Very atmospheric village set in the mountains with fabulous views down to the sea. It has an old religious shrine set in a cave, a very small bullring and lots of narrow streets. OK it's a bit commercialised now with horse & buggy rides, tourist shops & bars & restaurants galore. I've been there many times now & will probably go back again sometme.

Mijas is a small mountain town that oversees parts of the Costa del Sol specially the beach area just before Marbella called Fuengirola. The panoramic views are stunning and the town itself has those small streets with small shops, cafes....etc. You can take a trip around the town with a donkey cart. It's around 30 min from Marbella and worth the visit

This was pleasant enough, but never felt, to me, like a proper place..Lots of leather shops, obviously set up for tourists, as they were large, and didn`t look as though the locals used them, especially as the signs in these shops were written in what I thought was Japanese, and the fact that the place was full of Japanese tourists. All a bit too contrived for me, I`m afraid. The views were nice, and it had a wee bull ring, but still didn`t do it for me.

Many spanish towns have a hill town a few miles inland. Frigliana is Nerja's, and is nice enough.
Mijas is Fuengirola's, and it is a cracker.

A couple of euros gets you there from Fuengirola's bus station. At once, you are rewarded by the fantastic view to the coast. The bus stops in the town centre, which is almost traffic-free, and off you go for a great day out.

This place is undoubtedly touristy, but has some upmarket shopping for leather and ceramics. Wander around for an hour, then have lunch. Watch the dancing in the square, see the patient donkey taxis - what's not to like ?
