“Excellent hotel.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2014

Food excellent with lots of choice and a wonderful selection of sweets. All staff were very hard working, efficient and pleasant and made the hotel worthy of its 4 stars. You are right by a lovely beach and lots of shops, bars etc close by but the hotel is in a quiet location.

We had a baguette freshly made at the local shop (Francisco Spar) for lunch which was very good - the Spar on the side road down to the beach just across from the hotel.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2014

We are a family of 3 including 2 adults and a 2-year-old and we visited in mid April 2014 for a week.

Here’s what we thought:

The Flamenco Hotel is a decent hotel situated in an excellent location. The hotel is towards the south side of the Cala Millor, around 10 metres from a 2-mile stretch of white sandy beach and around a 5-minute walk to the centre of Cala Millor. It is in a quiet location despite its proximity to the centre. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. There are parts of the hotel that feel more like 3* and parts that are certainly 4*. The breakfasts are first class and include almost everything you could possibly wish to eat. It is all fresh and very good quality. We didn’t have the evening meals as we were only staying on a bed and breakfast basis, but the evening meals looked the same quality. I would recommend half-board (read below).

On the downside we stayed at the hotel early in the season and they did not bother to fill up either of the outdoor swimming pools for the first 5 days of our stay. The weather was great and the temperature above 20 degrees Celsius, so it would have been plenty warm enough to use. The hotel has an adequate indoor pool so we used that instead, although it was a shame when the sun was shining outside.

The hotel guests were mainly German and the hotel largely caters for German people, i.e. the live entertainment was in German, hotel information books are all in German, nearly all TV channels are German, etc. Indeed this is the same throughout the resort. My wife speaks German so this was not an issue, and we found the hotel and resort in general to be very family orientated and friendly. We had had concerns about the hotel not being family orientated due to previous comments on Trip Advisor. However, I can say for certain that the hotel staff and guests were extremely accommodating and friendly towards our 2-year-old.

Immediately adjacent to the Flamenco Hotel, around 20 metres from our room, there is a new hotel development being built. The workers start at 7am and finish at 6pm, 6 days a week. There is a crane in use and many plant vehicles. This causes a lot of noise and is an eye-sore. The only thing that made this OK for us is that our 2-year-old loved watching the diggers. My advice is that for any of you who will be bothered by this, call the hotel in advance to see when the work will finish and/or request a room on the opposite side of the hotel. I appreciate this building work is not the fault of the Flamenco Hotel.

The rooms are kept very clean on a daily basis, but have a fairly dated feel to them. Our bathroom sink was glued on to the sink unit and on day 5 the inevitable happened and the sink fell out (the glue gave way). To be fair, the hotel staff were great about it and had it re-glued very quickly. The worst part about the room was the tissue-paper-thin walls. They are the thinnest walls I have ever experienced in a hotel and you could hear every word the people in the next room were saying as if they were standing next to you. This is OK if you have considerate neighbours or neighbours with the same routine as you. We didn’t. We were all woken/kept awake for the first 2 nights beyond midnight. A loud knock to the wall sorted that problem. However, we had our other neighbours knocking on our wall the following night at 9.30pm as our 2-year-old was talking. So, expect some wall knocking! Our room was also very cramped and we were constantly falling over each other as there was very little floor space. The room had very good air conditioning and was kept at a pleasant temperature.

The resort of Cala Millor has a very relaxed and family feel to it. It is well kept and the locals are extremely friendly and welcoming. We were a bit concerned about the reviews saying Cala Millor had a nightlife as we wanted a quiet family holiday. However, any nightlife Cala Millor has is very low key and we did not notice it. There is lots to do in Cala Millor such as an excellent beach, beautiful warm clear water that is shallow for a considerable distance (which makes it perfect for children), a trip to the nearby Cuevas del Drach/Cuevas de Arta, a glass bottom boat trip, a 3.5 km walk to the southern headland which has a great restaurant and a small forte, cafes, bars, restaurants, horse and cart trips, a trip to Inca market, a zoo/safari (although we didn’t go as it has bad reviews), and much more. I would also recommend hiring bicycles as there is a good cycle route to nearby resorts. The main negative of the resort was the fact it was expensive compared to other parts of Mallorca, and we found the quality of food in the restaurants we visited to be extremely poor. We visited 5 different restaurants based on reviews and popularity. All steak and seafood dishes are around 15-20 Euros and upwards, which leaves you with a limited choice. Depending on the restaurant, other choices included Tapas, Paella (we tried 3 different Paellas and they were equally disgusting as each other, including ingredients such as Brussel Sprouts and large quantities of salt), Burgers, Lasagne, Spaghetti Bolognese and Pizza. The best (only good) place we ate was the Tapas at Mint Café, around a 15 minute walk north along the coast. They do excellent Tapas and apparently they have an award-winning chef. We had read good reviews about Cafe Del Sol so we ate there one night (right next to the hotel on the sea-front). It is a nice cafe in a great location. However, their food choice is Burger, Pizza or a sandwich... and that’s it.

Despite the negatives I would definitely return to Cala Millor, but I would go on a half-board basis next time. I would return to the Flamenco Hotel, but would look for alternatives first.

Room Tip: Ask the hotel if building work is on-going next door, and if it is then ask for a room on the opposi...

The breakfast buffet is much better than what you find at many business hotels and the daily cleaning is efficient and good. On the negative side is that not much sun find its way to the balcony and that you almost can't avoid to follow the conversation in the neighbor room. Good entertainments in the evening.

