“Lovely hotel,good location!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 September 2012

My husband and i spent 11 nights here at the end of August.Everything about the hotel was good, although the rooms were dated (and in need of a more thorough daily clean) they were all situated in pretty grounds. The pool and gardens were clean and tidy. The food was excellent with plenty of choice as were the drinks.Friendly staff, especially in the restaurant.Although we would not consider this to be a 4 star Gold hotel we had a very good holiday, and would recommend it to anyone.Meeting Lil and Bill from Scotland made our holiday perfect!!!!

This has got to be the worst hotel that i have ever stayed in, Dirty bed linen, Rooms were never cleaned properly , very noisey if you are overlooking the swimming pool, staff were very rude, especially the reception staff, We paid an extra £100 to have a suite all you get for this is a bottle of the cheapest champaygne and a bowl of fruit. the couple we went with on holiday had the normal room , they had a shower / bath / bidet, we had a shower!!
The bar staff do not know how to smile, and the hotel looks like a prisoner of war camp and is also run like one.The food is o/k if you like proccessed meat and chips the only good thing about this holiday was coming home.

The hotel is badly in need of a makeover, i was so surprised and disappointed that i booked this hotel after reading the reviews on their website it looked as good as any other 4 star hotel but i can assure you that it should only be a maximum of a 2 star, I can only assume that the people that go their year after year and give these reviews are happy with the slap happy routine and therefore will never change the running of this hotel.

Room Tip: Do not take one overlooking the swimming pool, and do not buy a suite. but overall DONT GO THERE.

hotel is clean, pool cleaned daily, rooms are attended to daily , there were plenty of beds available by the pool when i went to breakfast at 8 o'clock and throughout the day. food in restaurant was so so . some good some not so good . beef wellington chewy like a welly. my wife said the fresh salmon was beautiful. there was always something that i could eat . the desserts were exceptional . stayed 11 nights 28th aug till 8th sept put on 1/2 a stone not bad huh. bar staff friendly talk to them as fellow human beings they worked very hard when we had the rain to accommodate the queues that were forming. thomson entertainment team also worked very hard. the evening thomson entertainment [ il divo . elvis . etc ] these are the same acts that i saw 6 yrs ago the last time i went to gold in majorca so thomson needs to think about putting on some new acts please

Room Tip: we were in room h207 . very quiet, only view of tennis court close to pool . restaurant and entertai...

No way is this a Thomson Gold Hotel, even though the prices are. The bar staff are the most unfriendly surly lot Ive ever met. I asked one guy his name he said his name is "No name" says it all. The all inclusive is 11am to 11pm, my husband went for 2 waters he was told to come back in 2 minutes as its 2 minutes to 11am! I ask you! The gardener does his job around your sunbed, blasting dust and pine needles all over you, he turned the sprinklers on and drenched people and towels, he then gets on a petrol mower and cuts the grass, I did complain to the manager about the sprinkler and to the Thomson rep about him blowing dust at us, she said the man has to do his job I said its 10:30am and the pool opens at 8am!!! Now the good things the restaurant staff are brilliant at their job all done with a smile, anything to oblige, the food is very good, something for everyone.Maid service is very good rooms very clean and they smile!
The reception staff, (english girl not included) are just not friendly theres no smile no eye contact, get rid of you as fast as they can! And last of all the entertainment by the reps is dire one quiz lasted 1hour 30 minutes! I would not go back to this hotel or area again, beach is substandard I could go on but wont!

Room Tip: Dont book a room facing the road, it's very noisy!

I made a mistake. I admit it. I didn't realise that the "Gold" Thomson refer to was the age of their target guests. I wanted to treat my son for finishing college and me for working so damn hard this year so selected a 4* Gold hotel expecting a damn good holiday. Shame really …..

