Just back from spending a week at the Grand Sol. Very nice hotel, friendly staff, great food, great location and great views!
The only gripe I had was that the jacuzzi was cold. Apart from this, had a nice time.

We read all the reviews on this site and were very excited about staying at the Gran Sol. As mentioned in other reviews the hotel has been completely refurbished to a good standard and is very clean and tidy, as you would expect. The room we had was very large, had air conditioning and a nice well appointed bathroom. The food at the hotel was excellent and I have to say that I do miss the amazing breakfasts. The bar serves snacks between 12 and 5 in the afternoon and they are very good and reasonably priced, when compared to many of the restaurants in the resort itself. The staff on the whole are very friendly and all speak good English. Cala Bona/Millor are ok as resorts with plenty of places to eat that cater for most tastes, with the exception vegetarians, who have to make do with usual omellete and chips or pasta. But be warned both resorts are completely dominated by the Germans, so if you have a problem with this then look elsewhere.

Our stay however, was marred by one or two problems with the hotel. The door leading onto the balcony was broken and despite two attempts by the maintenance team to fix it we were left having to keep everything in the safe for our entire stay, which was disappointing when you consider that the hotel had only been open for a few months. The lights in the room were a joke...there was bank of 4 switches that were supposed to adjust the brightness of the lights, but each one seem to have a mind of it's own and several times we found the switches turning a different light on or off completely randomly. On our second from last day we went down to get a snack from the bar and we found ourselves being completely ignored by the waiters who served several people that had sat down after us. When I queried it with the staff, I got a shake of the head and some comments muttered in Spanish, so we didn't eat there after that. I tried to use the gym facilities and found that the multi-gym was broken, but to be fair to the staff a maintenance man did fix it within half an hour of me reporting it.

On the whole we enjoyed our stay at the Gran Sol despite the problems that we experienced and we wouldn't let that discourage anyone from staying there, because there are far worse places. I do wonder how long it will continue to get glowing reviews, because I fear that as the bright finish to the paintwork starts to dim it will become just an ordinary hotel in an ordinary resort, but I guess time will tell.

The Gran Sol is a lovely hotel right on the beach at Cala Bona. The rooms are clean and fresh and the view from the balcony is great . The pool area is more geared for adults than children although only a few steps takes you from the pool to the beach. There was no problem getting loungers, even in August. Breakfast was very well presented and contained all you could reasonably ask for. In particular excellent fruit platters and a chef cooking the eggs as requested. Staff were very friendly and efficient and the setting had a lovely view out to sea.
As mentioned in other reviews the night life and restaurants in Cala Bona are no great shakes, especially if you wanted something beyond Pizza or Pasta and we were glad we had hired a car to seek out other parts of Majorca. {Please note that parking for the hotel is only on the surrounding streets but we did always manage to find spaces without much hassle.)
If however you are looking for a hotel to simply chill out in the sun then this hotel should suit your needs ideally.

Having searched on this website, i chose the Gran Sol in Majorca. This hotel is fantastic. Is sits right on the beach front and you definitely have to book a sea view, as we did, to enjoy the whole experience, this aspect was definitely one of the best bit's of the holiday and breathtaking. Our room was brilliant, it's clear that the hotel has only been renovated of late, with a lovely bathroom and very clean room and facilities. The ‘in room’ tv reception wasn't great but watchable. The pool was good and never overcrowded, infact, myself and my partner were occasionally the only one's in there splashing around a lot of the time, with most people choosing to sun bath on the loungers. The beach is good and although rather stony there are certain parts near the large walkway out to the sea that have only sand at the bottom - you can see that the water is a lot more blue in these areas and it was fun to lie on a lilo in these parts. Cala Millor is very close by and has a vast sandy beach, although there are quite a few waves in the sea, as it isn't as sheltered as at Cala Bona. The hotel was definitely reminiscent of a 4* hotel, the service was excellent and the waiters and service staff ensure the hotel is kept immaculate, the food was above average and good, although it was a bit repetitive as we found ourselves having to eat dinner in the hotel most nights as the surrounding restaurants are just not up to scratch. The area itself was highly disappointing, extremely resorty and although you don't have people on the streets trying to drag you into bars, it was a huge letdown. The bars 'outside' the hotel didn't look very hygienic even along the whole stretch to Calla Millor and i really didn't fancy/(or would go) drinking in any of them. There are a few German bars and a couple of British - mostly in Cala Millor but you know the type - the sing song mentality and very shabby. There is a tapas restaurant beside the harbor - which is the only place i would recommend you to eat 'outside' the hotel! And this was pretty expensive, compared to the 12 euro meals served up inside the hotel.

We tried the Sunday dinner in a pub called the anchor... seriously don't, bad school dinner food at it's worst!!! As well as a complete waste of money, we couldn't even force it down!

