Second year running at the Bonamar at the beginning of September and our fourth visit to Cala Bona. Despite five days of questionable weather out of the fourteen, we again thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel.
Paid slightly more this time for a full sea view and must say that it was well worth it. The room was slightly bigger and the balcony considerably so.
As mentioned in our previous review, this hotel maintains its claim to be the most friendly we’ve ever stayed in. All employees are exceptional, from the cleaners to the bar and kitchen staff, the receptionists to the management – all fantastic at how they conduct themselves. This level of professionalism is a credit to the Protur Group. Again, we’d like to mention Natalie, whose contagious enthusiasm in keeping everyone happy and entertained is a pleasure to experience.
As last year, the standard of cleanliness in and around the hotel is of the highest quality and as good as any hotel we’ve ever visited, regardless of star rating.
The food this year was also very good. Better than last year we thought, with plenty of choice and always hot.
One minor criticism, as last year, is the few guests who insist on rising at 7.00 every morning to reserve their sun beds, even though there are signs saying this is prohibited before 8.00. The reason the hotel displays this sign is so the cleaners can thoroughly clean the pool area ready for use. There are always more than enough sun beds and umbrellas to go around and there really is no need to carry on in this manner. Please get a life.
We’d like to add our comments to the countless previous ones regarding Eileen and Pedro who run the local Spar shop just outside the hotel. A wonderful couple who add to our holiday experience year after year.
Don’t usually mentioned holiday reps but would like to say that Heather, the Thomson rep was very pleasant - never pushy, but always there for help and advice when required.
So many nice bars and restaurants in resort that we can’t mention them all. We did however, enjoy several drinks at Paulas, on the promenade just along from the Hotel Alicia. Great service at reasonable prices and a perfect spot to sit and people watch.
As the beaches in Cala Bona are not the best you’ll experience and the long beach at Cala Millor is quite busy, it is well worth going to Silot or for a lovely quieter beach, up towards Los Pinos. We spent two days at each, using either the bus or the land train to get there.
Finally, a thank you to all other guests that made our stay as enjoyable as last year - especially to Sir Frank and his wife. Also a big hello to Morris and Marjorie from Widnes – we thoroughly enjoyed your company and will be looking out for David in his forthcoming TV role.
Work commitments mean we may not be able to return next year but rest assured we will be returning to the Bonamar as soon as possible.
Dave and Lindsay (Bristol)

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra for a full sea view. We prefer a higher floor.

This was our first visit to the Bonamar and won't be our last. The reception staff were very efficient and we were soon in our room. The rooms are small but very clean we didn't expect to spend much time in it so it wasn't a problem.Pool area really nice with plenty of sunbeds. The food is excellent their is always something to eat you shouldn't go hungry.
Didn't see any of the entertainment as we went out every night.Hotel is in a perfect position between Cala Bona and Cala Millor you can walk from one end to the other its nice and flat, there are plenty of bars along the way for you to stop and people watch its a very relaxing resort.Overall a fantastic holiday and will definitely be returning in the future.

Just returned from another great holiday in Cala Bona, We have stayed in the Bonamar on 7 occasions now,and all of them have been excellent. The hotel is spotless, food is excellent. There are plenty of bars close to the hotel, the Spar shop which is just along the road from it, you can get all of your Spirits to bring home, and you will find nowhere cheaper. Pedro and Ilene make you welcome as soon as you walk in the shop. Nelsons bar which is just next do exactly the same. If you want a nice quiet drink go to the Jemaican bar, which is located just offt the Harbour behind the Rope and Anchor bar. We have already booked again for next year, which will be our 11th year running. Great holiday alround.

