We have just had a fabulous holiday in a really good hotel. The hotel is clean, well presented and the staff are really pleasant. The view from our room was also beautiful. Entertainment was every night and something for everyone. The food was beautiful and plenty of it . We had a superior room with a kettle and cups but that was all so you have to buy the and coffee or take it with you, also the soap, shower gel was never replaced but these are really a minor gripe and everything else was fine. We also wanted a nearby beach but unfortunately the sand has gone so it wasn't very nice at all but that of course is no fault of the hotel. Would we go again, most definitely but maybe not for a couple of years. Perfect for the older person.

I went to this part of the island 43 years ago and stayed in the Lavente Park which is just along the road from the Cala Bona. But as I loved the little harbour of cala bona I thought we would stay in the said hotel. We loved its charm and the actual hotel is very clean and light. The staff are very helpful and the food is very good. Considering how many people they have to cater for if people complain they should try and cook for that many and see how they do. There was always a good selection. The entertainment is also good, some you like some you don't you can't please everybody. There is a luggage store and a shower for late check outs free of charge which you rarely get in hotels. The area of cala bona is very good for resturants and bars no shortage. The walk to cala millor is very pleasant and pretty. Any one who complains or picks holes should go somewhere else and see if they get the same value fir money.

Room Tip: The boat is a good price for the trip. Also try the Jamica Bar at the end of the road not on the se...

We have just returned from a 7 day holiday to the Hotel Cala Bona, Cala Bona, Majorca. If you like all things English, this is the place for you. We travelled with Thomson Holidays, but at this Hotel, this was a disadvantage as you only felt welcome if you had booked directly with the hotel. Most of the other guests were returning customers and were on first name terms with the staff.

On arrival at the hotel we stated that we had requested a pool view room in the Main Building (there are several annexes to this hotel, some not always in the near vicinity), but the Reception had no knowledge of this request. The Thomson staff in the travel shop back in England told us to go into the shop a couple of weeks before we travelled and they would send an email to the hotel with our request. This obviously got lost in the ether as no record of this was found. We went up to the room allocated and found it to be very dated, and overlooked on all sides with other apartment balcony's. The only view we had was of the sky! It also had a very musty smell and very small single beds. We immediately went back to the Reception and asked for an upgrade which we would happily pay for. The Receptionist (a very frosty Scottish woman), said we could go onto a waiting list with about 10 other people but as we were only there for a week, thought it highly unlikely we would be successful so told them not to bother. A few days later we were talking to a newly arrived lady who had been going there for years and who was only booked in for three days, who told us the hotel had offered her a Suite which she had turned down and now had been offered a corner Sea View room which she accepted, at no extra charge!!. Where did Reception suddenly find this vacant room? A little bit biased towards direct bookings I think!

Now, the hotel is very clean, the food not bad but little choice given. The entertainment was exceptional... but the downside was that the main bar was open to the public, therefore, unless you went to dinner very early, it was virtually impossible to get a seat in our own hotel! The only way to secure a seat it seemed, was to buy a drink before dinner and leave on the table with a beer mat over the top to secure your table for later ( this was observed on a number of occasions).

The average age of the guests was 70 plus, this is not a criticism as my husband and I are 64 plus, but just an observation for other travellers to bear in mind.

Cala Bona is really nice and the Hotel in a lovely position on the harbour, but again I must say very geared towards the English tastes. The promenade is great for people with mobility problems as it's very flat, and a wonderful walk by the sea.

We did enjoy this holiday but felt very much like second class citizens at this Hotel, and a little bit like outsiders, not members of the "club". Calla Millor is much less anglicised so would probably go there on another occasion or to Sa Coma just along the coast.

Room Tip: In hindsight, would have booked a sea view room, but as it was a last minute second holiday, didn...

