A small and friendly hotel - very clean, overlooking the sea. Food OK - helpful staff, but do be aware that this hotel comprises two separate buildings - one on either side of the promenade pathway. We were lucky to have a side sea view, as we were NOT in the building closest to the sea, but if you want a fabulous full sea view, ask to be in the building next to the sea - there is a surcharge for this but the view would be worth it.
The downside for us was the very loud "entertainment" every night, outside in the grounds of the hotel from 9pm to 11.30pm. Most of the singers were dreadful and there was no way you could get to sleep before midnight.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the swimming pool and sea.

We have just returned from a lovely week at the Atolon Hotel in Cala Bona. This hotel is family owned and managed and from the moment you arrive you are made to feel most welcome by the ladies in reception. The hotel is in the best location, right on the sea front with the pool area overlooking the Mediterranean, just magic.
Rooms are comfortable and clean with towels changed daily and ladies a bonus, a hairdryer which works and is by the dressing table mirror - not in the bathroom as they usually are.
The reataurant is bright and airy and there is always an excellant choice of food both at breakfast and evening meal. The restaurant and bar are looked after by Pedro and his great staff. Really great character who is always smiling and happy.
The Atolon is a little gem of a hotel and we are already planning to go back in 2012.

Room Tip: If you require lift access you should request this as the hotel is in 2 parts one with lift access a...

Had a great time at this hotel. Very clean. Basic small hotel, but with the best location in Cala Bona. The pool is practically built into the sea. Food very satisfactory for a hotel of this grade. Staff are friendly. Would recommend the hotel to anyone.
Resort has a good selection of bars and restaurants. The harbour area is well worth a visit. Cala Bona is for couples and families, none of the Magaluf crowd here. The hotel owns a bar next door that does San Miguel at 1.70 Euro a pint, and some tasty meals, with great service. Also liked The Waterfront, Bar Majorn, The Cocktail Bar, and Xaloc restaurant near habour.

The only criticism I have is aimed at the resort authorities regarding the bikes on the prom. The prom runs along the front lined by restaurants etc and is a great location for a meal or a drink. I am not anti-cyclist , as I am a keen mountain biker.. The mixture of people and bikes on the front is badly planned out here. The centre of the prom has a red painted bike track, and pedestrians walk either side of it, BUT we were nearly run over by a waiter who swerved into our path off the track at breakneck speed.
Also on numerous occasions we were nearly clipped as a 4 wheeled bike left the red lane to overtake a slower 4 wheeler, and hooted at us to move! You cannot relax fully, as you need eyes in the back of your head. One night a 4 wheeler full of Germans crashed into palm tree in front of us. No lights on the bike. Luckily all OK.

Finally, on a positive note. I would go to this hotel again, as we all loved it. It was very good value half board ( booked via Travel Republic, flew JET2) .

Just had a fantastic holiday, 7 nights in Cala Bona at the Atolon hotel. The hotel was very clean and comfortable but was very basic, what you would expect for the star rating
(3* I think!). We had booked early in the year and requested a sea view at extra cost which was worth every penny, I honestly think the holiday would not have been so good without this view. The rooms were basic but clean with air con (if a little noisy) and a ceiling fan, bathroom small and the bath tiny!! but the shower was excellent. We hired a fridge as it was unusually hot for that time of year and it was nice to have cold drinks. We had a great balcony on the end of the hotel (room 105) above the bar, which sounds not so good, but we enjoyed sitting on our balcony listening to the evening entertainment, which finished at a reasonable time, but some may not like the noise ,so maybe avoid that end of the hotel. The room was cleaned every day and new towels given. As I've said the rooms are basic but be realistic people, you are only laying your head down to sleep!! The pool area was small but you could escape people, if you know what I mean, it was kept very clean and there were plenty of sunbeds or chairs, (if you could beat the early towel brigade that is), but there was always somewhere to go. Swimming pool was a nice size and depth and ideal for that cool off dip. Alternatively if you were nimble enough to brave the rocks you could slip into the sea just down from the bar. However if its sea swimming you enjoy then the mile long white sandy beach at Callor Millor is 5 minutes away.
We ate at the hotel on the first night as we arrived in the evening and although there was a good choice, buffet food is not for us, where I realise this is the easiest way to feed so many we found the food was cold. So even though we were half board we ate out for the other nights. We enjoyed the outside bar and had drinks at different times of day and didn't find it too expensive, but as always cheaper can be found not far away.
We found the staff quite friendly but all lacking in a genuine smile and were sometimes too wrapped up in there own conversations to notice you, which we found irritating at times.
We loved it but can't help thinking that we wouldn't have loved it so much had we not had room 105, my advice, book early and you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Book early for a sea view

We stayed at the Hotel Atolon from 17 September 2011 for two weeks. I had called ahead requesting a sea/pool view and on arrival was asked to pay 14 euros per night for this luxury, which is expensive but well worth it when you see it. We also had to pay 3 euros per night to have the fridge in the room switched on which I thought a bit of a rip off to say the least. The room was clean, the view (room 114) fabulous. The airconditioning and ceiling fan were in good working order. The hotel's public areas are spotlessly clean, perhaps a little dated but had a nice feeling of quiet. The TV in the reception lounge area was on which ever channel you preferred, all you had to do was ask reception to put it on and they obliged. The dining room staff worked extremely hard and were always very pleasant. At times it was very busy but this did not stop them from having a chat and making you feel welcome. Pedro seems to run the show with regards the waiting staff, he whistled and sang as he worked. Hats off to those guys and to the maids who cleaned the rooms, they were most pleasant and provided clean towels every day the bed was changed twice in two weeks. The reception staff, I agree, could have been a tad more "chatty" and even smile from time to time, although, Linda, the English lady, was very nice and helpful.
My husband is quiet a fussy eater, he managed to find something to eat every night and so not sure if maybe the people who said the food was so bad actually went and tried it but in our opinion it could not really be faulted. It has to be said mind you that on occasions the food could have been a bit warmer. The area is lovely. The short walk to Cala Bona Marina is lovely where you can find an abundance of bars and restaurants. In the other direction you can walk all the way in to S'Illot through Cala Millor and Sa Coma which takes roughly an hour and a half and well worth it for the scenery through the rugged area where they are trying to regenerate the dunes. On the whole I would recommend the hotel if you are looking for a nice quiet area but only if you pay the extra for the sea/pool view otherwise you might end up in the other block which we were told, not as nice.

Room Tip: Sea/Pool view
