Africamar Aparthotel
Reviewed 19 September 2013

Hi, stayed here 2nd week in September with my better half, and booked after reading a lot of previous reviews.

It's ideally situated for the shops, bars and cafe's, which are right outside the hotel, and the beach, which is approx 200m away.

First impressions were good, but, unfortunately, they didn't last. Our room (315) was large and airy, but was in desperate need of refurbishment, had paint peeling off the walls, and damp marks where a small river ran down a wall during a heavy thunderstorm. The beds were metal fold up ones, the towels and blankets had seen better days, however, they were clean. The bathroomwas also tatty, the toilet brush was completely yellow and the shower head leaked. (Tried to get this fixed, but was still broken 7 days later)

The staff are all very friendly, and the public area's are all reasonably maintained, however, I'm a little perplexed as to the number of 4 and 5 star reviews by other people. I found the hotel tatty, noisy, especially at night, and hot.

The bar/cafe and reception are often manned by the same member of staff, there's no entertainment, no air conditioning (I knew this before booking) or wi-fi. (Vinicus cafe over the road has wi-fi, if you can receive it, the password is 'MALLORCA').

Lots of previous praise for Trotters bar directly across the road, however, I found it loud, the manager a little pushy, and the 'Carling' tastedexactly like the local lager, just more expensive.

This hotel is by no means a complete dump, but, I don't think it's as good as a lot of previous reviews make out. As long as you know what you're getting into, it's OK. Not 'Excellent', or even 'Good', just OK. If it was any more expensive, I'd rate it 'Poor'

The resort itself is a lovely little place, and I'd consider returning, but, not to this hotel.

Room Tip: Try to pick one at the back of the hotel. It's noisy from the front and side, as it's right...

Just returned from a week at this hotel. On first impressions it looks good and staff where attentive. We arrived at half 11 at night so just ate at hotel as we were so tired and hungry. I wouldn't recommend Chillax for a meal, only bad meal i had all of the holiday. Our room was clean, if a little sparce and in need of an update, rather tatty. The beds where not bad but old and only 1 pillow which was flat as a pancake. no air con and being on the strip side of the hotel meant i never got a decent sleep, neither did my partner. there is a kettle in the room but you need your own coffee etc. I would not return to this hotel but i did think the location was excellent, it was not up to the ratings it has. oh and the maid service wasn't good either. every other day and that was just clean towels and bed made. Expected better all round really. No chance of a sunbed coz towels on them even very early in the morning. it's not a very big pool and it's not private either. no space between sunbeds makes it awkward to get up or down. Go down strip to pubs and cafes, most are good. loved the resort but not the hotel.

Stayed for a week at the beginning of September, arrived at around 1:30am and were greeted by the receptionist who quickly checked us in and told us our room was on the fourth floor. We all crammed into the lift which barely fit the 3 of us in with our suitcases in (watch out as if other people are pressing the buttons on other floors the door to the lift will shut onto you as you're walking in). Upon entering our room, we were pleasantly surprised as we had booked room only but had a small kitchen in our room which was fully equipped with microwave, kettle, saucepans, cutlery, glasses, croquery and frying pans. We had one living room area with two sofas that were also to be used as beds when there were more than 2 people and a tv with 2 English channels. There was an adjoining bedroom with a double bed an en suite. Both rooms had balconies which were big enough for a plastic table and two chairs on each. The shower and tap in the sink had pretty poor water pressure, and the toilet and shower broke on occasion however these were quickly repaired once reported. The rooms were pretty dated, but were big enough. Our room was 'cleaned' on a few occasions but only once could you tell the room had been properly cleaned other than new towels and the beds being made. All that said, you get what you pay for, the staff are friendly, there's free wifi in the reception area and the pool area is clean. The sun beds are packed in together very tightly (you can only get off them by climbing off the bottom of them) but you're lucky if you can actually get one. I was up at 8am most mornings and there were already towels reserving every bed even on days that it was cloudy / raining! As is usually the case, many people who reserved the beds didn't turn up until mid afternoon! Think the hotel should really implement a policy on this.

As other reviews have said, the main road is noisey but there is no air con,it's all dependant upon personal preference, but I found hiring the fan a necessity as it was extremely warm. I am by no means a light sleeper but with the door open, it is very loud.

