Prinsotel Alba Hotel Apartments
Ranked #15 of 46 Hotels in Cala d'Or
Reviewed 26 May 2012

My Partner and I stayed and the Prinsotel for a week in May this year and thouroughly enjoyed our stay.
The rooms are clean spacious and if you do want quiet(not that its really noisy there at all) but the Ibizia blocks were great.
The pool area was great just I could see it being rather packed later in the school holidays but thats why we travel in May as you get good weather and there is not a whole load of screaming kids!
The hotel is just across the road from the beach which when your walking you litteraly stumble upon, I think thats what I loved about Cala Dor no high rise ugly buildings and having a wander you just happen upon all sorts of coves or restaurants.
When you come out of reception and walk to your right keep going and you will come to a great bar called Walshies, Leyton with his partner Hynee and mam Kate are very welcoming and the chicken fajitas are yum! they helped make the holiday.
Across from theres and up over there is more bars and restaurants and the Esmerelda bay.
All in all we had a great holdiay and would recommend to couples for a stunning quiet relaxing holdiay.

Room Tip: Choose rooms near reception for no noise at all.

We stayed at The Prinsotel Alba from 5th - 12 May 2012. When we arrived we waited about 15-20 minutes in the small reception area whilst the 2 receptionists checked in a number of German/Dutch guests. It was obvious that rooms were not ready for some of them,as some of the people were complaining. After having had a half hour delay on the flight and an hour delay on the transfer i was beginning to think it was going to be "one of those days", but when we got to the front of the queue, we were checked in quickly, efficiently and given the key to room 926. Our room was on the 3rd floor of the Santanyi block which is built on to the back of the snack bar. There was a little noise from the bar area but nothing excessive and as it was still quite early season everything seemed to be closed by 11.30 - midnight.
The apartments are very spacious with large lounge/kitchen area, separate bedroom and good sized bathroom. Kitchens had 3 electric rings, full fridge, kettle & toaster and ample crockery, pans and utensils. There is a fitted wardrobe in the bedroom with hanging space and shelves and there is also another large hanging wardrobe in the hallway between the bathroom and lounge. Bathrooms have large sink area, bath with shower over and toilet. Balconies are reasonable size with a table and 2 chairs. Furniture is basic but sturdy and everything was clean. The cleaners came in everyday bar 2. The bathrooms were always cleaned thoroughly, shower curtain & towels changed, and the beds made but the rest of the apartment was only given a quick once over. They certainly weren't the best cleaners but adequate i suppose. The snack bar staff were very friendly, especially the lady, and the food was always lovely and good value for money. Drinks were average price. The pool area is nice with lots of sunbeds. The umbrellas are fixed into the ground and there aren't that many so in high season you would need to get there early to get one. The pool area was always kept really clean and the pool was also cleaned and tested every day. We didn't use the restaurant at the hotel so i can't comment on the food there. Daytime activities are available and the animation team don't hassle you to join in. There is a mini disco in the evening for the kids. Other than that it's just a quiz or bingo at 9pm. The lounge bar wasn't being used while we were there so if you stayed in the hotel in the evenings all the drinks had to be purchased at the snack bar. We went out every evening so it didn't affect us.
The hotel is just a 3 minute walk across the road to Cala Gran beach. There are 3 other beaches close by, Cala D'Or which is about a 10 minute walk, Cala Esmerelda which is about 20 minutes and Cala Ferrera about 30 minutes. All 4 are lovely small beaches and are very picturesque. Cala Esmerelda is the busiest as the Cala Esmerelda hotel complex is beachside. I think that in high season these beaches would be very crowded. Note, we did see quite a lot of Jelly Fish at Cala Esmerelda.
Cala D'Or town is a self caterers paradise with numerous restaurants. You can get vertually anything and the prices were very reasonable. Texas steakhouse is fab for steaks, they are huge! La Sivina is good for tapas, pasta, fish etc. Probabley the best on price is Cafeteria Plazza. We had 2 x Garlic bread starter, 2 x Grilled chicken breast with chips and a huge side salad, and 3 x large beers and the bill came to 26.80 euros = £22.33 ( 1.20e = £1.00 ) Jimmy's bar is good for afternoon snacks or coffee and cake (huge piece) for 3 euros. For Breakfasts i would recommend Marfil's Pizzeria. It's just a 5 minute walk from the hotel, towards town, on the left and they do a brilliant full english for 4 euros or 4.50 euros with mushrooms. They also do lighter breakfasts from 3 euros.
Tropical Gardens is the place to go if you want to listen to a bit of entertainment in the evening. It is an open air bar and every evening they do a mini disco for the kids and then about 9.15 they have a tribute artist. Buble, lady gaga, Winehouse, abba etc. It's free if you use the bar. It is also open during the day and has a swimming pool with sun loungers, and stuff for the kids to do and again is free if you buy from the bar. The Little Tavern is a nice friendly little bar run by Steve & Debs.
Cala D'Or is a small, very pretty resort. It has a lovely marina, lots of good shops, brilliant restaurants and beautiful beaches. If you are looking for a wild night life this isn't the place for you but if you are looking for good food, laid back atmosphere in a lovely place then i don't think you can get much better.
As for The Prinsotel Alba, we like the location and it's clean and basic and ideal to use as a base. we will probably go back