My wife and I spent a week at the Hotel Cala Bona, 30th April to 7th May and thoroughly enjoyed it. We booked a standard room with sea-view, and on arrival the receptionist told us we had been given an upgrade for free, we were given room 453. This sounded like a good deal until the porter took us to the room. It was in the La Pergola block right on the roof, and to get to it you have to get out of the lift on the third floor, go through a fire door and up a narrow flight of stairs. The room has no view to talk of as it is at the back of the building and the large roof terrace has all the ducting of the hotel block running across it. To see the sea you have to walk across the roof terrace and look over a wall. Being on the roof the terrace has the sun all day, is large and very quiet, if you like to sunbathe all day in peace & quiet then this room would be ideal, however my wife did not feel safe so we went back to reception and asked to be moved, we were offered another room in the same block on the ground floor with a sea-view and this was perfect. It was a junior suite with a separate lounge and a large balcony that looked out directly onto the harbour and was perfect for sitting on in the morning either watching the world go by, or chatting to passers by. The suite was lovely and clean with air conditioning/heating, beds were reasonably comfortable (a lot better than some) bathroom was nice and the shower was like a mini wet-room with a door. The lounge area had a settee with a pull out bed a nice table and chairs, fridge, kettle, cups, plates etc. and a flat screen TV. In the dining room you are allocated a table which you keep throughout your stay, we have not seen this before, at first it seemed an odd thing to do, however it works really well as, no matter what time you go for breakfast or dinner there is no one wandering around looking for a table which gives meal times a relaxed feel. The food was excellent with plenty of choice and really good service. All the staff in the hotel were friendly, relaxed, attentive but not intrusive, they all seemed genuinely happy to be there and nothing was too much trouble. Entertainment in the bar area (which is in the main block on the harbour) was the usual mix of good to not so good with bingo being on before the entertainment starts. The bar/entertainment is open to anyone, and as a result gets crowded and seating is hard to find, there are plenty of seats outside if you can't find one inside. Service in the bar and terrace area is good, efficient and friendly and one nice touch is anyone sitting outside on the terrace is offered a blanket to use in case they feel chilly in the evening/night-time. The pool is on the first floor of the reception block and gets the sun most of the day. It is not an overly large pool area and in the peak season could get a bit crowded, there is a small bar and seating area and the guy who runs it (Mikey) is always happy. Cala Bona itself is a relaxed quiet resort with plenty of bars and restaurants and a couple of small beaches. If you want a larger beach and more nightlife then Cala Millor is a short walk along the promenade. If you want to go further afield the bus stops are in the road behind the reception block, although regard the timetables as a rough guide to when the buses will be there. We arrived just at the right time as several guests at the hotel had experienced lousy weather the previous week with lots of wind and rain, we arrived the same time as the good weather and it was nice and sunny for the whole week and getting hotter by the day. Apart from the minor hiccup with the room allocation we would not hesitate in recommending this hotel, although, as always I recommend paying a little bit extra for a sea-view.

Room Tip: Make sure you book a sea-view room, otherwise you could end up looking at a wall from your balcony.

Had read that the drop off for this hotel was down a side street, however once inside the reception, we were dealt with promptly, albeit we had to wait 1 hour for our room to be made up.When we returned one of the other receptionist recognised us and told us the room was now available. We were on the 2nd floor above reception, I had requested a quiet south facing room, and although we did not have a sea view( which cost extra) we had a lovely morning/afternoon sunny balcony, which was quite large. The room was big, the bathroom was well laid out, and what stood out for me was that everything was spotlessly clean. The food in the restaurant on floor 1 above reception, was very good with many choices, and a table allocated for you throughout your holiday so no waiting around. We had two rainy days when we were there, and the bar was packed on those nights. In fact if you did not go to early dinner 7.oclock, then straight into the bar area, where bingo and entertainment was held, you were not able to get any seats, as I understand the hotel bar is open to non residents, who come for the bingo, entertainment etc. The view of the hotel is of the Superior rooms, which overlook the pretty harbour, but these are located above the bar, and I would expect noisy, as the bar is open until late. The rest of the hotel is located above reception, another part adjoining the main hotel and two further annexes ,one of which is some 300 yards along the harbour. When it rained guests were coming to dinner with coats on, but should not put guests off as this only happened in the inclement weather. All in all we had an enjoyable week, and congratulations to the Management and staff for a very well run hotel.

We spent a week at the Cala Bona hotel in April 2013. It is rated 3 star so we weren't expecting luxury ! However it was a super hotel and well worth at least a 4 star. We had lovely spacious bedrooms with views over the little harbour. We had an allocated table for all meals and the food was excellent! Well done. Cala Bona!

Room Tip: Worth paying for a sea view.

My Husband and I stayed for 7 nights in this Hotel. Discounting the awful weather we had, we were looked after extremely well. The food was plentiful and very well cooked. The rooms were spotless with clean towels every day. We had a kettle in our room, but I understand that not all of them do. The staff were more than helpful and very friendly. I would certainly recommend this Hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a balcony and sea view - or a suite.
