We stayed at the Sur again this September and loved it. Every year there are a few changes - this year they had a new chef and the choice and quality of food was very good. Even though this is only a 1 star hotel, a few people were moaning about the odd meal - I can't honestly think why. Every meal we had was lovely
There is still no air conditioning so if its very warm you will need to hire a fan (2 euros per night) although we didn't need one this time
The residents of the Sur and the Moreyo (the hotel over the road) tend to party until the early hours and although there is no music after midnight the rooms at the front will be noisy. It never bothered us, we just had a drink on the balcony and then went to bed, but be aware.
All the usual staff were there and they are very helpful and friendly, it's a family concern and it shows, a good atmosphere allround.
The hotel is in a perfect position in a lovely resort. We will be booking for next September again. Its a great hotel, clean friendly and fantastic value

Room Tip: Rooms at the front noisier but cooler - rooms at the back quieter but warmer!!!

I spent a 3 night break at this hotel in August and thoroughly enjoyed my holiday . The hotel was basic but clean and the room was well furnished with a fridge. My only complaint would be that the bathroom needed a complete renovation. We hired a fan which I recommend as it was very hot in August. We only had breakfast in the hotel which was fine. The hotels location is excellent and only a short stroll to restaurants and nightlife. The hotel also had a very good group playing in their lounge one evening. I would go back to this hotel only for a short break of 3 or 4 nights and I would recommend it if your looking for a budget break.

Room Tip: Rooms at back get more hours of sun so hire a fan at a small cost.

Just back from a week in Cala Bona staying at the Hotel Sur. Only 1 star but should be more. we only did B & B. There was everything you required for breakfast from dried fruit, yoghurt, fresh rolls and bread you could toast yourself. also cooked breakfast bacon, sausage, beans, tomatoes, eggs sometimes fried, poached or scrambled also boiled eggs. The cold buffet ham, cheese salami, plus croissants and cake, fruit juice and hot drinks and cereals. There is something wrong if you can`t get a breakfast from that list. Our bedroom was on the street side with a balcony to people watch, could be a bit noisy till 12 midnight due to entertainment put on by hotel 4 nights and opposite hotel the other 3 nights. Room very clean linen and towels changed regular, bathroom a litle small but workable for one. Pool and area around very nice and no problem getting sun beds. Beach is only 100 yds away. It is in the centre so plenty of shops restaurants bars and supermarkets close by. Supermarket right under hotel. Staff were all verey pleasant and friendly. Would definitely stay there again if ever in the area.

Room Tip: If you want to go to bed early ask for a room on poolside or if you have children as it can get nois...

This hotel is in a great spot in the lovely resort of Cala Bona. It is in need of a refit. The bathrooms need redoing and the beds were a bit shot at. We had a room at the back which is quieter. There is no air con but we went in September so it was not too hot. We booked room only so we ate out but our friends said the food was fine. The reception staff were very helpful. We had a thoroughly enjoyable week.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the back. The bars at the front are busy and noisy till 12pm. ask for a higher flo...

We stay Sept/Oct, the hotel was as others have said. Good value for money, plenty for breakfast. 2 mins to the sea, plenty of sunbeds. We had no complaints. Would have preferred a kettle in the room but there was a fridge so cold drinks instead. Nice walk to Cala Millor or bike ride. Can be noisy on an evening but entertainment stopped at midnight. Overall enjoyed our stay. We will return

Very clean, room cleaned daily and given clean towels,
Staff all very nice and helpful apart from the night porter who let us in on arrival just grunted gave us the key and that was all but that was the only member of staff not to be friendly,
We had room 417 which was front facing it can be a bit loud at night from the surrounding hotels but you get the sun during the day and it's cooler AT&T night, next time I would ask for pool facing,
The pool was very clean and not too busy when we were there plenty of beds a valuable.
We booked bed and breakfast but only had it on the first morning the food was okay and plenty of choice but we preferred the freedom of choice to eat out,
I would stay here again I feel it should be more than a one star hotel

Room Tip: Choose pool side it's quieter at night

It is surprising to find this is only rated as 1*. The place is centrally located on the main drag between Cala Bona and Cala Millor, everything in a straight line in either direction from the hotel and less than 100 yards to the sea front. Bars, Restaurants and Shops are right there under your nose.

The Hotel was spotlessly clean when we arrived and the lass on the check in was very friendly and helpful. The reception area leads off to the restaurant, the hotel bar complete with games tables, up one set of stairs into a quiet lounge area with plenty of sofa's and a selection of books.

We were located on in the very last room on the 3rd floor overlooking the street. In fact we were over one of the supermarkets but that is fine. There is very little noise disturbance. The room was freshly cleaned, smelling of bleach with clean bedding and towels. There is a small fridge in the room and a couple of chairs and a dresser. There is a lockable safe you can hire which is in the wardrobe.

The bathroom is quite small with a shower, very small bath (half sized) and was clean.

I suppose the missing things that make it a 1* are such things as no hairdryer in room, no tea or coffee facilities, no TV, no air con and the fact that it is still on the old fashioned key on a massive fob rather than the modern swipe card. The thing is, none of this really mattered because the room was great for what we needed it for, which was a base to sleep in.
You can hire a kettle etc, but we did not bother.

The room was cleaned daily except for Mondays which is the maids day off.

The balcony is a decent size and was a sun trap no matter what time of day and it was great to sit on sometimes and watch the world go by on the street below.

We stayed B & B, food times 8am until 10am. The food choice was plentiful with the usual cooked assortment, cold meats & cheeses, breads, small selection of cakes, cereals, fruit juices, hot drinks. We did often find there was a shortage of cutlery though but the staff worked very hard in clearing things away and replacing foods, cutlery and condiments promptly. You set your own table and clear your own table away. The fruit juices and tea/coffee was from a machine rather than fresh...but it is a 1* so do not expect the Ritz. It was a clean restaurant and the food was plentiful and tasty.

The bar is busy as it attracts people passing by. It has plenty of big screens and shows all the football...just if there are any women who have not had enough of it at home....
There is also live entertainment every other night but there is also live entertainment most nights at the Hotel opposite and you can see and hear it sat in the Sur Bar.

Prices are what you would expect from a Hotel, but there are many cheaper places in the resort.
Once again the staff are friendly and efficient. The hotel bar does snacks too like burgers/pizza etc and other things such as coffee and cake, which is good value.

The pool is quite small but the area is very clean and there was probably just enough beds for the time of year we went. There is a tennis court right next door to it but I am not Martina Navratilova and had no interest in exerting myself any more than getting of my sunbed for the occasional jump into the pool.

Overall, it was a very good holiday and the hotel does deserve a higher rating than it's 1*.
Would thoroughly recommend and will be returning.

Room Tip: 3rd floor at the front seems to get plenty of sun.