We stayed here the second week in may 2012.We were with 1 child and 3 adults and we stayed in 2 apartments. It surprised me how nice our apartment was. For spanish standards it was good. The badroom is nice and you even have aircon in the room!
The hotel is very well situated, just opposite cala gran and nearby cala esmeralda, could not be better I think.
The pool is very nice although not that big maybe in high season. For now, may, it was just perfect. There is a lifeguard almost all day, which is very good I think. They also try to keep the pool area very clean. Every day someone cleans the pool and all tiles surrounding with a high pressure watermachine. You could do some cooking in the appartment but I would not recommend anything else than a simple egg. There are a lot of restaurants in the surrounding so no need to cook anyhow. Also the reataurant in the hotel is good, although not so cozy ; no music, so bit clinical.
The hotel manager and staff were very service minded and tried to resolve minor difficulties as soon as possible. They obviously want you to be on a happy holiday!
Only thing that was strange is the frequency of cleaning. On thursdays and sundays there is no cleaning, we were informed about that. But the other days sometimes the room was cleaned, and sometimes not. Since we had 2 appartments next to each other it was also strange that sometimes 1 was cleaned and the other not.
Cleaning was very well done although.
Also the animation guys, Maartje and Rafa did their upmost best to entertain the kids and adults. Great respect for them!
All in all it was better than expected and we would really like to go here again next year in may!

Stayed here twice for family summer holidays in June 2010 and July 2011.
We stayed in the apartments beside the pool and the noise never bothered us as we generally stayed up untill the evening entertainment was over.
Sunbeds were not a big issue and you could always get one after breakfast, although the 2nd week of last years holiday it got very busy and the hotel started to chain them up a couple of days before we were due to end our holiday. i don't think I would have liked to have had to endure all that messing around for 2 whole weeks, so thankfully it only got really busy near the nd of holiday.
There was a very big increase in holidaymakers from the UK last summer compared to 2010 were apart from ourselves and 2 other families from ireland and 2 from the UK that was it for english speakers at the hotel, all the rest were mainly German, Dutch, and a few from Norway, Belgium and Sweden.
We went all inclusive both times and it is great value especially for the kids drinks and ices durin gthe hot days. Breakast was always plentifull and sometimes lunch and evening dinner was a bit hit and miss as it mainly catered for the german and other continental guests.. But we never went hungry.
Entertainment group were great for the children and adults alike if you are into it, if not they don't bother you to participate.
Would like to go back again as Cala D'Or is a beautiful spot and the esmarelda beach is a little gem.

I was the second time here, in the same period.
Everything was excellent, exept the room location near the events stage, hence a lot of noise until late in the night.
But.... we weren't in the room very early... so only the first night was really annoying , after the travel.
I would definitely stay there again and highly reccomend.

Room Tip: There are several buildings. The ones near the reception are far more quieter. Preferably avoid the...

Me, my OH and 3 year old daughter stayed here this summer. The room was lovely, and the staff were so nice.
Pool a little bit cold when the sun wasn't out, but was a good size and has an extra childrens pool.
The food however, was vile. Cold, fatty and slimy - we ended up eating out several nights even though we had gone All Inclusive.
The buffet seemed to be aimed at German diners, as the strange sausages and weird meats were gobbled up by them, but spat out by us.
Massive amounts of bread shoved at the end table to cover up the fact that almost everything tasted like sick with token bread and butter.
Cold under cooked eggs and bacon for breakfast, SQUID fingers (?) for dinner, and brown mush for tea- no thanks.
My poor daughter hardly ate for the whole week, until we were forced to dine out when we got worried about her.
I wouldn't go back for this reason, which is a shame as it's a lovely area and could have been a perfect holiday.
If I could give anyone advice it would be to go self catering, as that way you can enjoy the lovely hotel but avoid the food.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are bigger than upstairs!

Good location; 5minutes from the beach, 10 from the village. Very friendly staff, excellent animation for kids. Food was good, much choice. Appartment was good, but not every day cleaning. Only...: such a small tv, a bit hilarious. Busstop to Palma very close. I can imagine that in high season the pool is too small and maybe then it's too busy, but now(october) everything was good.

Room Tip: Ask for an appartment away from the pool and restaurant, that's more quiet.
