This hotel was superb and luxurious. Right by the sea, lovely views. Best hotel we have ever stayed in. Thoroughly spoilt but obviously reflected in price. The hotel does what it says on the tin !! We only had bed and breakfast and that was best ever. Chef cooks fresh hot food in front of you. You name it they have it. The evening meals could be bought for €15 per person and were excellent. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and nothing was ever too much trouble. Perfect location in a very relaxing resort but we went out of season as wasn't busy. The resort is very flat and ideal for strolling around. May have to concentrate when out walking along the promenade as there is a purpose built cycle path, so beware as some cyclists go a bit fast! Can hire cycles & the family fun 4/5 seater bikes. Resort has plenty if restaurants too. Would fully recommend this hotel and resort.

Room Tip: Sea view or side sea views are the best but you pay extra. However we overlooked the pedestrianised...

I have just returned from an excellent week's stay at this hotel, with my family. The quality of service started as soon as we got off the coach. My daughter was met by the manager who immediately took her bags and showed her into the reception. Not much impresses a 16 year old, but this did. Our rooms - side rooms- were excellent, with nice views of the Med. The air con was quiet and efficient, but at night we kept the doors open, listening to the waves. Perfect! The dining, was also very good. Breakfast was whatever you wanted and cooked as you liked it. Evening dinner again was always varied and good quality. The dining staff provided a first class service. The bar/terrace again was perfect. A good selection of snacks and the daily lunch special that is hard to beat - main, dessert and either a beer, glass of wine or soft drink for €6.50. The bar staff were very attentive and enjoyed a bit of banter. They also pour generous measures, no optics here! On entering the hotel after your adventures, it feels like you are entering your own little cool oasis or as my daughter said repeatedly "we are now entering the platinum zone" with a great smile. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Book a sea view

I booked a package holiday for the first time in years through Thomson Holidays as my husband and I were celebrating our Silver wedding anniversary and we wanted a special holiday with no hassle. We chose this hotel as it was of a good standard, close to all amenities and a short walk to the marina with numerous bars, restaurants and shops.

The hotel is on a pedestrian (and cycle) path so noise from traffic is zero. However, the sister hotel - the Levante - is a huge hotel next door and is extremely noisy! There were constant daytime quizzes, games, bingo and music, all of which we couldn't get away from as our balcony faced the hotel. Unbelievably, people were reserving sunbeds at the Levante from as early as 6.15am - that in itself was entertaining!! The nightly entertainment at the Levant was also very loud and sadly there were no traditional acts - just cabarets, lewd comedians and singers.

Getting back to the Gran Sol we had paid extra for a sea view room with balcony but were given a room on the side of the hotel with a small balcony and a side sea view room, which was very disappointing.

The room itself was furnished nicely but had only one easy chair (for two people??). The bathroom was large with a fantastic shower over the bath and the complimentary toiletries were of a good standard. The hairdryer was better than the usual bathroom hairdryers found in hotels.

The bed was reasonably comfortable but the mattress was slightly hard for me. There was a socket by each bed which was handy for our electrical items. The beverage tray was good although the coffee was decaffeinated.

We had a fridge in the room but that was stocked with items for sale, so not much room to store our own wine/milk etc.

The one outstanding aspect about the whole stay was the breakfast - little touches like homemade lemon and orange marmalade and a superb hot counter where the chef produced delicious eggs and bacon to order.

The hotel staff were OK - not over friendly and not particularly helpful when we needed advice on one occasion.

One other thing to note - there is no car park at the hotel - only one space outside the hotel. If that's taken you have to find a space either at the Levante or on the streets. I certainly wouldn't advise parking on the streets as they're quite narrow and we saw a number of near misses with the large coaches having problems turning corners due to cars parked on the streets.

The weather was perfect during our stay but sadly the hotel did not live up to our expectations. We will not be returning.

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Gran Sol hotel in Cala Bona and would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing peaceful stay in a lovely hotel.

The hotel is spotless, the rooms are spacious and well-equipped and the air-conditioning is fabulous - quiet but it works! As the hotel is small the ambience is excellent - especially in the dining room as, although buffet-style, there is none of the usual hustle and bustle with lots of people constantly walking around. Miguel, the head waiter, is charming and friendly and his staff are helpful and efficient. The food was excellent - my husband says I am a fussy eater but I enjoyed everything. Breakfast was especially good as the eggs, bacon (and black pudding!) are cooked for you there and then and are delicious.

All the staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful and it was obvious that many of the other guests had stayed at the hotel previously (some of them many times) and their "banter" with the staff (mainly to do with football!) was good to see.

We will definitely return to this little gem..

Room Tip: We had a side seaview room (305) which was lovely but would request a front seaview room next time.

I have recently returned from a stay and cruise and stayed the first week in this lovely small hotel. My husband and I booked a junior suite which we were over the moon with. It had a huge sea facing balcony with two sunbeds, two tables and chairs. Rooms were spotless and well furnished. I loved the restaurant which served gorgeous food for breakfast and dinner. If I had one complaint it would be the queue waiting for freshly cooked food, it blocked others being able to help themselves from other dishes. If you do book seafacing room the sun will be gone from your balcony in the afternoon. We went on to spend a week on the Thomson Dream which we were very disappointed with, but that's another story.....

We stayed for a week and absolutely loved it. All the staff are so friendly and helpful and noting is too much trouble. It was my birthday during a stay....which I hadn't told them...and they left chocolates and champagne in our room and laid our table at dinner with candles and scattered colored stars on the table. Such a lovely surprise! The breakfast selection was perfect but we were on half board and we were slightly disappointed with the evening meals, it was generally quite bland and tasted as if it had been prepared many hours before. But that could just be our personal taste, still good value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for a side or back room as these are away from the busy front area
