Owner description: Over-looking the bay of Machico lies the Santo da Serra Golf Club. Its original course, built in 1937, was redesigned in 1991 by the famous golf architect Robert Trent Jones who created a spectacular 27 hole golf course in one of the most beautiful landscapes that nature may offer. The MACHICO and the DESERTAS courses are the ones usually played on the Madeira Island Open, while the SERRAS course, though slightly plain, maintains the same game level.

“Fantastic views and a very warm welcome”
Reviewed 8 September 2012 via mobile

If you are a golfer and on holiday in Maderia you must play Santo Da Serra. Very reasonable rates through your hotel or directly with the club and the most fantastic views! I have played here since 2006, probably 10 to 15 times in 5 holidays.
I walk the course for exercise but understand why others might use a buggy!
Try it off the whites for fun and see if you can make it over some of the ravines.
A special mention to all the staff who are always pleasant and only to willing to help, unfortunately my golf swing was needing a bit more than one lesson.Dara the pro did his best but 31 years of swinging the wrong way can't be fixed in half an hour.
The course is dry and parched as one would expect when there hasn't been any rain but only making the fairways links like. The greens are very well watered and the bunkers have all been recently re sanded.
Once again take your camera and enjoy, remember you are on holiday!

“Good golf course with some wonderful views”
Reviewed 4 June 2012

I have played here a number of tomes over last 8 years. Three nine hole courses allow varied 18 hole rounds. All are long and challenging butand hilly so consider a buggy if not used to hills but the walk is lovely . Club house serves good food and Pro shop expensive but helpful. Most 5 star hotels can book good rates for you and arrange mini bus transfer wthe course

We were lucky enough to be in Maderia when this tournament was on and enjoyed the free access and magnificent scenery as well as the golf itself.

“Ride it, Walk it , Play it, Santo da Serra, Go on, Give it a go.”
Reviewed 30 March 2012

Santo da Serra is every golfers dream, ride it, walk it, play it, no matter how you visit this course you cannot be but stunned by its location, Santo da Serra Golf is a sports club non-profit and as such your going to get value for money, especially the kids.

Overlooking Machico Bay, where Portuguese sailors first landed, the course and views are magnificent and with four optional tees at each hole, you have the choice of various levels of game that may either lead to a simple relaxing game or a major challenge. A true garden course with four beautiful lakes surrounded by trees for shelter from the bright sun and Atlantic breeze.

The Club of Santo da Serra Golf is 20 minutes from Funchal city center and 5 minutes from the airport and the city of Machico.
