“Excellent family holiday!”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

We stayed as a family with a 5 and 4 year old for 1 week from 28th June and just returned yesterday. We only booked this holiday through Jet 2 holidays a week before we left as a last minute treat and we were delighted with it! It was our first package type holiday so were unsure of what to expect.....

After reading about the long transfers from the airport to the resort we decided to book a private taxi which cost us 100 euros but only took 1 hour and was very easy after collecting our luggage. We were met by Michelle at reception who was a pleasure to deal with, she was very welcoming and informative and provided us with everything we needed to know for the next week.

We requested a sea view room and were located in Block 12 (Dolphin), this was perfect as far enough away from the evening entertainment to not hear a thing but close enough to walk to pools, restaurants etc. The view was fantastic and all you could hear was the sea lapping up by the beach each morning. The beach really is beautiful and the colour of the sea is turquoise blue, I loved having my morning cuppa on the balcony taking in the views. The room itself was excellent, well equipped and ideal for a family of 4, the kids slept on the sofa bed and we have a lovely king size firm bed in the separate bedroom. The bathroom had a lovely big walk in shower which the kids loved!

Pools were great, kids loved the pirate ship pool and the big main pool by the pool bar. My favourite was the chill out pool which we didn't find until day 4 but it was a lovely surprise when we did.... a lovely calm atmosphere with Bali beds to snooze on, loungers partly in the pool, a snack/drinks bar, ah perfect!

There were lots of daily activities on offer, as a bit of a fitness freak I wanted to try out some classes so did something every day including, spinning (5pm every day), body balance, aerobics. Thanks to Sandra for taking these great classes! The gym equipment is pretty dated (as are the spinning bikes!) but it's got enough for a workout and was very quiet while I was there. There is also daily football and beach volleyball too.

The kids loved the kids club, big thanks to Marco, Selina and Simone for keeping our two so happy all week! They did creative hour most mornings, pirate games, baking, medal games and treasure hunts. All great fun and meant we got to chill by ourselves for a bit which was nice. Beware that some activities for kids do require parents present such as t-shirt painting (cost of 6 euro for this too) and treasure hunts as they go out of the club to do this. Mini disco at night was a hit and the kids go mad for Bufo and Katty! My two were obsessed with them by the end of the week and crying when we came to leave!

Restaurants were great, we were All Inclusive so mostly ate in the Caprice main restaurant which was buffet style, so much choice for everyone here and we were never disappointed. Thanks to Manuel who met us each day which a huge smile at this restaurant, my wee boy Jack loved him and was always pleased to see him and "high five" each day.
We ate in the Mexican once and the Italian too, both excellent. The Italian is lovely and offered the best food, service and views. We had such a lovely meal here, thank you.

Another thing to mention is there is a laundry room with 2 washing machines and a tumble drier which is free to use 24 hours a day but just bring your own detergents. This was a life saver for me and I put a wash on every day and came home with 2 cases of clean clothes, bonus!

All in all a fantastic holiday, kids have been crying since we left and are desperate to go back. Only mistake we made about this trip was only going for 1 week instead of 2. We will be back though.

We got a sea view room, which is looking right to the beach. It has two rooms with small kitchen. One not best thing here is a priced water for not ai guests, though it can be bought in the shops nearby.

Excellent beach, smiling and attentive stuff and sooo tasty food. General buffet is great for breakfast and dinner, for lunch we prefer a la carte. In case you are wine lovers ai is much cheaper.

Arrived at Palma Airport at 5.30pm told to go to coach operated by captain cook stayed on coach for over 2hrs waiting for other flights. Finally arrived at Hotel at 11.30pm. reception was half hearted. Told how to get to room pointing in a north east direction its real easy, yes when you are a permanent here. There where no lights in the walk area finally found the building. No offer of help by staff, had our mother in law with walking difficulties. Location is very nice overlooking the beach, not close to nearest town so expect to do nothing. The buffet breakfast and dinner all inclusive was good. We had a night at there Italian Restaurant, should have stayed with the buffet. Took over an hour for a fish soup that was a frozen marinara mix thawed, placed onto a plate and hot stock poured over. One taste was enough. Staff Manuel Maitre De at the Buffet, Torston the Executive Chef and Gabriel (fix it) the public relations lady where outstanding. Stayed two weeks lucky my wife spoke German as it was 95% German here. Met the rare English tourist who did not have a great time. So don't expect English as the spoken language here, German is even though it is Spain.

