“Great family hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2014

Just returned from to weeks at the Son Baulo, cannot fault the hotel, food hot and plentiful you won't go hungry. The rooms clean and spacious, cleaned daily, beds had new mattresses on them, towels changed every day and bed linen once a week. Staff were outstanding so friendly and helpful. Suzanne the entertainments manager was friendly, approachable and generally good fun, my Grandson Harry adored her followed all over the place. The beach front location is excellent for those who love the beach I prefer the pool area which was great with enough sun loungers to go round, would recommend this hotel to anybody looking a great family hotel. The evening entertainment was mostly ok didn't like all the acts, well 2 anyway kids mini disco was enjoyed by most of the kids. In will return

Room Tip: We had a pool view room but the rooms are ok.

We arrived at the Son Baulo on the 1st June. Yes the rooms are a little dated but perfectly adequate and cleaned daily. you don't go to Majorca to sit in your room at the end if the day.

Hotel spotless and standards high. Staff go out of their way to help and always smile. Suzanne is a diamond and brilliant with the kids.

The hotel is really geared to families and it has got it just right in my opinion and more importantly in the opinion of my 3yr old daughter who is having a ball.

Pools cleaned daily and the location is perfect, right next to an immaculate beach with a beautiful clean sea.

Have to say I was a bit unsure as to what we would find with some of the comments, however pleased to report in my opinion and experience the negatives are unfounded. You get what you pay for and this is great value if you consider the location, service, entertainment for the kids and the good food. No it's not 5* luxury, but it does not advertise itself as that. It is a greAt little hotel which goes out of its way to please and offers great service. Can you really ask for more?

If you are thinking 'should I?' Do it! You will have a great time.

We do not usually return to the same place twice but we will definitely return to the son Baulo.

Well done and Thankyou to all at the Son Baulo for making our stay so welcoming and making my daughter smile, laugh and have a great holiday.

Third Visit to the Son Baulo,12th May to 26th May, enjoyed again, first time have been with so many children, did make it rather noisy but lovely to see the children enjoying themselves, Thomson are great the way they look after the children, must be wonderful for the Dads and Mums ( or Grandads and Grandmums ) everything there to make children happy.
Food was good as ever!! everything very clean in our room and again all Staff so friendly and Happy....Only Moan.. wish the music in the evening was not so LOUD.. even in the "Quiet Room" was really loud...But had lovely time and will be back again ASAP......

Room Tip: High Floor, Corner Room....

My wife and I (in our sixties but adventurous) stayed at the Son Baulo Hotel in July, 2012 and had a marvellous time there so these lukewarm comments surprise us. I accept that this is another year and more on but I cannot believe that standards can have dropped as reflected by the reviews for this May. I felt prompted to write this review in sympathy with the proprietors and staff who provided us with a very satisfactory two-week holiday in 2012. Perhaps it was on account of the weather. We found our room spacious and with a balcony and fine view over the pool, with something of the beach and the river alongside. We may not have found the beds ultra-comfortable but with a little alcoholic sedative I am unable to recall any great discomfort

For our part, we found the reception staff really great and the kitchen staff were little short of magnificent and had a good sense of humour. One cook was an Italian and another, Curro, reminded me of the England football team’s former Italian coach, Fabio Capello. There were available combinations to suit anybody. In general, the food was varied and delicious and far in excess of what I would expect for my everyday meals so what more do you want?.

The entertainment was very good in general, with variety and of professional standard for the most part. During our two weeks, we enjoyed Moroccan/Turkish belly dancers, Cuban pop, a gifted Russian double-jointed gymnast and Flamenco dancers among other acts that may have been slightly less exciting or excessively loud.

