“A beautiful villa in a superb location!”
Reviewed 19 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We spent 10 days there as a party of 14 in early May and had a great holiday. The owner Emilia was very helpful in the months before our visit answering my many questions, and was a delightful lady when we met her and her son Manuel. The villa is in a superb location overlooking Frigiliana with views all the way down to the coast, and a 20-30 minute walk from the village. The seven bedrooms/six bathrooms are well furnished with comfortable beds and lots of towels (bath and pool towels provided), the outside balcony on the first floor is where we spent many hours, round the large table and also on the comfy sofas. The large BBQ area is well equipped for an evening eating, drinking and cooking. Plenty of sunbeds were provided by the pool (which was lovely) and there was sufficient area to seek shade from the hot sun (it was 25-34 degC in early May, a little warmer than normal!). A great place for a large group (we did lots of hill-walking) or families to spend time together. One thing to mention is the very steep drive with several tight hair-pin bends (look on Google Earth), it did not overly concern us but elderly or nervous drivers might find it trick.
All in all a fabulous place to spend a week or two relaxing, you won't be disappointed!

“A beautiful spot!”
Reviewed 7 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Alqueria del Duende is situated in a stunning location with wonderful views of the hills, the white-washed village of Frigiliana and the sea in the distance. The house itself is spacious, very well-maintained, with numerous terraces and a lovely pool. The downstairs rooms were a little damp when we went in April, but no doubt would be perfect for the sizzling heat of the Andalucian summer. On the other hand the benefit of visiting in April/May is that the hills are verdant and covered with beautiful wild flowers and it is a good time of year to walk the nearby trails.

“Fantastic!”
Reviewed 25 May 2013 for a stay in May 2013

Just returned from a week at this villa. The party consisted of 6 couples. we had a great time in a beautiful house. It had everything we needed, 7 bedrooms and six bathrooms, five of them en suite. Lovely lounge with wood burning stove, sky tv, and wi fi. Fabulous terrace off the lounge with stunning views of Frigiliana. The gardens are well tended and full of flowers.
Swimming pool with enough sun loungers for us all.
BBQ area with large table and chairs, enough to accommodate everyone.
In my opinion the villa is great for large groups. Plenty of space and areas to sit if you want a bit of solitude! The views from all the terraces are spectacular! Very quiet and peaceful.
The approach from the road is quite steep, but not a problem on foot for the fit, and I did it several times slowly and taking in the views . You can walk into Frigiliana it takes about 30- 45 mins depending on how many times you stop either for breath or for a photo shot! The quickest route is to turn off the road at the Hotel Rural sign just a little way from the villa. The narrow road winds its way through avocado plantations and it's very pretty.
The villa owner is lovely, very helpful.. She cooked for us on two nights. A superb Paella one night and Tapas the other. I would recommend !
Frigiliana is a lovely example of the Pueblos Blancos of Andalucia. Pretty whitewashed houses in narrow streets. A photographers paradise!
Lidl supermarket on the road out of Frigiliana, or Mercadona in Nerja. A small local supermarket in Frigiliana which is open on Sundays, which may be useful if you arrive on Saturday as the big supermarkets don't open on Sunday. Maybe they do in the high season, I'm not sure.
All in all a wonderful holiday in a great house.

“place where your heart could meet your soul”
Reviewed 20 January 2012 for a stay in January 2012

Very nice and cozy villa. You feel as you visite your grandpearents/ Very friendlu owner. We hardly saw them, only in a day of arrival and day of leaving. Fully eqquiped with all you need. You can spend your time in the living room at the fire place, or at terrace, or near swimming pool,or near barbeque. In the main house there are 2 rooms, the others have separated entrence. Each one has the shower and toilet. We do not have any trouble exept some difficulties with the hot whater. Perhaps some of us had the fish relatives. From the terrace the beautiful view is opend: you can see small white village on the slope, In the morning you can hear birds singing, donkey brooding and rooster's yelling. Villa has the specific location- no neighbour next to the fence, becouse it situated lower then the others. These place as good If you want to listen to natute as if you want to spend jolly time with your friens of family

“Beautiful house in a fantastic location”

I stayed at Alqueria del Duende for a week with my parents, two sisters, a brother in law and three young children. On our arrival we were immediately impressed by the helpfulness of the owner, she met us in the town of Frigiliana and we followed her up to the house itself.

The house is in great condition and very nicely decorated, with lots of details that give it charm. The kitchen is very well equipped and there's plenty of space for a large group to cook and eat. There are three rooms on the upper floor, in the main part of the house, one with an en-suite bathroom and the other two sharing. The remaining four rooms on the lower floor each have their own bathroom and separate entrances from the garden.

In daylight we were stunned by the view as we ate breakfast on the large terrace on the upper floor. You can see all the way down to the sea along the valley dotted with a few houses here and there. On one side is Frigiliana itself, with all its whitewashed buildings climbing up the hillside.

We really enjoyed the garden and pool, even though in mid-October it was starting to get a bit chilly. One bonus is that there are a bar and restaurant within walking distance, so you don't always need to drive to go out.

Basic groceries are available in Frigiliana and the city of Nerja isn't far away if you want a large supermarket. Granada and Málaga are easily reached by car.