Room Tip: Ask for block 13 overlooking the beach and away from the live entertainment that is on each night.

Dear Family Bwowed,
We thank you very much for your recent stay in VIVA CALA MESQUIDA RESORT, and regret that you were not completely satisfied, We agree with you about the difficulty to find a room on the first day, specially arriving so late, as you know we have a very big complex with 10 buildings and a lot of green gardens which we are very proud of, we are planning to improve the lights of the corridors but specially train our staff to improve. We are in a very nice location, one of the nicest “Calas” in Mallorca with a beautiful beach and a great view from the hotel to the sea with spectacular colors. Concerning the Italian restaurant we regret to here you did not enjoy it, because is one of our best a la carte restaurants, with a high quality in product and service, we were not able to show you that night so we apologize, we will try harder to improve. It’s also correct we do not have many British clients, we have mainly Scandinavian which speak English with us and it helps, also German, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian clients, every client is welcome and we try to speak in their own language us much as we can, we have in each department staff with knowledge of the languages of the nationalities we have. Again many many thanks for your honest review and for your reservation here, should you consider another visit please let us know, this would be our second chance to show you we can provide an excellent service, with your comments it will for sure improve.

Kindest regards

On arrival checked in was delt with very welll & friendly , nena on reception gave us a great room as we wanted a bit more room & sea view,we had block 13 rm 3211 facing beach & sea pine forested hills perfect with a double balcony cot 140 euro more but worth it. all luggage wa taken to our room for us so wecould settle in without hassle which was great, the room is fair size with one bedroom bathroom functional kitchen , toaster kettle microwave, we found it best on the wallet to have breakfast in the room & light lunch in the room & eat out in the evening this way i could spend around 100 euro a day ish max sounds a bit , but coffee ice cream a beer or two during the day & a meal in the evening 50 to 70 euro with wine 100 does not go far. But i love eating out & cant stand all inclusive que & repetition. It is an option here if u want & most people say is good, this resort is mainly european with mainly norwegen swedish, german a few brits spanish , polish so if u like to be with other brits this is not for u,there are three resturants italian, mexican, grill on the beach bar the italian is very good great service & food grill is good best to reserve a table if u want to eat between 6-8 as gets very busy, i did not find the mexican the best ,the little one s just wanted a burger was not the best quality expected 100% steak burger ie 4 star hotel got an iceland special not empressed told the manager he apologised & offered a free meal , mm thanks but no,still i hope they will get a decent burger if it s on the menu, there is willies resturant & bar just down the rd to the beach typical tappas spanish food all great, there is 2 supermarkets just across the rd a little expensive but fine , if u have a car there is larger cheaper supermarkets just 5 min away in caperdena most things half the price ,overall facility great childrens play areas ,pirate park splash pool, indoor pool, top pool is deep, middle pool ok for my 6 year old who can swim a little, Overall a great hotel & holiday def reccomend it. william iom

Room Tip: try block 13 ask for beach sea view & upgrade options not as expensive as u might think

