“A MUST visit Restaurant!!!”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

MESON ALAZOR (in Spanish). We've been going to this restaurant for the past 8 years or so, and every time we come to this area on holiday we go at least once. The staff are friendly (it's pretty quiet during the week - it's absolutely HEAVING on Sunday lunchtimes!) The Ensalada de la Casa (House Salad) with tons of fresh fruit is to DIE for!!! (Tip - try the 'blood pudding' or 'Morcilla'. If you even vaguely like Black Pudding, you'll LOVE this. It actually doesn't taste anything like English Black Pudding - it's a whole PLANET better!) The trout dishes are very tasty and very reasonably priced (the restaurant is situated next to a trout farm, and across the motorway is a sturgeon farm, which exports caviare all over the world). The restaurant is beautifully built and the staff are exceptionally friendly. You can have the menu in either Spanish or English, and in all the times we've been, we've never had a bad meal or experience.

“Rio Frio (Cold River) 15 restaurants and character.”
Reviewed 10 July 2012

Rio Frio is just outside Loja off the A92 motorway going from Granada / Loja to Seville / Malaga. El Alazor is a family run airconditioned / heated restaurant with winter log fire as well. There are at least 15 restaurants in this delightful oasis beside the cold river. You can cool your beer in the river here even in August since the rivers are fed straight from deep inside the Sierra de Loja. There are several trout farms here. To find El Alazor cross the bridgeover the rivers in the square and drive alongside the Rio Frio upstream passing the church on your right. Alazor is on your left after the steep incline. The food is typical Central Andalucia great quality and really good value for money. Try the ensalada de casa and the trout, followed by one of the home made puddings, washed down with a jug of tinto verano. You can dine out in style with friendly service for 20 euros a head here, and probably get offered a free brandy with your coffee.