Amazing hotel, lovely staff, food very very good (you will put on weight) sea views great entertainment (natalie is very funny and entertaining) so clean everywhere. The only small downside, people do put towels on beds at 7.30 onwards even tho out seats the hotel will remove them (they don't, one day loads of people reserved beds then went on a morning excursion getting back at 2 very annoying) and it Is a older hotel with most guest being 50s or 60s and lots of repeat visitors thinking they own the place but we ignored them and had a fantastic holiday and will go back, so be warned we will be the ones who think we own the place next time lol but please don't let this put u off this place is amazing 5 stars all the way

Must say the last review by May and Mar Lady pretty much summed the Bonamar up.Just got back from our 4th visit there and again it was very enjoyable.I must say the staff at this hotel are second to non right across the board.I must mention Natalie the entertainments girl who does a great job especially keeping all the 'regulars' in check and bossing them about, funny. We did feel this time as though the standard of food had slipped at the evening meal, just did'nt seem as much choice and not as much spanish food on the menu,it all felt too english,a little boring.I would also say that the air conditioning was not good enough,it worked, but not well enough on some hot nights
I also understand the comments about the regulars who do seem to feel that this is their hotel at times,it does'nt bother me as we too tend to keep ourselves to ourselves and are very happy with our own company but do feel some may find it intimadating,it does get noisy sometimes when people are having fun shouting across the pool to each other ,nothing wrong with enjoying yourselves but I wonder how they would feel if it was teenagers doing it and they were trying to chill out, thats no fault of the hotel though.
We did eat out a few times this time,we tried Melis Restaurant on the front near Cala Bona harbour which was very good in fact we had a drink there most nights as its such a lovely spot.We also tried Janet and Johns in Cala Bona harbour front, again very good.I would also recommend the pizza restaurant about 100 yards to the right of the hotel towards Cala Millor, nice place to eat at lunchtime looking over the sea.
These are only small negatives and the regulars thing is nothing really but I feel I'm just mentioning something that many people were discussing, would I go again?definately and most likely next year. Max.

Room Tip: I emailed the hotel the week before asking for a full sea view if possible which we got,of course pa...

We stayed at the hotel from the 7th August to 21st August after it had been recommended to us by my parents who stayed there in August 2011. We had read reviews that all the people in the hotel were old but there were people of all ages there when we stayed from 16 up to 80+.

When we arrived we were checked in by helpful reception staff and went to our room. We were given room 215 which had the tiniest balcony we had ever seen and a window from the corridor that opened onto it. We asked to swap rooms and it was no problem we just had to wait until the next day when one was free. The rooms are small and dated but they are spotlessly clean with enough storage.

We went around the pool most days and whatever time you went down to the pool you could always get two sun beds. I am guessing from what I have read on Tripadvisor that we were lucky enough to get sun beds on “millionaire’s row”. The reviews are correct in that people go back year after year. We met people that go back year after year and my parents have booked to go back. This is understandable for the quality of the hotel and the price of it. Most people there are friendly and we met lots of people there.

Natalie was off ill for the first week off our trip but was there for the second. She is lovely and does lots of activities and a daily quiz. We also played volleyball at 4pm in the pool just for fun with other guests at the hotel.

The food was lovely, we could always find something to eat, some nights there are more choices to pick from than others but we always ended with a plate full. Yes there is pork but there are other choices of meat. The cakes are lovely and there are always 4 types of ice cream. For breakfast there was also a wide variety from cold meats, donuts, English breakfast, cereal, pancakes, fruit etc. My only complaint about breakfast is that I don’t drink hot drinks or milk and the fruit juice was disgusting from the machines, so I didn’t have a drink until we walked to the supermarket after breakfast.

The hotel is located right on the front promenade which has lots of bars and restaurants on. We walked right from one end to the other most nights.

We went to a bar called Brother Bears for lunch and also to the Spar supermarket which is owned by Eileen and Pedro. They are a lovely couple and are very entertaining. Pedro makes lovely sandwiches and we got two sandwiches and two drinks for 5 Euros – bargain.

We had a lovely holiday. Reading some previous reviews I was worried before going about sun beds, pork etc but we had a really relaxing holiday and would return.