The hotel is situated right next to the sea and the beach, and all rooms have a view of the sea. It is wonderful to be able to hear the sea lapping the shore while you sit with the window open in your room or take the sun on the balcony. I just went here with my mother for a week's holiday at the end of the season. It was an excellent stay. The hotel is very comfortable. The staff are excellent and very friendly. The food in the restaurant is served buffet style. As with all buffets, there is a tendency to repetition. There was something of that, but there were some different dishes prepared each day. The food was usually good in quality, but there were a couple of exceptions. However, the variety meant it was possible to eat something good and varied for each meal. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The public areas of the hotel are well decorated, and pleasant to be in. I didn't use the pool and other facilities but they looked very well kept and well used. All round a very good choice.

Room Tip: Rooms on the two wings are larger and with a better view of the sea

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2013

This was our second trip to Cala Millor (last year we stayed at the Hipocampo Playa Apartments which were excellent). We had seen the Flamenco and were impressed with the hotel position and exterior presentation. The hotel is lovely and has a superb position on the sea front. The pool area and internal rooms are traditional but pleasant. The cleanliness of the reception, bar area and rooms was fantastic. We had a triple room and it was a little cramped but we managed OK, It was basically 3 single beds instead of 2! The hotel was mainly occupied by retired Germans (75-80% of people but we did visit towards the end of the season late August into early Sept). We have a 3 year old little girl so I was a little concerned about making too much noise by the pool etc, as it was very quiet, but with the arrival of what can only be described as 'the family from hell' who made so much noise and created havoc (imagine an 8 year old boy sitting on a lilo in the baby pool shouting, splashing whilst eating crisps and haribo at 9am!!) and my little one was an angel! I got the feeling that some of the guests had complained about him as he seemed to disappear to the beach after a few days, which was a relief.

The other problem we encountered was the reservation of sunbeds by the pool. The hotel have notices everywhere asking people not to do it but they never took action so it persisted. For the first couple of days it meant we missed out on getting a poolside bed but we just got up a little earlier from that point onwards and managed to get a place every day. The beach is literally 10 meters from the hotel gates and it is beautiful but it soon adds up if you have to pay for 3 beds and an umbrella daily (16 Euros per day).

We stayed on a 'room only' basis as we love visiting many different restaurants of which there are lots locally. We paid €2,579 for the 'room only' directly with the hotel. On reflection, I would recommend at least bed and breakfast. The reason for this is that the rooms do not have tea/coffee making facilities so I ended up having to buy coffees at the poolside bar daily. What we paid also makes the B&B/half board options look very reasonably priced.

The hotel manager was always visible and was charming. If he saw you arrive in the bar he sent a waiter over immediately and was always watching the numbers of people at the evening entertainment to assess popularity etc. The evening entertainment was very good and we really enjoyed certain aspects of it. Abba Night, Il Duo (bit like Il Divo!) and Flamenco dancing were good. The entertainments team worked really hard all day and night providing a kids club, face painting, walks to the local market, bicycle trips, aqua aerobics, stretching, spanish lessons etc etc. They spoke in 3 languages (German, English and Spanish) for everything and were really popular among the guests young and old.

You can hire pool towels (so no need to take your own) at 15 Euros deposit per towel which they refund when you return them at the end of your holiday and you can get them changed as you wish throughout your stay.

The housekeeping is outstanding in this hotel - our room was spotless as were the corridors and public areas and a lady was constantly walking around the hotel talking finger marks off the glass doors etc.

The pool service was mixed to be honest. During the day, they seemed to be a little under staffed which made for some long delays in drinks/lunch service. However, the food quality in the poolside bar was excellent. The evening bar was also very good and my little 3 year old little girl took a liking to the cocktails....Peter Pan and Pinocchio!!

What could they do better? .....
1. Put tea and coffee making facilities in the room
2. Don't lock the mini-bar fridge. We wanted to be able to use it it to store water
3. On arrival, give guests a drink or some fruit. We arrived at 1am and ended up having to wander to a local bar to buy some water as the mini-bar was locked, the bar was closed and there was no other facilities in the hotel
4. We needed an iron and ironing board during our stay. Instead of the receptionist offering to have it taken to our room her just handed it to us and we ended up having to carry it up and down to the 5th floor!
5. Help guests with their luggage on arrival/departure. We had 3 cases, a buggy, hand luggage and a 3 year old.....not a massive problem but would have changed my perception of the service.

Cala Millor is a lovely resort. It is very flat so you can walk down to Sa Coma and along to Cala Bona very easily and they are really lovely walks which we did regularly. The beach front is stunning.....clean, safe and home to an array of shops and bars. (In terms of restaurants then make sure you visit La Terraza del Mer which is next to the Playa del Moro hotel on the sea front. Excellent food and service. Cafe del Sol is also a good option for lunch) Running parallel to the beach front is a street filled with shops, bars and restaurants. Lots of supermarkets, pharmacies, cosmetics etc etc. There is also a hairdressers right opposite the hotel. The resort is expensive but you can find some good value places - we had lunch at the Hotel Cala Bona which was excellent value for money and a beautiful location.

So, in a nutsell - a great holiday location and a lovely hotel. If you are looking at 4 star hotels in Cala Millor then also look at the Cala Millor Park, Castell del Mar and Playa del Moro which all look lovely.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view so don't pay extra.