We are just back from a short stay at Cala Mesquida, in general it was very nice. We have actually stayed in Viva Cala Mesquida Club not the Resort however by a mistake of some people we went to eat at the restaurant La Guitarra at the Viva Resort, and what a pleasure it was!
All started on the day of my birthday when my husband wanted to treat our little family to a nice diner at Marco Polo restaurant located at the Viva Club, it is supposed to be a Teppanyaky and fusion restaurant and at the end it is just a great deception. We never got to eat the Teppanyaky as there are only 15 places for the whole hotel and the person who did our reservation made a mistake, so we finished eating the "fusin" buffet, not sure really what to say about it but as to the "fusion" cuisine perhaps the chef should go for some training. Food was not tasty at all everything was cold, the risotto was just a kind of cold rice all sticked together, dry and tasteless, in general horrible. We did ask the manager of the restaurant why our reservation was not correct and he did stay very polite and competent and to excuse himself he gave us a diner at the La Guitarra restaurant. It is a mexican and after the first bad experience we were a bit scared where we are going and what is there going to be to eat especially that our older son is a big fan of mexican kitchen. But as soon as we have entered the restaurant it was just a pure pleasure, we were greeted by Antonio and he also assisted us during the whole diner. Food was wonderful, everyone was thrilled and we had a great evening. Bravo to Antonio and the entire team there, we appreciated great service and at the end we did win in exchange. Please keep up this great job and we hope to see you soon! Perhaps a few lessons to your collegues next door will help them improve their overall service
thanks

Dear Miss Agnieszka,
We thank you very much for your very kind comments about our restaurant La Guitarra, Antonio was very happy to read this comments and he was motivated for the season, many thanks from his part. We have in Viva Cala Mesquida Resort three a la carte restaurants, a grill restaurant Mirablau on the beach, and Italian restaurant La Terrazza with a wonderful view to the sea and the one you visited. We have also taken very good note from your remarks about Viva Cala Mesquida Club and passed them to our colleagues, for sure they will help to improve. Many thanks again and hope to see you son at our hotel.

Could not fault the hotel and its facilities. It was a big resort, pools lovely and restaurants were nice. only a short walk from the beach which was just ok. However we were the only English and the location was not good at all. when you left the hotel there was nothing to do. We ended up getting a taxi every day and night to the Port cala ratjada . That was lovely and I wish we had got a hotel there!! would not stay again

Dear clients,

Thank you very much for booking our Viva Cala Mesquida Resort and for devoting part of your time to review you stay with us.

We are thrilled to know that the hotel’s facilities, the polls, the playgrounds and the restaurants lived up to your expectations. Our hotel enjoys a privileged position, laying directly next to the beautiful Cala Mesquida Beach, it offers incredible views and three sea view pools surrounded by a natural and very quite area. It is a product different from the ones offered in Cala Ratjada because the natural surroundings, the closeness to the beach and the tranquility offered to families are unique.
Thank you again.
Best regards,
Hotel Management,

Reviewed 24 October 2013

Stayed here for an extended weekend recently. We aren't the type who would ever usually choose to stay in an "all on site" resort, but the rural location attracted us and I thought in mid October the place would be semi-deserted...

I was wrong ! - if that's a normal level of occupation in October I dread to imagine what it's like in July/August, as the place seemed full of predominantly German families !.

The location was exactly as expected and ideal for us, but for anyone staying more than afew days and not into "all inclusive" then you definitely need a car (which we had). Cala Mesquida beach is lovely, although again it was moderately busy in mid October, in summer it must be heaving. There's some nice country/coastal walks to both the north and south, we walked to Cala Torta (another gorgeous beach) to the north, and all the way to Cala Ratjada to the south.

We had the misfortune to be located near to the evening entertainment on the stage, which starts at 8pm and finishes at 10.30pm and which is very children orientated, which wasn't my kind of thing at all but was precisely what I expected.

The grounds of the hotel are nice, with lots of landscaping and pools, although because it was generally busy with kids we found ourselves frequently walking into Hotel Vanity and playing badminton and table tennis there, as it was much more peaceful (I know we shouldn't have used their facilities but they were always available !).

Can't comment about food as we were self-catering, was pleasantly surprised to find that we had free wi-fi throughout the resort. Our apartment was spacious, clean and contained everything we needed during our stay, although because of the high ceilings, tiled floors and the fact it was north facing it has to be said that the apartment wasn't warm, and it was frustrating that the heating/air-con was centrally controlled so couldn't be turned on.

For the price we paid (£100 for 3 nights) I'm pleased we stayed here, the location was ideal in terms of being away from the centre of towns and enabling walks in the country and alone the coastline, the accommodation was fine too, but if you asked me to go back for a week in the middle of summer I'd politely decline !.
