection. Because we were out of time, we didn't get upstairs to see the other parts of the museum's collection, but we'll be back. If you are interested in glass art, there is no better place to visit.

“Kid Friendly”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

I hadn't been to the Chrysler Museum in over 10 years. The renovation is fantastic! Visited with my three nieces and mom. FREE! Let me say it again...it is FREE! Once inside, stop at the desk to get scavenger hunt brochure for the kids. Our three kids, ages 15, 10, and 4 were ready, clipboard in hand, to find certain art pieces. Mom couldn't walk the museum, so she sat in the lovely restaurant after visiting the gift shop. The museum has a cute kid friendly area for their own try at art and a bean bag area to take a rest. At the end of the scavenger hunt, the kids got a little prize from the museum staff. There were pencils, make your own puzzle, a post card of the museum and a couple of other goodies. Great day for everyone and can I say once again it was FREE!!
