We had a lovely table. The staff were welcoming and helpful. We ordered from an extensive menu, and because the place was quiet there was no reason for mistakes.
An amuse-bouche of almond soup was refreshing. My wife's starter of tempura vegetables was well cooked but lacked imagination. My partridge "risotto" starter was over salted and the quarter partridge left on the bone - as much as I like picking a bone this was not the time and the cooked meat could easily have been removed in preparation. In contrast, my rack of lamb was under-seasoned but served with a tasty cheese crust. I would have liked more of the sauce it stood on. But attractive parcels of spinach wrapped in carrot strips were ruined by large chunks of bitter uncooked garlic. My wife chose slow-cooked suckling pig which was served with black pasta ribbons, cold and sticky and again laced with unpleasant uncooked garlic. All in all, we thought they failed to deliver on promise - perhaps as much a let down to the pleasant owner as ourselves. Perhaps it was the chef's night off, but that's no excuse. Quite expensive and clearly taking advantage of its position in the tourist part of Ubeda.
