I had the most special birthday weekend in Canos de Meca - with a group of friends we rented five of Karens beautiful houses.

Each of them has its unique charm and precious attention to detail. If you like travelling, you'll appreciate all the little nods like Moroccan tiles, Mexican sheets, and white painted walls which make the houses extremely homely. We went in May when it was still was a bit chilled at night - all the houses have cosy living areas and are well catered for hanging out inside: make use of the open fireplaces or ovens to add that extra cosiness.

Apart from the natural beauty of the garden that the Casas are set in which makes its setting so unique - a big Thank You has to go the lovely staff - I had groups of my party arriving at different times and dates which all worked out perfectly.
Every request pre-arrival was answered immediately, and the lovely team even helped me to decorate the garden for my birthday party and baked a cake!
If you need any tips for restaurants, taxi phone numbers - the team knows everything in the area and can give you great advice.

What I do like most about the place is that you can stay as private as you prefer to get away from it all or check out all the funky bars down at the gorgeous beach front - just a few walking minutes away. Supermarkets and small grocery shops are close by in order to stock up and make the most of the fantastic kitchen and BBQ equipment that comes with each house.

It was my second visit and certainly not my last - all my guests vowed to have a regular reunion at Casa Karen.

Room Tip: When in a bigger group (up to five) - book Casa Karen 2 - the fireplace and roof terrace are amazing. All the little studios around (Casita del Medio, Estudio de Madrono) are cute and easily fit 2-3 people.

We've been coming to Casas Karen for several years now and can't recommend it highly enough. Each of the properties is unique, well-equipped and comfortable. It's a lovely combination of rural and seaside. The area is so beautiful and almost untouched. You can bathe on white sands, climb through tranquil pine forests or head for a local bar or restaurant to sample the fresh fish or nightlife. Every visit is different, every moment is special.

Room Tip: Try a Choza.

I had a fantastic holiday- as part of a group of friends staying in the Chosa Grande- the location is so beautiful with a mix of forest and sea-the Chosa is fairytale like- with thatched roof- porch- shutters and BBQ area. The beds were very comfortable- with soft sheets- the best night sleep i have had for a long time. Inside it is spacious and charmingly decorated- with a relaxed but cosy and considered atmosphere.
There are a few beaches very near- in walking distance- with fine sand and not inundated with tourists. The near by bars are a great treat for low-key relaxing drinks with a bohemian vibe and the local shops are friendly and interesting.
The whole area is very idyllic and was a welcome soothing escape from busy city-life.
I can't wait to return!

I stayed with 4 girl friends in the Choza grande and have had the trip of a life time! The Choza was perfect for our group with a well equipped kitchen, outside space and situated in a magical straw building which seemed to fit in so well with its rural Andalusian surrounds. We found Casas Karen and Los Canos to be a magical place and so close to some idyllic spanish towns, markets and beaches. We even ventured to Morrocco for the day! Hoping to return next year!

I had the most wonderful time staying in the Choza Grande with a group of friends. The Chosa itself was just idyllic and making use of the spacious garden area around it we were able to have meals and barbeques out in the sun. Clean and extremely picturesque if felt like we were really tucked away from it all. The beaches were perfect and very easy to get to, and the bars, shops and cafes in the surrounding area had a lovely feel to them.

Room Tip: Late May was a great time to visit - not too busy with other tourists but still plenty of sun. I think it was 29/30 degrees C most days and we had lots of space to ourselves on the beaches!
