We visited this church on a combination ticket that gave us entry to the Church, tower and the mausoleum of the Lovers of Teruel monument.

We didn't know much about the Lovers, so the display and art works were quite a revelation for us. The story is a bit like the Spanish version of Romeo and Juliet and has inspired numerous works of art, in painting, music and literature. The actual tombs are quite appealing, if a bit sentimental.

We were much more interested in the church with its wonderful painted ceiling and gold decorations, and also the marvellous stained glass windows.

The tower is the oldest in Teruel and is built in the distinctive mudejar style. The view from the tower is not particularly wonderful, although you can see over the town, but the walk along the balustrades around the church are interesting.

As well, it is possible to visit the cloister, which is very quiet and peaceful.

We were on a Spanish speaking tour, as we were not there at peak times when they may have had an English guide? (not sure of this). This was unfortunate as we don't speak Spanish, and had to stick with the crowd even though we had no idea what they were saying. The guide was very humourless and not very welcoming.

Even so, the beauty of the church made it a worth while attraction. The outside of the building is also interesting to explore, as it is all different angles, tiles and rooflines in the Mudejar style.

Teruel was a 3hour stop over for us and we did not know what to expect. The surprise was the beautiful Mudejar style and tile work was very unique and interesting, which caused us to seek more examples. The church & tower of San Pedro are beautiful and a fine example of Mudejar Architecture, we spend about an hour just walking around the church & tower on the outside just to see it from as many angles as possible. The old town has a wonderful feel with many examples of the Mudejar Architecture and great restaurants. My wife and I decided to get an early morning snack and stopped at a little bakery for café coto and a sandwich.........a bacon and egg on toasted flat bread. It was one of the best bacon sandwiches I have ever had, wonderful and there are many other places. You can cover Teruel in one day but it is a great place to visit, thank goodness we had a stop over or we would have missed it.

This is one of the major highlights in Teruel! The staff are so helpful and accommodating. The story is very Romeo and Juliet.
