“a week of two halves”
Reviewed 4 October 2012

Getting to the hotel from Malaga airport via train and bus was a straightforward experience although i was soaking wet when i arrived, a storm which seemed to go on for 4 days also arrived. The hotel is 4 star though i am not sure it merits this although there is nothing actually wrong with it and certainly for the price it was very good value. Fortunately the weather did improve and things looked a lot better. The town itself is charming with many good places to eat and drink and transportation to other areas is good.

My wife and I stayed at the end of sept beginning of oct 2012. Hotel mijas (trh) was a welcome sight from the torrential rain. The rooms were comfortable, not spectacular. The restaurant served nice hot buffet style food, not mitchelin star but good quality with different themes. The pool area was very nice. Only negativity was drink was a little pricey. Some parts of the hotel were a little dated and needs a little work. But as value for money goes it was excellent. The hotel has a great location with easy access to the village and the coast. We found parking on the main road everyday so didn't need to use the hotel car park. Would defiantly stay again for a low to middle cost vacation.

I had read mixed reviews about this hotel but found it to be more than adequate and I never encountered any of the negative issues posted by other travellers.
It is a great base for exploring both Mijas and other towns/villages and the staff were always friendly, helpful and the Manager liked to crack a few jokes from time to time!
Breakfast was great with a large selection of foods you would normally find on a breakfast buffet.
The pool area (and surrounding patio areas) provide plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas and despite the hotel being rather full, it was never noisy around the pool.
The room itself was clean and tidy with plenty of storage space (if in fact its rare to have so much storage in a hotel!). We had a twin room and I would have sacrificed one of the wardrobes to allow room to push the beds apart to give a little bit more space. My only little niggle was my own fault ..... I booked a room with a balcony and got a room with a juliet balcony. There were plenty of rooms with large balconies that accommodated table/chairs and so I can only assume that I didn't read the room description properly when booking and just assumed that "room with a balcony" meant a decent sized balcony.
Mijas itself is quite small and traditional and is very "higgledy piggledy" with its narrow cobbled streets. I think there is enough to see and do and restaurants to choose from for a weeks stay, any longer than that and I think you would need to venture further out of the area.
All in all a good hotel.

Room Tip: If you want a balcony, make sure you read what type of balcony you are getting!

We had 3 nights in the hotel. The staff are very friendly, the rooms clean and adequate, but don't expect a Spanish 4* to be like a UK 4*. There was a long walk to our room which did have a sea view although not a great one through a gap in the trees. However, it's position meant that it was very quiet. A lift giving direct access to the pool area was very close. The breakfasts were OK but the coffee and orange juice lousy - both out of machines. There is no tea and coffee in the room, nor fridge facilities. Dinner is certainly a no no but there are lovely inexpensive restaurants nearby. That said, would we stay again? Yes.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room make sure it doesn't have a pool view - although it's not that bad...

This is our third visit to the Mijas Hotel and we are still in live with the hotel. Rooms are very clean and comfortable with views of the pool, cost line or entrance. Staff very helpful and friendly. You can have b&b half board and full board. However there are great restaurants in the village.
Mijas is a great place to sightsee the cost, inland places. The village is beautiful with the donkeys rides and the bullring is worth a visit.

This is a lovely base for exploring either Mijas village and immediate surrounds or the wider area by car. Everywhere in Mijas is within a 10 minute walk of the hotel as the town is quite small, but still offers a seemingly endless choice of winding streets, paths, stairs and parks to wander through. Mijas itself is not particularly well connected by public transport as it is quite small, but a very regular bus service runs from directly outside the hotel to Fuengirola on the coast, which has a good transport hub. Mijas is in a idyllic location carved into the mountains above the built up costa del sol and looks over Fuengirola (which is the polar opposite of Mijas). The hotel is well positioned to take full advantage of the views this location offers. The terrace in the hotel bar is a lovely place to relax and enjoy these views. I enjoyed sitting out there during the daytime checking mails etc as the wifi (only available in public areas) extends to the terrace. The bar is closed during the day but the terrace remains open. In many ways it was nicer than when the bar is open, as you can bring your own refreshments and not have to wait for a table on the terrace, which is often the case at night time. I only had breakfast in the restaurant, which offered a good fruit selection, but the space, although offering nice views, did not entice me to eat there in the evening. Other guests did not particularly recommend it for evening meals either. There is a huge variety of great places to eat to suit any budget or taste in Mijas so this posed no problem.

The rooms were clean and of the standard size you would expect on the continent. Irons and fridges would have been useful, but the value offered at this hotel is exceptional. The standard rooms have little balconies and the superior rooms have decent sized terraces. I stayed in both and loved the space and seclusion of the terraces overlooking the tennis courts, but the views from the standard room I moved to on the fifth floor were outstanding and were certainly worth sacrificing the outdoor space for. They were cheaper too.

The spa was handy and offered a good range of treatments but I opted for reflexology which would be more accurately advertised as a relaxing foot massage, so this money would be better spent on another treatment.

All-in-all a really lovely place to stay in a lovely town.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room facing the sea (south or east) rather than the pool though as these rooms...
