We stayed for 10 days in July, and couldn't find fault with either the hotel or the service. Everything was spotlessly clean and the staff were exceptionally helpful. The food was delicious and the pool was great. We all agreed that we would happily stay here again.

Well, we're still here and aren't leaving for another week. We researched the hotel a great deal before coming and are very pleased to be here. As you find on Tripadvisor, there are some mixed reviews.

1. Staff work hard to make you feel welcome and help you enjoy your stay. 'Work hard' is an understatement. Service here is faultless. We were booked into 2 rooms on different floors and when we pointed out that we wanted the (teenage) kids to be on the same floor, the receptionist shuffled bookings around (note, the hotel is full) and we ended up on the same floor.
2. Rooms are very good. Modern and perhaps with some local styling.
3. Breakfast is very good. The same is on offer every day but the variety is broad and there's a Chef preparing Eggs and Bacon as you like it. We're finding our breakfasts taking longer and longer because we get comfortable and feel no need to rush.
4. The pool is OK, perhaps a little small but the finite capacity of the hotel means there enough pool for everyone. There is a life-guard.
5. Inconsiderate guests do occupy the sun loungers by dropping their towels on them. By the time we've finished our leisurely breakfast, they are all taken and the guest 'reserving' a lounger is nowhere to be seen. However, if you come to Cala D'Or for sun, you are better off taking a lounger somewhere away from the pool. By 'away from the pool', I mean you need to take 10 more paces from the pool to the lounger.
6. Yes, the loungers do not have cushions but are comfortable anyway.
7. Walk out the rear gate and your in the middle of Cala D'Or with is it's eateries and shops
8. If you don't want to fund a car for your whole holiday, don't. A Europa Car rental is right outside the back of the Hotel
9. Clearly, the Hotel has a lot of repeat business and returning guests seem to be known to several staff

I stay in a lot of good quality to luxury Hotels all over the world as an aspect of my work. I can say easily that the Meia is a great Hotel.

We booked this hotel for our summer holiday after years of villa holidays. Our party of 4, two adults and two teenagers meant two rooms so we upgraded to juniour suites. I emailed 6weeks before departure asking for two suites together and seperate showers after reading some reviews, despite a positive reply from the hotel we arrived to find our rooms in different buildings! with showers over the baths. Hmm! Couldnt fault one of the suites but our other one(424) was dark all day with a balcony no one would use. The staff are fantastic, particularly the breakfast waiting lady who was there for13 of our 14 days. One major irritation was finding that people STILL book sunbeds around the pool with their towels from early morning! REALLY! I thought all that stopped in the 1980s. Not enough sunbathing provision around the pool as a result. Overall, an enjoyable time but not worth the very, very expensive price charged by Thomsons for what they claim is 5t ( five star) as it most certainly doesnt merit this rating.

Room Tip: Ask for juniour suite 212. best aspect and balcony provides sunbathing for when the pool area too bu...

We stayed at the Melia Cala D'Or for 4 nights. It was our first visit to Majorca. The hotel is located in Cala D'Or, a small seaside town on the southeast portion of the island, approximately a 1 hour drive from the airport in Palma. The hotel itself is about a 5 minute walk from the beach. The property overall quite nice, and the pool was large with well-shaded seating which we appreciated as we were traveling with a baby. The pictures of the property on the hotel website give the illusion that it is a more luxurious and modern property than is actually the case. For example, we were asked to put our own luggage onto a trolley, after which time we waited in our room for 15-20 min for someone to bring it up (turned out to be the poor pool-side restaurant waiter). Also, ordering food poolside required physically going up to the restaurant to place the order. These are not major issues, but we were just caught off-guard as we expected the hotel to be higher-end based on the website. The property is certainly kid-friendly, with a small section of the pool which is shallow enough for young children and a small playground on the property with swings, slides, etc. We did not eat at the restaurants on property (1 in the hotel, 1 by the pool), so I cannot comment on them. We stayed in suite, with a separate living room so as to have an area for us to relax once the baby was asleep in the bedroom. The bathroom was quite up to date, although the room was otherwise a bit dated. There was a small kitchenette in the living room which was helpful with a young child. As the property is not oceanfront, there are no particularly good views per se. One major complaint was that our balcony on the second floor was unfortunately adjacent to the hallway and lacked privacy, so people in nearby rooms and the maids were able to see and hear us quite easily. The adjacent streets have several restaurants and bars. We sampled several, and found the food to be ok, but nothing special. The beach is a 5 minute walk away, and as seems to be the case with several of the nearby beaches, the beach itself has a small horseshoe configuration, with a small portion of sandy shore at the water edge. This means that unless you get there early, you will have to sit a decent distance away from the water (i.e. you may not even see water if you are sitting far enough back on the sand). However, the water was shallow and calm, which was ideal for young children including our own 15 month old daughter. There are plentiful restaurants especially in the downtown portion of Cala d'Or (10-15 min walk), and more upscale restaurants at the marina (about 20 min walk, may want to drive if you have a car). If you do have a car, I would recommend a drive through the center of the island which offers a dramatically different but beautiful landscape, and a visit to the port of Pollenca which seemed like a nice area to walk around and eat.