In any case, we had some great outings with 'No Frills'excursions eastwards to a winetasting bdega and the resort of Cala Rajada, and later to Maria de la Salut, Benissalem, wine tasting at Cala Nova Bodega and a barbecue at a Mallorcan finca or country house estate, the Tram, Train and Boat trip to Port-Soller and Soller, and the free 'Blanket Trip' to Palma as well as finding our own way around to Port d'Alcudia, Pollensa and Palma. Having said this, it was a great advantage to have a fine, safe beach that you just walked onto, to be able to walk along the coast to the ancient necropolis, and to enjoy bars in the Son Baulo locality that were cheaper than in the main part of Ca'n Picafort. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable walk along the board-walk esplanade to Ca'n Picafort and to use the beach there also. A bus stop was up a street just opposite the hotel which was useful.

Albeit belatedly, I would say to the management that we appreciate their hotel even if others have been turning their noses up lately and, believe you me, we have been to a good few hotels all over Spain over the years! it is an ideal beach location about two miles from the main tourist area but we enjoy stretching our legs a bit!. In fact, we are returning this September for a late summer week's half board vacation. Get ready for us, Son Baulo!!

Room Tip: We were very pleased with our standard room 314 overlooking the pool, the river and the beach.

We have just returned from a week at the Hotel Son Baulo (May half-term week). As a family of five, we had two rooms next door to each other. One had been recently refurbished & the other was rather 1970's in décor - but both were perfectly nice & comfortable. We had not paid for a view & were given rooms overlooking the swimming pool, which was great for us but just be warned that if you like to sit & sunbathe on your balcony, the balconies pool-side are permanently in the shade so it may be worth booking a sea view or requesting a room on the other (road) side of the hotel.

Maid service is thorough and operates every day except a Wednesday. However, we were not told on check-in that we would only be given fresh towels if we left the used ones in the bath! We worked it out by Day 5, but it would have been useful to know on arrival.

The cleanliness of the hotel is superb, as is the friendliness of the staff. We found the food to be excellent - breakfasts especially with a full range of cooked, continental & cereal available. The dinner choices on the buffet typically consisted of a couple of meat dishes, something fishy, something vegetarian & something for the children. It may not be everyone's idea of fine dining to be offered nuggets & chips abroad, but when travelling with children it can be very helpful to have a choice they will actually eat! There was generally a traditional Spanish option too, and the quality of the food - whatever we chose - was excellent.

Most days we ate lunch at the poolside bar, which serves a variety of burgers, sandwiches, paninis, pizzas etc. Again, the quality of the food was very good. There is a row of gift shops & small supermarkets opposite the front of the hotel and we found it to be much cheaper to stock up on bottled water & soft drinks to have in our rooms there, than in the hotel itself.

It is a very pleasant walk along the promenade into C'an Picafort where there are many more bars, shops & restaurants. There is also a "Ting-Ting Train" which stops just outside the hotel & goes in to the main area of C'an Picafort - you can either stay on and take a 45 minute round trip around the resort or jump off at any one of 13 stops along the way and walk back. However, I would strongly advise taking the "Ting-Ting Train" in the evening when it is less busy, as there are a significant number of German tourists in C'an Picafort (but not in the Hotel Son Baulo) who simply do not 'get' the concept of a queue! Meaning, of course, that you can be queuing patiently for half an hour & still not get a seat due to being pushed out of the way by people turning up at the last minute. We had no problems catching the train at around 7pm though.

I really cannot end my review without mentioned the Crazy Horse pub just to the right of the hotel. It labels itself as a "British Pub", but do not be put off by that - Britain has nothing to compare to the owner Paco :-) He is a character not to be missed (in a good way!) and his sangria & cocktails are second to none.

Finally, going back to the Hotel Son Baulo itself, Suzanne, the entertainer works incredibly hard & is very good at her job providing activities for both the children & the adults. Evening entertainment during our stay included a reptile show (actual live snakes), a Michael Jackson tribute act, an Elvis Presley tribute act & an Abba tribute act. Although not my usual "cup of tea", I must admit all were very good.

In summary, if you are thinking of visiting the Hotel Son Baulo then please do. We all know that we are very glad we did - and when you consider that our children range from 16 to 2 - you will appreciate how hard it can be to find a holiday to please everyone!

Room Tip: If you want a shady balcony ask for Pool Side. If you like a sunny balcony book a Sea View or reque...