The hotel is in a fantastic location right at the top of the strip and opposite trotters bar (a must visit) and a 2 minute walk from the beach.

All in all, the hotel has its flaws but for the money paid, you can't go wrong.

Just got back from a 10 day stay at Africamar Hotel with my wife. On arrival we were quickly and with no fuss booked in and given our room key, our room was on the first floor on the corner of the hotel so we had a view of both the pool and of the main strip that lead to the beach.
The rooms was very clean and tidy with plenty of room for both our clothes to be hanged up ( usually we`ve only found about 3 or 4 hangers in the room but there was loads), there was plenty of clean towels which were changed atleast everyother day.
At night the temperture was still in mid 20`s so the rooms were pretty warm but we just left the patio doors out,Yes there was some road noise and noise from other holidaymakers but nothing too bad to be honest.
We found that a lot of the people staying at Africamar were repeat stayers, one couple had been holidaying there for the last 17 years which is testiment to the staff and owners of the place itself.
Both the staff and owners were very friendly and would offen speak to you as you passed by.
We found a few nice places to eat while there, Trotters bar did a nice Full English Breakfast for 5 euro and Steak for 9 euro, Vinicious restaurant also did a lovely chicken fillet for 7.5 euro.
Drinks wise the hotel and Chillax bar below only charged 2 euro a pint, also The Red Lion which is run by to great english lads charged the same 20:00 - 22:00. We often popped in there at night after walking along the beachfront towards the old lighthouse where you`ll find a little night market.
This was our first holiday to anywhere in Spain for around 10 years after spending our time visitng the Greek Isles and we really enjoyed it to the extent that we are looking at booking up for next year and taking the family along this time.

Just back from a week long stay in Africamar in C'an Picafort with my girlfriend (both 27yo) and overall we had a really great stay. There are both positive's and negatives regarding this hotel..

Positives:
*Great location - It is situated on the main strip, 5 minute walk from the beach. Plenty of nice restaurants and bars to choose from.
*Friendly staff - Spanish bar staff were very friendly, polite and helpful throughout the duration of our stay.
*Entrance/Exit and Bar area - Really what I expected after reading the reviews, nicely set up. The bar area is very open to the front of the hotel and pool area and is very relaxing and cool as night.

Negatives:
*Rooms - Below average. Not clean really, no tv remote or sound in the tv. We had booked a double room so we had our own kitchen area but we didnt use it as it didnt look very appealing or clean. No forks of knives just spoons. Shower was very weak so showering was difficult. Cleaner was a spoon. Biggest issue with room was no air conditioning - it feels like a high powered sunbed even at night.
*Pool area is small, with too many sunbeds for the amount of people who would fit round it comfortably - so you are essentially lying on top of strangers if you choose to use them.
*No one at reception to man passports which are kept for 24 hours, and so fourth.

That being said - if it had air con, would definitely have rated this hotel higher because of the positives I mentioned.

Suitable for young couples, families and older folk.

Recommended restaurants - Vinicious, Monaco, Steak House
Recommended bars - Some american western themed place which I can't remember the name to, shipwrecked, trotters.

Not recommended - taking a cocktail glass from the Skau disco, granted not ideal but the owner was for swimming digs. <3

(Don't use the lift in this hotel as I might be in there and it's known to be an awkward affair)

We chose the hotel based on cost not knowing the area at all.. Upon arrival the patio doors were broke, these were fixed immediately and we were given a couple of fans free for the week as a way of saying sorry.
Even with fans the rooms are like ovens on a night, air con is Definatly needed here when warm, I fixed the shower head myself but new ones wouldn't go a miss really.. The rooms themselves and kitchen facilities are fine, only strange thing was there was a door to the next room in our room.
The pool area is clean and even though it's on a main road the traffic noise didn't bother us.
Staff at the hotel friendly and helpful.. There favourite saying was " we are at work you are on holiday" and they would insist on bringing your drinks to you even if the table was 5 metres away..
The big plus for this hotel is "location" it is in the perfect spot at the top of the main strip down to the beach front.. On a night time it's buzzing with activity...
All in would I stay here again---- YES...!