This is a hotel set up for those of a very mature age so don't be fooled by the "nobody under 16" - that should say "majority over 60". And as for 4*; never in a million years. The food was bland / cheap / unappetising most of the week (breakfast particularly poor) – I admit once a week they have a theme which was good, but decent food once a week? Seriously? The pool and grounds were nice enough but the entertainment – well, I felt for the 2 entertainers, they had to work for the crowd. But the daytime entertainment was pretty lame. In the evening you had a set menu of entertainment: quiz, followed by bingo (quick Mabel, get your dabber out) followed by hotel resident band followed by guest. The guest-slots were actually alright (although the comics still lived in the 1980’s) but by the time they came on you had generally lost the will to live. And the stage was indoors, at the far end of the room so if you wanted to sit outside (doesn’t everyone on holiday?) then you need binoculars and had to put up with the smokers. Apparently the locals had complained when the entertainment was outside which was why they held it indoors. But the hotel across the road had an outdoor stage and noisy (fun!) entertainment most nights…. The rooms are pretty standard but if you want anything above standard then you pay a premium. This is a 4* hotel remember; how many 4* hotels have you stayed in where you pay extra for comfort?

I could go on but suffice to say, if you are mature of age and outlook then you may enjoy this hotel. If you’re not then this isn’t a 4* hotel; the food is poor; the cleanliness is OK at best; the level of staffing was poor; the entertainment OK; and the resort is Blackpool with sun. I love Majorca and have spent most of my holidays there; generally staying in 3* hotels that are significantly better than this hotel. A pretty poor holiday actually but I’m feeling depressed just writing this so don’t want to go on….

Room Tip: To get a good room, select another hotel.

This was our fourth visit to this hotel. Our last visit was in 2008.

We are surprised by some of the more negative reviews. We agree and find the more postive comments very detailed and accurate. The hotel is peaceful, despite the option of constant entertainment. We find that you can join in, or find your own quiet space. It is very clean, the food is of a good standard and the staff are friendly and hard working. The entertainment team, Deano, Stacy and co, are very likeable and hard working. The entertainment is varied and more suited perhaps to the over 40s. However, there are local bars (we recommend Scandals Happy Hour which runs from 7pm until midnight and beyond!) and lovely walks along the seafront a few minutes from the hotel.

One night I had smoked salmon as a starter with salad and beef wellington for my main course. I really wonder where I would go locally in England for a meal like this and what it would cost?

I agree that the problem might be comparing hotels and holidays. They are all different and we are all looking for different things. We go back to this hotel for the relaxing atmosphere and excellent staff. When we are looking for something different we select another type of venue.

We agree that the noise emanating from the entertainment can seem to consume the whole hotel but why does it have to be so loud? It would be just as enjoyable at a reduced volume. Entertainment Team - please note! We thought the Phil Collins tribute act was excellent but too noisy (we are in our 50s but love our music) while ex-Brummie Graham Powell, who used to be the compere at the Night Out in B'ham and now lives in Alcudia, is an excellent entertainer. However, there was a sound problem with him. We missed a lot of what he said (very muffled) but great singer though.

The hotel offers very limited TV channels in the bedrooms - CNN (what a bore!) FOX (why?) and Sky News. Most English channels are available via a card available at reception for 2.5 euros per day. Why? Not impressed, and didn't come across any guests who had taken up this option.

Overall though, it's a very well done to all the staff at Picafort Park! We would return without hesitation.

Having been a Thomson gold customer for a long time, I have to say that this hotel is not what we would expect for the price of a gold hotel. The grounds and pool are lovely, although tended to turn into a bit of a bug soup with all the insects that decide to dive in. But the hotel itself is very dated, the rooms look tired, and I found the bar staff to be at the very least stand offish, and bordering on rude.I have to agree with the other reviews, that the area is a disappointment, with a fairly repetitive evening stroll into the area mainly populated by eastern European and German holidaymakers. The restaurant was OK, but with a very limited variety, apparently since the hotel went all inclusive. We found something nice to eat from the selection every time we ate in there, but we did eat out a few nights.Would I go back, in short no, come on Thomson, you need to sort out what all inclusive actually means, either go back to half board, and people will know that they have to buy the drinks, or go all inclusive proper, charge a bit more, and include all the premium drinks.until then, sorry, but we are voting with our our feet, and going to try for somewhere a bit more value for money. To all of the staff who worked very hard to make everyone happy, Pedro, Victoria, Lesley, and our chambermaid, well done, a credit to the hotel, to all the others who quite frankly made it look like a real effort to even speak to the customers, sorry guy's but we can do better elsewhere.

Room Tip: We stayed in d block on the top floor, sun all day on the balcony, but gets hot in the afternoon, bu...
