We returned a week ago from the Protur Playa in Cala Millor, the hotel has just been completely refurbished. The staff are great and the manager was always there if you had a problem, we found the hotel very relaxing the colours are lovely in the hotel and the shower is the best l have ever used in a hotel. Food was very good, but the pool was cold it needed heating and the entertainment was okay, but we met some lovely couples so we were quite happy, we will be going back we would strongly recommended the Protur Playa lovely hotel.

Room Tip: Book a seaview room overlooking the pool and sea well worth it.

On arrival our reception at the hotel was friendly. However whilst the welcome drink was more than acceptable we felt a little disillusioned with the lack of porterage. Getting two heavy cases to the eighth floor following a long journey didnt go down well.
Our room had a sea view and balcony. It was somewhat small but very pleasant as it had recently been refurbished. A king size bed--flat screen TV with free view programmes ---mini bar --safe which came with a charge of 27euros for our 14 day stay.
The good sized bathroom had a walk in power shower and ultra modern fixtures / fittings. Unfortunately the supply of toilet accessories was toally inadequate--in fact very poor indeed
Food
The overall standard of meals was no better or worse than what we have experienced over the years at other hotels used by Thomson holiday makers. The meals were extremely repetitive but nevertheless presented in a delicate way with the more discerning guest often heard expressing how much effort it must have taken to produce such a display.
Presentation isn`t everything however as major problems emerged as our stay at the hotel continued. For instance one fish meal had to be handed back to the maitre d. The smell permeating from the plate indicated beyond doubt the fish was inedible.Despite this no effort was made to clear other fish that had been cooked alongside it.
Various meat dishes were on the menu during the course of our stay. Unfortunately some were undercooked ( chicken for example) and many other cuts were found to be either tough chewy or tasteless.
Breakfasts were nothing special at all. Very little fruit variety unless you enjoyed the tin version --- the usual ultra thin bacon you get abroad --very bland sausage--scrambled egg with remnants of shell to add to the flavour.
Most worrying however all the meals were very often only lukewarm. To make matters worse trying to find a hot plate only added to an overall sense of dissatisfaction.
Other problems materialised in the restaurant. It was noticeable many ladies took time out to present themselves in a very elegant way with their partners looking equally smart to match the occasion.Regrettably however some took no notice of managements request to dress appropriately turning up in football shirts/shorts and trainers. With some females attending in skimpy shorts the whole occasion could easily have degenerated into something akin to a night out at a local working mens club. Although management stated steps would be taken to prevent this happening nothing was resolved during our 14 day stay with unkempt guests continuing to walk into the restaurant unchallenged. What a great shame paticularly for those who had made an effort to present themselves fittingly for the occasion.
Evening Entertainment
What a complete let down. The so called resident duo were unbelievably loud and out of tune the majority of the time. The crescendo they produced made conversations between guests an absolute impossibility. I know Pedro the manager tried to get the noise turned down but even his efforts were in vain. It got no better when the "duo" had a night off as unbelievably a film depicting violence and constant uproar was shown on a screen in the lounge.Another night of miming to your partner sitting next to you was the only way to keep sane.
The Staff
They were all absolutely brilliant, They were all courteous friendly and happy throughout. It must be hoped management realise how precious they all are to the company.
All Inclusive
I`m sure management are delighted this stops in a couple of weeks time. It was incredible to see how many `arm band` guests took full advantage of what was on offer at any time of the day and then make themselves look silly or ill in the process.
This hotel is superb in terms of its decor with ultra modern fixtures and fittings. It is situated in an ideal place directly alongside the sea. At the moment however it appears to be a work in progress situation with a lot of fine tuning essential to ensure success.

Room Tip: A high floor or even a superior room if your pocket runs to the cost

This hotel has good and bad points. Rooms and bathrooms are very good. Food is nothing special, but not awful. Drinks are good for all inclusive. Staff are friendly. Public space is sparse with uncomfortable seating and is not well designed for entertainment. Entertainment is very disappointing.

Newly refurbished hotel and new as Thomson Couples hotel. We arrived 13th May and it was almost finished.

Nice welcome, offered champagne (sparkling wine) or orange juice and room was ready (late morning). No offer to help with bags (saw even elderly people struggling with cases during our stay).

Paid for room with sea view and though it did have a sea view, this was partly blocked by other section of the hotel (we were close to corner, in fact only the room directly in the corner would have had a worse view).

The room although small and with limited storage (especially drawers) was very pleasant. Up to date and clean. Super-king bed (two mattresses). Pillows were not brilliant (two square and two very soft standard pillows).

Room had very small, low table – but no chairs. (Requested and two dining chairs were delivered, changed 5 days into our holiday with more suitable chairs).

Decent hairdryer, but mirror set too high to be able to sit and dry hair. 37” TV mounted on the wall in front of the bed. Sockets each side of the bed – great for hungry smart phones!

Kettle provided, with two sachets of mint tea (nothing else) – were able to get sachets/tea bags at breakfast and a few days into the holiday tea bags, decaf coffee sachets and tiny creamers were also left. Bizarrely stainless steel kettle was replaced with a white one part way through our stay.

