I have just returned from a week in the Bonaire with my two children aged 7 & 3, we had an excellent time :) the rooms are very spacious and clean, the swimming pool is huge, although a little cold at the moment still - the splash park with the pirate ship is great :)

Food is lovely - lots of choice every meal time, chefs very friendly.

Entertainment team are excellent, full of energy, massive thanks to....Kate, James & Natalie for being great reps and making us feel welcome x

Sara from the kids club is lovely - all in all, a brilliant team :)

Location is fab, a 5 min walk to
The little Spar shop should you need one & a 5 min taxi drive into Cala Millor

We are booking to go back again next year...

Lovely apartments with nice fitments. Brilliant pool facilities, especially for families. Overpriced restaurant. Good bar and excellent entertainment. Location is not so good .... a walk to the beach which is not the best and was not impressed with the resort of Cala Bona. Would recommend this place for families with small children. Did not get much peace in our aprtment because of the constant chair scraping in the other apartments and dining room below. (Why don't they design furniture that doesn't vibrate when dragged across tiled floors?) Specifically requested a quiet room. They put us in the block away from the childrens pool but put us in a room directly above the dining room!!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room. They seem to put all the young families in the block facing onto the children...

Returned home today after a fantastic holiday. I travelled with my two daughters, 3 and 7 and and they were both sad to leave. They were given first class attention from the Thomson staff in the kids clubs. For example, one day the times for the little ones to use the kids club would be, 10am-12pm. Then 1.30-3.30pm. Then 4-6pm! They can go to however many sessions they want which means that while they get to play, you get some 'you' time. Also, they provide 'drop-in' sessions where your child can go to kids club regardless of age instead of attending the set times ones for their age group so there are plenty of opportunities. I paid for two kids club parties, whilst there, a chocolate party that cost 7 euros and another party for 10 euros. The latter was on the Sunday night and was from 7-10pm which gave us the opportunity to go out and about in Cala Bona for the evening.

The splash pool is amazing. It can seem cold first thing in the morning but we found by the afternoon it warmed up lovely. It is suitable for all age groups and there were many little ones crawling around happily, having little boat rides in the water and the older ones running around squirting each other with water guns. There are plenty of inflatables left over from previous guests but literally a 5 minute walk to the sea front takes you to a Spar shop where you can buy these quite reasonable. It stocks most branded goods but they are not cheap, so there is a Bip supermarket advertised that isn't far away.

The main pool is great too. There are many different areas to sun bathe and there are gentle slopes as well as steps to the pool. The younger kids found these slopes great areas to play as well as a little pool for them too. Around 11.30am the entertainment team start, doing aqua aerobics and fun games in the pool. There is also a lunchtime quiz and activites for both kids and adults. They often play music throughout the day which can be quite loud and Thomson seem reluctant to do anything about it despite many complaints. So if it is peace and quiet you are after, there is a beautiful big grassy area next to the splash pool which is perfect for just lazing in the sun and also great for the little ones to play.

There is a cafe providing snacks by both pools, more choice though at the main pool and I found the quality a lot better there. You could buy a pizza there for around 5 euros that was big enough for the three of us. We went half board and had the option to upgrade to all inclusive on arrival but didn't want to. We ate out at the Rope and Anchor just on the marina and were disappointed. The main restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner was superb. At the show cooking station, we had choices of salmon, beef wellington, roast pork etc. All delicious. There is a stir-fry section where you can pick what you want every evening and the salad bar is very good. There is a little kids section which is fine but the chips are always over cooked. Right in the corner by the show cooking station is often a couple of pasta dishes that go un-noticed so have a look!

Just a note if you are half board, your drinks for breakfast, juices and tea/coffee etc are included but for dinner you get served at your table and handed a bill to pay when you leave. We often just had water which was under 2 euros for a bottle.

The apartments are exactly what you see in the brochure or on-line. Not much cooking space though but great for us as we just made tea/coffee and kept snacks. Plenty of utensils though if required and there are many more you can hire from reception including items for children, like toilet seats, push chairs etc. They really will provide everything you need. And no need to take your hair dryer as the one in the bathroom is brilliant! There is also a socket there, perfect for your straightners right in front of the mirror lol! And it is great having a full size bath too. We stayed in block 4, room 4316 which overlooked the grassy sunbathing area with a side view of the splash pool. It really was a nice room and it had the sun in the afternoon/evening.

The evening entertainment generally started around 7pm for the kids with fun dances etc and Thomson the dog made an appearance. Then at 9pm they started the adults entertainment or professional acts. All suitable for kids though and there will be many running about! The waiters serve your drinks at your table or you can order at the bar. There are some pool tables just outside and around the corner a childrens play park and soft play area, which both my daughters loved. It is also shaded too.

Cala Bona is lovely, didn't see much of Cala Millor but the beach was lovely. The main thing I noticed though was the sun disappeared behind the buildings on the sea front which meant in the evenings it could get chilly but it was dissappointing not to be able to sit in the evening sun and have a meal or drink. It is a lovely resort though, very pretty with lots of seating dotted around and little pebbly inlets perfect for paddling with water shoes and a fishing net!

Overall, it was an excellent holiday for which I would go back with or without children. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front over the reception would have a slight sea view but also look over the main road...

We have just come back from our second visit to Protur Aparthotel Bonaire. This time we went with our son and our three lovely granddaughters aged 3, 5 and 7. They absolutely loved it. One of them wanted to stay for 30 years!!!
We asked for the same room as last time and the hotel gave us the room requested in Block 4 a quieter room just right for us.
There is a gym and a laundry room.Tthe hotel is about a 10 min walk away from the village and 15 min from the Harbour.
The hotel was spotless as usual but the food was excellent couldn't fault it and they had improved the restaurant. it is the only place i am happy to eat salad and yogurts and things i wouldn't normally eat elsewhere. i saw the manager of the restaurant taking the temperature of the yogurt.and was impressed.
This time we went half board and paid when we arrived it was much cheaper than booking food through Thomsons.
The Thomsons Team who looked after the children were great- the kids really really enjoyed the clubs and the evenings and absolutely adored Thomson the dog.
if i was going to be picky the only thing the hotel could improve on is their beds - which were extremely hard,
The hotel is lovely the staff work hard to keep it as clean and pretty -. the staff are friendly and extremely helpful..Wouldn't hesitate to go again,

Room Tip: blocks 4 and 5 are quieter

Visited the Bonaire end of April/beginning of May and couldn't fault the hotel staff/facilities/Thomson staff, food, and location/weather (rained the first day though!). You get all the mod cons in the room and free Wi-Fi anywhere in the hotel with excellent reception. One point we would add is we thought that the evening entertainment for the adults started a bit late at 9/sometimes half 9 but the entertainment itself was always very good. Getting out and about into Cala Bona is also a must. We visited a different café everyday for lunch (stayed half board at the hotel) - we ate very well even on a budget. We also went on a lovely bike ride with bikes hired from the hotel to the back of Cala Bona and you get a stunning view of Cala Bona/Cala Millor and that side of the island. The hotel is primarily a family resort and the entertainment is geared to families but we still had a great holiday visiting as a couple. The evening dining in the al la carte restaurant sitting on the sun terrace was very special. We absolutely loved this holiday and I'm certain we will be visiting again.