Room Tip: Ask for room with balcony facing the pool

The melia cala d'or is undoubtedly one of the best holiday hotels we have stayed in. We had a junior suite, half board, for 9 nights. The room was perfect with a small but well equipped kitchenette, very comfortable, clean, with housekeeping on the ball and looking after everything perfectly. Food is v high quality, and the restaurant service impeccable.

Their staff have perfected the balance between top quality service and friendliness. So you get great service which is happy and smiley and attentive to you personally.

Location is perfect in cala d'or with beaches within easy walking distance but for the best beaches in our opinion worth hiring a car and exploring. Or a boat (we hired a rib from the small port) which was great fun.

Half board thoroughly recommended as hotel food and service unlikely to be equalled in town.

For service , this Hotel is hard to beat. We had three suites and the cleaning and presentation of the rooms were first class every day even the teenagers room! Restaurant attention could not be bettered , food very good with plenty of choice every day. The staff work long hours and the end of season is mid october and they must be very tired when the season ends.Sun beds will be an issue in july and august ; indeed the reviews are generally very accurate. The Hotel will close for 6 months every year and like any establishment that follows this pattern , it seems to leave a slight mark.
very close to town with let's say "something for everyone" ! i liked the small coves and the swimming in fab water , the beaches are only a 200 yrds away. a peaceful oasis from the town.
The Hotel does not have a grand feel to it and the only real bar is at the pool , the dinning at the pool in the photos only seems to be in use during july and august maybe later. sun beds will be an issue in very busy periods.Been in better Spa and Gym the hotel just about ticks the box in this respect.

I wanted to give my Mum the 'holiday of a lifetime' and chose the Melia Cala D'Or in SE Mallorca. I'd researched really carefully and wanted somewhere upmarket but not too stuffy and formal. The hotel didn't disappoint. Quite apart from its beautiful setting and layout with fastidiously clean rooms it was the staff who were exemplary. They were welcoming, courteous, friendly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. My Mum has difficulty walking and we ate in the hotel every evening where we enjoyed great food in a more formal setting. The pool area was delightful although the usual 'towel bagging' of recliners proved a little wearing. However it was great to cool off periodically and we even managed to get Mum in the water which was amazing. We were upgraded on arrival and were offered suites close to each other as I'd asked for. Mum's suite had the most wonderful view over the pool and palm trees and she could relax on her balcony and soak up the ambience. Given my overview of this little slice of paradise there has to be a downside. I think this might be the proximity to Karaoke bars which became very noisy in the evening. To be honest it felt a bit weird to be sitting on your balcony and listening to a terrible rendition of 'eye of the tiger' mixed in with other PA systems. It really didn't spoil things as it was quite amusing. Most guests closed their windows at night and the air-con was super efficient and quiet. All music stops (by law) at midnight. They also have a piano which was a treat for me as I play.
So overall - thank you Melia Cala D'Or - we had a wonderful time - and thank you Mercedes who looked after us so well in the restaurant.

Room Tip: Room 311 has a great over the pool. It's on the 1st floor and has its own kitchen bar.