Large bottle of water left on first day, but not replaced. One packet of crisps left each day. Fridge contained soft drinks (don’t know if it is replenished as we did not use it much).

Welcome meeting invite just said ‘9.45 and 5.30 everyday’. However, couple of days a ‘sorry you missed the welcome meeting’ card was left in the room.

Balcony was small and had small table, but no chairs. (Requested and delivered).

Bathroom was very good. Clean. Large powerful shower (luke warm one day, but the rest of the time really good). Towels white and obviously new, changed each day if left in the shower.

The promised ‘Biomar’ toiletries comprised four tubes of shampoo. When I asked for shower gel and conditioner, we got some shower gel. When the initial supply was used it was not replaced, I requested more toiletries and was told that they were not replaced! Not a real problem, but annoying ‘over promise’ – just take your own everything.

Bathroom door had no lock and had transluscent door (which though not transparent, did make room light up when occupied – not good in middle of the night). Light in bathroom went on when someone entered the room.

Light system itself could all be operated via controls next to each side of the bed.

Pool area has very little shade. No mattresses on sunbeds, but some double beds with mattresses. There were not enough sunbeds for the number of guests (and hotel was not full). The ‘towel on the sunbed brigade’ were out before daylight, reserving their beds. ‘the elephants chillout’ area has various types of beds/seats. More style than function.

Lounge area inside is rather sparse (though new chairs seemed to appear every day). Lots of large sofas, which were mostly uncomfortable as seats too deep. Also, not really suited to the ‘couples’ concept. Most chairs were also uncomfortable, there were almost queues for the ‘comfy’ chairs. At night there was not enough seating for guests and we had to resort to dragging tables and chairs in from outside.

Sometimes not enough waiting staff and long waits for drinks, visits to the bar were positively discouraged. Lounge area is L shaped and has lots of pillars – not conducive to entertainment.

The entertainment was a combination of non-existent and awful. One night a small projector screen was put in a corner of the room and Pretty Woman screened. Another night the entertainment was someone making cocktails. Live music was not of a high quality. If you like to be entertained, you are likely to be disappointed.

Spirits offered were very good for all inclusive – some branded spirits included. Wine was less good. Cava was OK (not served in restaurant), no choice of wine, just red, white or rose. Red and white were drinkable, but nothing special.

Staff were on the whole very friendly – an exception was one of the female bar staff who was rude and seemed to like slamming drinks down.

Internet was included and was mostly OK, if slow. Bit annoying as had to keep logging on and sometimes had to make numerous attempts. Apparently up to three devices can be logged on with each user name and password (only used two). One day could not get onto network – reception advised that all users had been reset – would have been good if they had put notice up to advise guests as many were getting very frustrated.

Food was disappointing. Lunch for all inclusive guests is only available in the main restaurant (pool snack bar is charged). All inclusive food only available at set times and nothing between lunch and dinner or after 21.15. Not saying we wanted to eat constantly, but it would be nice to be able to get a snack if, for example, missed lunch. Dinner is served in two sittings - you are allocated a table you have to sit at each evening. Personally I prefer a more relaxed approach, but this way there is no queuing for tables.

At lunch time poor choice and dishes were not labelled (eg could tell it was white fish, but what type/sauce?). Salads very basic – eg sliced cucumber/tomato/onion. No mixed salads.

Dinner was slightly better, but a large amount of overcooked, dried up food – eg tuna so overdone it was inedible. Soup was not hot enough and always very salty.

At breakfast croissants were very small and sometimes partly raw. Bread was good at all meals (but often particularly at lunch the breakfast baskets were empty). If you like water melon you are in for a treat as it was served at every meal as were wafer thin slices of cheese.

Al la carte restaurant was OK. Limited choice and small portions.

Location of the hotel is great. Shops one minute away. Cala Millor ‘town’ not much further. Town has usual mix of resort tat and a few better shops (Mango, Springfield). Plenty of bars/restaurants. Not a wild party town by any means. Half an hour walk left along the front gets you to Cala Bona. Heading right gets you to Sa Coma. Bus stops close by with what appeared to be frequent service to several places – did not use the buses though.

Returned from this hotel a week ago after spending 14 days there. A few problems to start with I think it opened 3/4 days before it was fully up and running after a refurbishment. The hotel stands only 10/15 meters from the beach, our room was on the 4th floor with a sea view balcony and had a wonderful view of the sea, Cala Millor town and the headland. It was very modern with touch pad controls for the lights etc with a good sized walk in shower room. The room was kept very clean each day. Food in the main restaurant was excellent and many choices were available, staff were very helpful and friendly nothing was too much trouble. The Mediterranean restaurant can be booked once each week during your stay and with a different menu to suit most diners. There is a small gym and Jacuzzi, the pool area is again is excellent, one problem is sunbeds we did not feel sufficient were available but this was a minor point we went out most of the time. Lots to do locally and a bus service operates close buy and is very reasonable to go to the other towns. Overall the hotel was a really enjoyable stay and the managers and all staff helped to make our holiday one of the best we have had.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 4th floor or above and at the sea end of the hotel, rooms above the reception area tend to not get the sun after about 10am.
