“Another fabulous holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

After a great holiday here last year we decided to come again. We were not disappointed. As last year the hotel was spotlessly clean both in terms of general areas, pool and room. Room had very large balcony which had a super sea view, sunny in the morning and in the shade during the heat of the afternoon. The only complaint was the charge for sun loungers for your personal balcony 7€ a day, (minimum 3 days.) Decided to give that a miss as there was a table & 2 chairs. All the staff were again very helpful and polite especially on the front desk. The hotel caters mainly for the older person which was fine for us, but might not suite the younger generation. Will no doubt return some time in the future. Trouble is you tend to put on weight with all the fine food available.

Room Tip: A sea view room is a must. We have been on both top floor and second floor which has (larger balcony...

The Alicia Hotel is a very nice hotel and offers an excellent standard of service . The staff were very friendly and were always pleasant to ensure your stay is enjoyable, there is a very good selection of food for your half board stay which should appeal to all diners.
As usual with all holidays there was the usual rush to put your towels out in the morning, but there always seemed to be enough sun beds for the late arrivals and the pool area was very nice, although despite the warm climate the pool was chilly which was surprising.
The resort of Cala Bona is a family orientated resort with a nice harbour and pleasant walks along the seafront.
I would reccomend this hotel and the area .

Room Tip: All rooms seemed to have a high standard and I understand the Hotel will undergo a refurbishment rea...

I read a few review before we came her and am still a little unsure what bugged some of the bad reviewers.
The rooms were pleasant with good size balconies and bathrooms. There was a safe which was large and usable (charged). Flat screen TV was available with plenty of English speaking stations (remote control was available against deposit). We hired a fridge which also lets you keep the air con going when out but we generally turned it off. The air con was superb. Lifts were small but worked and stairs were wide and not too much hard work. I never did find the gym but did not try too hard.
The reception staff were always polite and always friendly when not rushed off their feet by 10 incoming rooms all of whom wanted to book in now.
The food was good - not high end restaurant standard - but good. There was a massive salad bar - we stayed a week and I could have had a different salad at every meal had we stayed a fortnight. There was an equally large hot food buffet and again, I did not have the same thing (except at breakfast - during my stay. There was always a cooked meat dish, a cooked fish dish, fried fish, fried meat and a roast. There was an adequate fruit and cheese board, a more than adequate selection of sweets, rolls, and soup. Most people seemed to stuff themselves happily silly.
Table service was good and friendly, though I must say that I am deeply disappointed at the rude way that many guests treated the staff. Hats off to the staff for keeping pleasant and friendly despite the attitude of too many guests.
I believ the hotel is due a refurb and upgrade to Thomson Platinum this winter, so hopefully the adequate but not wonderful beds will be replaced.
Oh, and there are plenty of sunbeds around the nice pool.
I ;loved the place and would recommend it.
There were some things that would put some folk off: you can here the singers from the Atalon down the road - mostly they are OK and can be taken woith a glass of wine on the balcony.
The entertainer, while working very hard, was not the most scintillating and Bingo at 9PM most evenings sent us out for a stroll along the promenade instead.
Other evening entertainment acts were 50% OK and, at the end of the day, you can always walk down the road and have a drink and watch the entertainment elsewhere.
If you want a beach, Cala Millor sands are 20 minutes stroll away or quicker if you ride the little road train.

Room Tip: Go high with a direct sea view

This was our 3rd visit so we knew what to expect. As always Staff fab and Hotel spoltess. Our only usual gripe was the Restaurant BUT we heard a Refurb is on the way . Some rooms to be altered, the POOL to be relocated on the roof, (our personal favourite) the DINING ROOM to be expanded and made easier to move around YEAH! what good news for guests and staff. We hope a good job is done on repairing the outside of building and rooms overlooking that gorgeous seaview.
Sadly we could not attend the invitation meal as one of us cannot eat red meat
We noticed that menu did not change all week, that was disappointing for us.
We do hope all goes well for Hotel Alicia and ALL the lovely staff who work so hard. It should be very glamorous when complete. GOOD LUCK!

Room Tip: Ask for seaview especially if you like to watch a sunrise.

Just returned after 10 nights at the Alicia. Sea view room on the 5th floor great views. First visit, very friendly hotel spotless, high standard of hygiene. Staff very helpful and friendly at all times. Good choice of food at breakfast and evening meal. Special mention to Sergio the restaurant manager and Manuel for fabulous service. Plenty to do in Cala Bona and surrounding area. Beds a bit hard but apparently they will be upgrading next year. All in all a fab holiday. Guests created issues with sun beds queing at 7:00 am in the morning to claim their beds tables and chairs!!

