We chose this hotel for its ease of access for my mother-in-law who uses a wheelchair and from her perspective it was great. It is possible to get from most places within the resort into the hotel, around the pool and gardens, and up to the rooms all on the flat or using ramps and lifts. The disabled rooms on the 2nd floor have side sea views and have large walk-in showers / wet rooms, so very easy access and user friendly.

This is a large hotel (12 floors) and probably one of the older hotels in the resort. It doesn’t have the attractive appearance of some of the newer hotels. Having said that it has been completely refurbished to a very high standard, and the bedrooms and facilities are superb and all spotlessly clean and it is in a good location for views and access to the shops, promenade and beach. The hotel has side sea view rooms on the outsides and insides of a letter ‘H’ type configuration, so all rooms will get some sun for part of the day. Sea view rooms face east and have sun in the mornings and panoramic views of the bay. We upgraded our side sea view room to a sea view on the 9th floor for an extra 8€ night – well worth it.

The hotel caters for a mostly German clientele. There is an extensive breakfast buffet and a lovely outside terrace. We ate in on only one evening (20€) and the Mallorcan buffet was excellent, in fact better than any other meal we had. Whilst there are a variety of restaurants nearby the majority of menus are not at all appealing, so I would recommend full board. Most evenings a fairly banal range of entertainment is on offer in the hotel and loud music, especially from the Café del Sol opposite, could cause a problem on all floors and the bin men arrive at 6am – so we only had about 6 hours sleep a night . Calla Millor is extensively developed with many large hotels, but one reason we chose to stay here was to visit the nearby National Nature Reserve at La Punta de N’Amer – just a 15 minute stroll away and highly recommended.

Smokers are allowed to occupy the outside terrace area at breakfast which is a great shame. Would we stay here again? Probably not out of choice, but possibly out of necessity for the good disabled access.

OK hotel, clean, reasonably comfortable - all we really ask is this - it's just somewhere to put our heads down for the night. WiFi connection is very poor - found it extremely frustrating. As always in European hotels - Brits - pack your travel kettle - no way do I want my first coffee of the morning after I have showered etc and gone downstairs for the early breakfast ( we went down for 1 breakfast in 11 nights)

Stayed at Castell de Mar 5th to 12th April 2014. It was a last minute booking which we made ourselves so not with a tour company. We booked bed & breakfast only and requested a high floor, double bed and sea view. We arrived around 9.30pm and the check in was relatively quick an easy. We were directed to our room with no offer of any help with luggage - not really a problem for us as we only had two wheeled suitcases, but worth considering if you are less able or maybe have a couple of young children with all the paraphernalia you might have for them. We were given room 210 - so not a high floor and on entering we had twin beds, but we did have a lovely sea view. We considered whether to request a change but decided not to bother as we were only there for a week. As we had not had any dinner we left our luggage and returned to reception to ask where we could eat and were told the restaurant had closed at 9pm and there was nowhere in the hotel we could eat at that time of night. (We did notice on two occasions later in the week that people were eating in the bar later that 9pm - it could be they had booked half board and food was provided for late arrivals) The chap on reception directed us to a local restaurant (Bonanza) about ten minutes walk away which was excellent, so again not too much of a problem. We did try the restaurant for dinner the next evening but it was not to our taste, so didn't go back again. Also worth noting - at exactly 9pm the staff started clearing the buffet so not a lot of time to go back for seconds if, like us, you don't go for dinner till after 8pm. The hotel, as others have said, does cater more for German's regarding food and entertainment.
A couple of other points I'd like to make are;- no offer of a safe key when checking in - had to return to reception when we discovered we needed to get one - not advised of Wi-Fi code when checking in - this was only divulged at the welcome meeting we were invited to after we had been there for three days - only pizza available at the pool bar after 2pm - kitchen closed????
Although our room was very clean on arrival, the standard of room cleaning was not great, while I don't expect or even want, the maid to move all of our possessions to clean, I do expect any visible marks to be wiped and the toilet, bath and sink to be cleaned daily and also the floor swept. This did not seem to be done daily although clean towels were proved when required. There was also an issue with the bed making - not every night - it looked fine till you pulled back the quilt to discover the bottom sheet was still rumpled, not great when you only discover this when you are about to get in to bed at midnight. One other issue was the air conditioning - or lack of - we couldn't get it to work the first night so after a very hot night we reported it at reception to be told it was not turned on yet and we could only get heating at this time of year???
As a result we had to sleep with the balcony door open which was not the best as our balcony was on a flat roof so easily accessible.
Overall we would recommend this hotel, it is, on the whole, clean with comfortable beds and a fairly good sized room for two - not so sure if three people were in it - the staff were friendly and helpful, we didn't use the spa but it did look nice. The location is great, it is close to the beautiful beach, and no more than a few minutes from the shops, bus stop, bars and restaurants (we would recommend Tomeu) of Cala Millor.

Room Tip: Ask for a room above 4 or 5 as the view will be best.

We are currently staying at the castell del mar, from our first arrival the service as been superb, all the staff from the night concierge, bar staff, reception staff, to the maid are all so helpful and courteous. Nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is beautifully clean, well situated just across from the lovely beach, it's a little quieter here than cala millor centre, but we consider that to be good !! We would highly recommend this hotel to everyone and will definitely return !!

Room Tip: Most rooms have sea views, we were charged an extra £150 by tour operator for the sea view so don't pay extra ..we are in room 612 and the view is beautiful !!

We returned last Friday from a week at the Castell De Mar. Overall we had an excellent time, helped by the beautiful weather. The staff in the hotel couldn't have been nicer or more willing to please. One piece of anecdotal evidence for this concerned a hotel maintenance worker who was waiting in front of me for the lift one day. He greeted me with a cheery 'Hola' and insisted that I got into the lift before him. When we got to our floor he again insisted that I went first and then wished me a good day in Spanish.

The breakfasts offered amazing choice including fresh fruit, bread, cereals, cooked stuff, continental etc. Juice was reasonable (the cartons you get at home, not the watered down stuff that you tend to get in Italian hotels). I agree, though, with a previous reviewer that the coffee took something to be desired. The main problem being that it was rather weak.

Dinner was very good, with the highlights being the extensive salad bar and lovely desserts (including very nice ice cream and fresh fruit). The main course was fine, but the vegetables were not to our taste: tinned carrots and other vegetables that were not cooked to our taste.

Our room was bright and clean and we had a wonderful view of the Med from our balcony even though we were in a side room.

The hotel facilities were good, but we were disappointed that the steam room wasn't working during our stay.

One thing that was not an issue for us, but may be for other people, was that there were relatively few British guests in the hotel. Indeed, for our first three days we only knew of one other British couple staying at the Castelle De Mar. The number of British guests increased in the second half of our stay, but we were still in a minority.

So, to summarise, a few negatives, but overall an excellent stay.
