“Avoid it.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

The place is lovely and there where a lot of people already seated so we give it a try . Worst waiters ever. Food was a long time coming, and not good at all. Worst wine we had in our 3 day stay in Porto. I would not recommend.

“Interesting!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014

This was described as the "Budweiser" of port tours to me, making it a great first place to visit for non-port aficionados. Well organized, interesting, and tasty pours at the end. They take you through the operational vaults where port ages and show an informational video on grape growing at the end, covering the differences in port wines and wine-making procedures.

However, it isn't a walk-up tour. We arrived at 2:00 p.m. and had to wait until the next open English tour at 4:00 p.m., which was just fine, as we visited another tasting room in the meantime.

“Good tour, great bar!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2014

Myself and my partner visited the Sandeman port house and had a tour as part of the 'Three Caves' package. It was 10 euros, and also included Offley and Ferreira tours. The Sandeman tour was very informative and our guide was funny, positive and knowledgeable throughout. Seeing the men at work in the port house was also very interesting. The tasting at the end (one glass of white port and one of the tawny) was delicious! We found that the Sandeman tawny was the best port we tried on our stay in Porto and bought two bottles to take home.
However, my favourite thing was the Sandeman bar just outside the port house. We kept coming back to it day after day on our stay in Porto. The port cocktails were amazing- try a white port mojito or white port with lemon sorbet in it. Sitting in the sun, drinking port and eating the little fried balls of meat or fish (1 euro each), whilst looking over the Ribeira district was heavenly. I would recommend going there on any stay in Porto.

“Guided Tour of Port Wine Cellar”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

For €5 you can't go wrong. This price is the same across all the other port wine tours. Sandeman port wine tour is around 30 minutes long and includes a tour guide providing history and port wine making information plus a 5 minute film on Sandeman Port wine and the opportunity to taste two types of port wine. All in all it's good value for money.