We have just spent a lovely sunny 7 day holiday at the Alicia (27th June till 4th July). There are lots of positives but want to start with the negatives:

This is NOT an ideal hotel if you are between the ages of 20-65. We are in our late 30's and we were looking for a hotel which were not overrun with rowdy drunken louts at 2.30am or full of kids. However this hotel was focused on those who are in their "twilight" years, especially the entertainment. We went to the bar twice in the evening and left after 15 mins as we were so bored and felt very out of place. There is a hotel opposite on the beach which had more energetic acts (the elvis tribute was fantastic!) as well as several restaurants near the harbour (5/10 min walk) with a more lively and varied acts/singers. The only other negative comment we have is the beds were very hard and uncomfortable but as previous reviewers have stated, the hotel is being revamped and we have been informed the beds are being changed as well.

There have been comments about sunbed blockers and this is true that 80% of the beds were taken up by 7am, however we did see management go around and remove towels if unoccupied for more than an hour and there were always sunbeds available, but this normally means you wont have an umbrella. We were on the solarium most times as it was quieter, had direct access to the Jacuzzi and gave a great pool view (great if your a people spotter). Oh and you can only use the pool between 10am and 6pm due to safety but as the sun was there till at least 8pm thinks that this should be extended.

Oh and as other members have stated, the bar staff need to cheer up a bit. They were not rude but nothing which could not be improved with a smile and for them to relax a bit with customers.

You have to pay for drinks in the evening with your dinner but the prices are very reasonable and we had a bottle of water (fairly large) on our table for €2.00.

You have to pay for a fridge (€20 for the week), remote for the tv €5 but is refundable upon your checkout (we just used the buttons on the side of the tv so didn't bother), the safe is €2/day but if you can get all items for a discount package. Again have been informed that these will be included in the price after the refurb.

Now the positives (and there are a lot of them ..):

The staff make this hotel. From the cleaners, reception, the cooks, the waiting staff and a very special mention to Serige head restaurant manager, who all went out of their way to help you. They all had a smile (and this was a genuine smile not a fake, give me a tip smile) and always said hello. Their moto must have been clean it once, clean it twice and then if not sure clean it thrice as this hotel was spotless.

The food was buffet style and whilst we were there we had plenty to choose from and my husband is rather fussy. The breakfast was great, English, continental, made to order omelettes, fruit you name it, it was there. Diet went completely out the window but who diets when they are on holiday! I admit the food was very similar every evening but there was a gala dinner on Thursday which had more Spanish food and they always had 1 or 2 dishes which had a Spanish twist. There were so many restaurants in cala bona or a little further up in cala millor if you wanted something more traditional. We did go to the al a carte restaurant on our wedding anniversary (you get to go there for one evening during your stay) and we actually preferred the food in the main restaurant. We were allowed to take the food from their to the al a carte restaurant so we could enjoy the view.

There is wifi which you can use in the lobby/bar area and even managed to get signal in the pool area (but admit it was on the side near the stage). However you should not be going on holiday to be on the internet. It was totally free to use and reception give you a free password.

If you buy a postcard for home, buy from reception. They were the cheapest around!

We had a corner room (201) sea facing and it was amazing. We had plenty of storage, hanging space and the bathroom was fine. I am a larger lady and was slightly worried about a review I read about the loo and elbow room but I was fine and there was plenty of room in the bath/shower. Could have done with a light above the bath for when the shower curtain is closed it becomes slightly dark but the shower is powerful enough. We also had the sun from sunrise (amazing to watch over the sea) till about 4pm. It was not loud and the entertainment from all hotels stopped at approx. 11/12pm.

There is a free book share and there were plenty of variety. The air-con in the rooms worked great.

Overall our stay at Protur Alicia was very relaxing and we enjoyed our stay. We possibly would go back but not until we are quite a bit older but please do not be put off if you are going there and are under 65 yrs old. You make the most of your holiday and cala bona / cala millor is a great holiday spot. The hotel is 99% English based and all the guests whilst we were there were friendly and not rude. Also no naked sunbathing so that was always a plus!

Things we would suggest whilst your in cala bona:

Go to Smithys in the harbour. They are great, food is very tasty and is run by a british family. It is great value and a perfect place to watch the boats or if your like me do a bit of people watching.

Stanleys tea room is fab! Just turn left from the entrance of the hotel and it is on the corner. You cant miss it as it is always full. We only had to wait 5 mins for a table but it was worth the wait and their cakes were so scrummy (again did not help with the diet).

A little further up from stanleys there is a small spar shop with a English lady and Spanish husband who make lovely subs/sandwitches and have the cheapest water/snacks/nibbles etc from any of the other shops. She does love to chat to everyone so be warned.

Next to sonnys bar (directly underneath the hotel) there is an icecream seller who is English. He serves a very large scoop of icecream for €1.50 and this will last you ages.

We hope you enjoy your stay at the Alicia as much as we did x

Room Tip: Sea facing everytime! and if possible either 201,301,401,501 to get the most sun from the day.

Just had 2 weeks holiday in the Alicia. Best hotel in the resort, friendly staff, clean and excellent food. The hotel is being refurbished for next year and I just hope it doesn't spoil the atmosphere and hope the staff and clientele doesn't change either. Fab holiday, couldn't ask for more.