All in all, the Gran Sol is probably one of the best hotels i have ever stayed in but i can assure you i will not be back to cala bona/millor. If you are looking for a retreat where you do not anticipate leaving a good hotel and benefiting from the beach on your doorstep... this place is definitely for you. However, if you are looking to go somewhere where you will have a pleasant wander outside the premises please be assured that you will be highly disappointed. I would rather other people didn't go and feel the same disappointment. The area has a huge lack of activity, style, welcome....

Unfortunately, a fabulous little hotel, with very efficient, welcoming and well mannered staff is sitting in a bargain basement of a holiday resort. It’s difficult to find the right hotel and I actually choose this one via recommendations I had seen on this page, (and hence the location of Majorca) however, in hindsight the location is as equally important and this one is massively under par (the worst, since teenage days in the canaries), wouldn’t recommend any of my friends or family to go there.

My wife and I booked this hotel after reading the many rave reviews on this site, and we were not disapointed.
This hotel is worthy of all the praise that has come it's way, the location of this hotel is perfect being on the beach and also within walking distance of Cala Millor.
The hotel is on the small side which is to the advantage of the guests as they can be assured of personal attention by all the staff, Sylvia one of the directors daily monitored and maintained the high standards of the hotel and checked with guests each day that everything was to their satisfaction.
Miguel the head waiter was friendly and nothing was too much trouble, the food was fantastic some of which was cooked in front of you. We dined in the hotel every night of our two weeks stay as there was such a variety something for everyone.
The hotel rooms had everything you needed and were spotlessly clean the beds were very comfortable and had duvets which was a nice change from the usual blankets.
All in all this hotel is well worthy of it's four stars and yes it's new but if they ensure the decor and furnishings are maintained and the food as good as it has been then this hotel will always be at full capacity my wife and I plan to return to this wonderful hotel and won't hesitate to recommend it to anyone wanting a top notch hotel in a great location.

As others have said, this is a fantastic hotel and a great choice if you want something low key and a bit different from your standard tired 4* with noisy entertainment.

Our party consisted of my husband and I, our children (toddler and baby) and their grandparents. Don’t be put of staying here if you are a family. The hotel allows and welcomes children and certainly the week we stayed, guests were mainly young families or couples. We (and other guests with small children) took care to minimise any disturbance to our fellow guests in the public areas and in turn we found people kind and tolerant. There is generally a very nice atmosphere at this small, newly refurbished hotel. The standard rooms are spacious enough to take a cot without the need to move any furniture and the fridge is a decent size. There are 2 lifts serving each split level floor and ramps in the public areas make it wheelchair and buggy friendly.

The room we stayed in had a lovely sea view and a small balcony. The room was very tastefully furnished and had safety deposit box (fee to use), tea and coffee making facilities, fridge, biscuits, fruit, hairdryer and plenty of storage space. The bathroom was lovely and modern with a full size bath and decent shower. The small vase of flowers and bathrobes were a nice touch. My only slight criticism of the room was the bed was 2 singles pushed together and mine tended to float away from the wall a bit!

The breakfasts were excellent (loads to choose from) and the children’s’ grandparents loved the 12 Euro dinner in the restaurant. Lunch on the terrace was also good although service a little slow at times. There is no entertainment at the hotel and we barely saw the rep but this suited us fine. The Levante and Levante Park hotels are right next door and had something on most nights if hotel entertainment is your cup of tea.

The hotel is right on the beach and the water was very clean and pleasant to swim in. The hotel pool is quite small but fine for the number of guests. There were quite a few inflatable lilos, beach balls and buckets and spades left over by previous guests to make use of. The small roof top pool, Jacuzzi and gym looked good but alas, we ran out of time.

I agree the resort isn’t the best, although we found it much busier and much tackier on the Calor Millor side (left out of the hotel entrance). If you turn right, the harbour is a few minutes away and most of the restaurants there are perfectly acceptable if nothing special - I can’t really recommend anywhere that ticked all the boxes in terms of quality of food, service and setting. (There was however a lovely chill out bar past the harbour with great views of the ocean). For us, it was just great to be somewhere different and eating out in the fresh air every evening. Note that there are no lively bars or clubs here which is perfect for people like us after a relaxing break but boring maybe for others.

The Gran Sol itself comes highly recommended. Considering we went in August, I thought it excellent value for such a high quality, brand new hotel. Book it before the prices go up!

This was a 1st class hotel. Modern, clean and luxurious. The staff were friendly and willing. We stayed B&B and the breakfast were terrific. The roof top terrace was good if there were no beds around the pool. Not much entertainment at night. The beach was clean and sandy. Down side -It was rocky in the water and the beach beds and umbrellas were expensive. The beach at Cala Millor was better but very busy. The resort itself was a bit down market, same with Cala Millor. We had 2 sons 21 and 24, there wasn't much for them. It seemed to be mostly older holiday makers. This hotel made all the difference to what might have been a average holiday. If you like this area you must stay here, its fantastic!
