Truly an amazing experience, far away from the mass crowded beaches in Southern Spain. This small hotel actually has 2 different buildings: the hotel in the litte town of Agua Amarga and the Suites, 1km out of the town. Me and my girlfriend stayed in the Suites. The suites were little houses on theirselves with a roofterrace, a patio and a private jacuzzi on another patio in the house. The room itself is quite big and very clean, bathroom is nicely done.

The pool area is an ideal place to rest or take a swim, as the Suites only have 7 houses, it is never crowded. The only downside of the pool area is that there was a plague of flies at the moment..... The staff tried to fix this but only with limited succes.

The Mikasa suites are set on a hill in open countryside about 1 km from the beach.[not the same hotel as Mikasa in the village] The suites are very comfortable with good decor and lovely terraces.
The pool area is very nice indeed with lots of loungers and fresh towels all the time. The stunning breakfast is served here , the best Ive had.The staff were very helpful, can't wait to go back.
There is no restaurant, but there are some really good places near.

We chose it initially because it accepts dogs and we usually take Josh with us on our shorter breaks. The location, 150 metres from the sea, the accommodation (a jacuzzi in our bedroom) and the elegance of the communal areas, combined with excellent food made our stay very enjoyable. This hotel is a perfect gem.

i stumbled across this hotel and spa whilst travelling around Almeria with my children. Although I didn't stay there with my children, I was so impressed with the look hotel and indeed by Agua Amarga, that i returned the following year with my partner for a few days of luxury, and couldn't have been happier that I did. The rooms were superb, the service fantastic, the restaurant next door was fabulous, and Agua Amarga is so pretty. You can wander along the beach and sample the lunchtime paella. Its a well kept secret place, popular with the Spanish who come to the coast from Madrid for weekends during the summer, but once you discover the secret you won't be disappointed.

We stayed in Mikasa in June 2011. The staff could not have been more helpful, friendly and courteous both before and after our visit. Provision was made for our late arrival and we were given access to our room throughout the day of our departure. The star of the hotel was the multilingual receptionist Angelina, a most engaging person who knows much about the area and its history and for whom no enquiry or request was too much trouble. We were served by Marianna who was also attentive.

The hotel itself maintains high standards of accommodation and cleanliness. The communal and pool areas are comfortable providing a delightful setting to eat breakfast in the morning sun or dinner by candlelight in the evening.

Guests can choose to eat a three course dinner (25 euros) in the hotel cooked by ‘Mamma’ who will adapt the menu for dietary needs.

Breakfast is included and what breakfasts! They are delicious consisting of a whole range of fresh fruit, cereals, cheeses, chorizo and jamon and some wonderful cooked Spanish specialities. We couldn’t eat anything else until dinner in the evening.

Agua Amarga was very quiet at the time of year. Most of the people we met were Spanish. There are three or four bars, the most lively being ‘The Plaza’ in the village square which served food and drinks until late. We ate in the hotel and in restaurants. The two we ate at most frequently were La Palmera and Taharis at opposite ends of the beach both of which served fish dishes in the Spanish way. We thought the restaurants in Agua Amarga were more expensive than in San Jose and Carboneras.

We enjoyed walking in Cabo de Gata and visiting some neighbouring resorts and towns.

We have been here twice. Once at the"suites" and once at the "villas". The suites are really fabulous. Incredible room with perfect feeing for design and luxury. It is very quiet so don´t expect to there for the party but for couples for a romantic stay it will be difficult to top especially for the price. But you will need car if you want to go the town or to the beach. For the sporty trecking is recommenden to really secluded beaches in the middle of this nature reserve. The villas are also very nice but more for families or several couples sharing. Yopu eassily fit 6 people in the house without it getting crowede. Very pretty and well equipped house around a common swimming pool and only a very short way from the beach. The beach and the town is quiet and relaxing. The restaurant at the hotel is a pearl. Close to Guie Michelin class but other prices.
