“Holiday To Talayot”
Reviewed 27 May 2012

Me and my boyfriend (17/19) stayed in the Talayot in Aug 11. It was a great holiday. The food was great there was something different to choose from each day and they allocate where you sit which is good cause you don't have to worry about not getting a seat at dinner. If you don't like the food you could always nip to KFC which is a 2 minute walk towards the beach. Cigarette shop close to hotel. Plenty of gift shops. The beach was clean and lovely, think it was about 12 euros for two sun beds and an umbrella, but you can lie on your towel for free! We hired a bike and rode into Cala Bona, lovely place. Room was good we had a sea view which was lovely for in the mornings and seeing the sunset at night. Spacious and well equipped had space for all my things. TV had English channels for those who go on holiday to watch tele haha, Coronation Street came through good and the sky news channel kept us up to date with the riots going on at home. Room was cleaned everyday and towels changed. We got a spare card incase one of us wanted to go to the shop whilst the other showered etc which came in handy as we left it in the air conditioning slot throughout the day and came back to a nice cool room. We also visited some caves which is worth going to. We also went to the water park in Palma which is definitely worth visiting as we had a great time! Entertainment was good nothing special but it kept us entertained. Weather was very hot in august(no surprise there) think it was early/mid 30s. Really handy having a shop next door and a cafe as we slept through breakfast a few times. You have to pay for mini fridge and safety deposit box think it was 15 euros each and you get 3 euros back after your stay. Would recommend banana boating and it is not expensive. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Cala Millor.

Room Tip: Definitely worth getting a sea view room

We have just spent a week at the Talayot as the second part of a Thomson TUi 'Cruise and Stay' deal. (The cruise ship, mv. 'Island Escape', had an outbreak of norovirus, but, more of that elsewhere). We have taken around a dozen holidays in Mallorca, the first in 1974. The last time we were in Cala Millor (at the Bahia del Este) was in 1977. There were occasions during this last week at the Talayot when I thought we had been transported back to 1977! The Hotel was looking a little 'tired' overall. At Reception on arrival we paid 42 euros extra for a 'sea-view' room, on the 3rd. floor. This was worth it for the views around the bay. However, the balcony windows were dirty, and were never cleaned during our stay. Also, the bathroom mirror was only cleaned where there were toothpaste marks in the centre, but never anywhere else. The furniture was functional and of the self assembly type one could buy in MFI fifteen to twenty years ago. The tv was not flat-screen. And, in 2012, I fail to grasp how an Hotel can justify charging a fee to use the 'fridge in the bedroom! An electric kettle was provided, but, the tea, coffee etc., had to be bought by guests. In the Dining Room, the food choice, variety etc., was good. Self-service buffet, with the pleasant enough staff engaged on dirty dish collecting duties. Our table cloth wasn't changed every day, and, when a 'clean' one was spread, it often still had stains visible. The entertainment was varied. The Entertainment Manager (Sante?) worked his socks off, but, I suspect his budget was limited. We did enjoy the Paella preparation, cooking (and eating) demonstration, (6 euros each). The Wednesday evening 'Flamenco' dancing was first class. Make no apologies, but, just can't do Bingo, and Line-Dancing doesn't rate much higher. On a couple of evenings, we just had to go to other Hotels for their much superior entertainment. To be fair, this Hotel has been awarded Thomson 'Gold Medals' for nearly 20 years, but, I'm struggling to see how, certainly in recent years, based upon my experiences. I understand that, whilst it is 'family run', it is owned by a local Doctor. Clearly, he needs to broaden his knowledge of what's going on elsewhere in the hotel world, and, spend money upon a major upgrading. After all, the resort, and surrounding area, of Cala Millor, is wonderful, so, the Talayot couldn't fail to benefit.

Just returned from a week at the Talayot hotel in Cala Millor. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the sea view room that we had was quite large and looked as though it was recently refurbished/decorated. We were given a table in the dining room for the entire holiday and the meals were superb. We also enjoyed the evening entertainment although this was varied with bingo, spanish dancing, line dancing and singers. All the staff are friendly and always ready to help. The cafe/bar was good and reasonable for light lunches. I would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to make a return visit soon.

