We stayed here as part of a wedding party visiting from Australia. The rooms were basic but spacious and comfortable. The air-conditioning was the biggest downfall in the warm to hot weather as is simply could not cope. Luckily the hotel is right on the coast and so the weather generally cooled at night and, with no insects in sight, the balcony door could be left open.
The public areas were good and the restaurant served good, basic local food including a smorgasbord each night, at what we found to be typical Portuguese restaurant prices. The included breakfast was very good. The view from the restaurant of the ocean and the beach was excellent. The bar was well utilised and the drinks and prices were excellent.
Staff was very helpful at all times even coping with our Aussie accents and lack of Portuguese.
The streets outside were extremely busy with beachgoers and their cars and buses - especially in the mornings.

Room Tip: The lower floors seemed to be a little cooler but the higher floors had better views. All rooms have balconies.

The large building adjacent to the sea beside 2 miles of sandy beaches appeared somewhat fort-like.and has old fashoined decor.
There are a few shops and cafes adjacent that provide a good choice of alternate eating venues.
The reception staff had little, if any, training in engaging cheerfully with users. For example. repeated complaints about the total lack of their advertised satellite television programs were dismissed offhand and begrudgingly attended to 3 days later!
It has a very poor airconditioning system - it is easier to leave windows open than have turn it on!
The hotel restaurant however had good food and good staff!
The beach is very popular, clean and crowded, a good sign.
The hotel is unfortunately over half a mile up a peninsular from the nearest village and has no public service connections with the local towns resulting in disabled users having to resort to taxis to leave the complex.
If you wanted to lie by the pool you had to book your beds by 7.30 and only 4 chairs were available that might have been used by a handicapped had they not already been booked.
Perhaps hoteliers could start putting handicapped badges on such seats to remind pool users of the need to share?

The bed consists of two single mattresses together (when I asked to change they warned me that all double rooms were like that). I had several problems with noises in the air conditioning system - they told me that sometimes that happened because of cold air trapped in the ducts. The breakfast (the one at room) is poor and has little variety.
Not worth the price I paid.
The only positive thing is that is near the beach.

Room Tip: If you want a bed for two you have to ask a suite (all double rooms consist of two single mattresses together). Some rooms have beautiful views to the ocean.

I spended one night and loved it!
The only flaw is that room does not have a very modern decor.
It has a fantastic view, it is very well located, very clean and quiet.
The breakfast is very good! Several types of breads, cake, croissants, toasts. Several types of jams, cheeses, ham, butter, honey. They also have boiled eggs, screambled eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms. apple and peach juices, lots of teas, coffee, milk and chocolate to add. They also have a variety of cereals.
If you are on a diet you can still enjoy breakfast!
I would really would like to return!
By the way, each room (i think) has a very good balcony where you can catch some sun! :)

Ofir looked unpromising a first sight set at the end of a part one way road on a roundabout overshadowed by high rise apartments. Inside the front entrance with its black marble floor and ramps for wheelchairs and lots of lifts spaced out conveniently along the corridors it is a different matter. Food is good but it is a buffet and when freshly set out it looks superb - lots of fresh fruit etc at breakfast delicious looking desserts in thhe evening - but get there early or wait until the late replenishment because French and German tour come for one or two nights mid week and the display looks well dismembered within minutes. Rooms are spacious and the staff are courteous and very helpful. Its a long walk to Fao if you want to catch the local bus, but there is a wonderful boardwalk along the Cavados River marshes to make a more leisurely mile walk to Fao and round to Esponende. Look out for otters and various wild birds you won't see in UK

Room Tip: Disabled visitors should ask at reception if you go on a package tour or ask for a level 3 room as this leads direct to the restaurant. Rooms 204, 304 etc are next to the lobby lift