Stayed at the Tayalot 31st March - 7th April. As others have already noted, hotel is in a good location (still quiet area at this time of the year) and we were lucky enough to get a room with a sea-view. Though not a massive variety of kids activities, the indoor pool is good (the outdoor one was too cold) and the hotel is quiet and well run. Food was initially an issue as there was no Vegetarian meal as standard (or perhaps I was just being naive) but that said, once we raised this they changed their evening menus. The only issue we really had was travel. If you wanted to go to say Palma for the day, we were quoted 90 euros (one way) for a taxi But there are local buses that will charge around 10-15 euros return. It's just that you will have to catch them in the morning and that it could take up to 2 hours, so we just stayed in the resort and enjoyed the weather.

We booked this holiday on a tight budget for two adults and four teenagers. We were all thrilled! The food was excellent with something for everyone. The staff were friendly and helpful and the location ensured everyone had something to do. The entertainment was varied with bingo, Spanish dancing, rifle shooting to water polo. A special mention has to go to Sante and Gabriel who worked so skillfully to keep us all entertained and welcomed. We had lovely walks along the coast upto Cala Bona...the paths are pedestrianised with lots of opportunities for drink breaks!

Room Tip: Rooms at front had sunnier balconies.

Hi just been to the Hotel Tayalot Mid March 2012. The hotel is in a good location (quiet area at this time of the year). Entertainment in general was brillian with "Sante", however the Karaoke act on the Thursday night was rubbish and best avoided!
The food in general was good, however there is nothing for a vegetarian apart from vegetables! Waiters and staff were brilliant. The chance to buy the tea/coffee,biscuit packages were brilliant value for money and cannot be beaten in the area. Would definitely go again.

Room Tip: We had the choice of going for a sea view but did not take it but ended up with one anyway!

Decided on a visit to Cala Millor and the Hotel Talayot as a last minute deal
could not have chosen better. Reception was quick and efficient a safety box
was 14 euros with a 3 euro returnable deposit for the week, the room on the second
floor overlooked the pool area and this was a better option as it was shady through
to the afternoon when it got the sun, the room had air conditioning and a fridge which
I believe there is a charge for didn't use it so don't know how much, plenty of cupboard
space, a kettle and cups, a TV with more than the usual 1 English programme, a hair
dryer in the bathroom with complimentary shower/hair sachets etc. The housekeeping
was adequate for purpose there is a note on the wall to say if you require a change of
towels put the used ones on the floor they leave the decision to you when and how you
want clean towels. A tip - take your own tea/coffee and whitener and tea towel prefer
to wash the cups myself, you can purchase coffee/tea and biscuits from reception.

The food at this Hotel was really very good we have no complaints what so ever, there was
plenty of choice at breakfast full English and continental if you prefer, the evening meal
had a carvery choice various other dishes from fish to casseroles and a salad bar with a
choice of two soups cheese and biscuits fresh fruit various cakes and mousses you would
certainly not go hungry, there have been comments on here that its an old peoples home
well there seemed to be a varied selection of holiday makers when we where there including
infants and it was nice to have your own table for the duration, the staff where pleasant and
helpfull.

Out and About - The Hotel is right on the sea front Cala Bona easy to walk to most of it
closed until the season starts, Cala Millor was open for business plenty of shops noticed
the cost of hiring a bike for two was 8 euro's an hour, a normal bike had a special offer on of 5 euros for the day, the boats where running for the first couple of days of the week then the
sea turned rough so no boats the cost of a trip to Porto Christo was 20 Euro's ea.by sea the bus was 1.70 euro each one way, a limited bus service in operation with regard to time table.

To get to the bus stops - turn right out of the Hotel, take your second right and along there is the bus stop to the North of the Island. Cross over the road and walk up a slight incline
past the supermarket and take your third left and along there outside the aparthotel Laurel
is the bus stop to Porto Christo, Manacor and Palma etc. In the summer there seems to be
a more frequent service, even buses to the local markets.

If you choose to visit this Hotel you will find it value for money it is not "5 star luxury" but
a comfortable base to visit the Island.
