“good apartments”
Reviewed 28 June 2012

We enjoyed our week at the prinsotel alba. The rooms were clean and large and the staff efficient and helpful, however some of the reception staff are a bit slow or understaffed as i waited nearly 20 mins one day. Pool area was ok, slightly crowded but that can't be helped. Overall we would stay here again.

We stayed all inclusive at Prinsotel Alba (16th June-26th June 2012)The hotel/staff/animation team extremely good.Facilites in the apartment were excellent as it allows you to do self catering if you want to. We first stayed as a couple for a few days-our daughter and granddaughter came several days later so saw both sides of this hotel-neither disappoint. The review that sunbeds being locked up were unfounded, they were plenty to go round.Only niggle was the aircon in our room worked until last night but our daughters didn't work at all.To sum up and reiterate the staff were very pleasant even though they were busy. For a 3 star hotel complex,we were more than happy-even on last day we could (left early) have a drink and make a sandwich.

We spent 2 weeks at the Prinsotel Alba Hotel in Cala d'Or, fro 1-14 June. We stayed on an all inclusive basis. Overall we find the hotel very good for a family with young kids. The apartments are a good size, a separate bedroom, and living room, so no problem for 2 adults and 2 kids (our kids are 5 and 3). Plenty of hot water 24 hours a day. Balcony good size. We had a ground floor apartment, but would prefer to have been on first or second floor, as we had problems with very loud teenager groups, including an attempt to climb into our apartment via the balcony.

The staff are friendly, although I was surprised with the lack of language skills of many of the staff. The guests are predominantly English or German speaking, and most of the staff struggled in both languages.

Swimming pools are good, especially the kids pool is excellent for smaller kids who are not able to swim or just learning. Water temperature in the pools is very nice, especially in the afternoon. There is also a nice little baby pool with slides, although the water there is a bit cooler.

Organised entertainment was in our opinion average. The kids mini club was very basic, and the morning sessions were pretty boring, resulting in most kids not bothering to turn up. Also the exact same program every week, so for a 2 week stay, no variety the second week. For adults, there are the usual staples, table tennis, archery, shooting, volleyball etc. The water polo session on most days was very popular. In general the team of animators were more or less competent, but the younger ones not put much effort into the kids.

Evening entertainment, starts with the kids mini-disco - pretty standard, fun for the kids. Then ther eis a ffollow up event for adults, things like film quiz, karaoke (strange as the tracks included the original singing, so not really karoke), and some "professional" shows - most of which are pretty average to bad. However it gets the guests chatting and winding down at the end of the day.

One caveat is the free wi-fi, which does not work properly. Many guest realise after a few days the restarting the router gets them in, and so you get "router restart ping-pong", with the selfish guests kicking out the ones already connected, to get their online time. I explained to the staff how to fix the router issue, as an IT professional I could see the problem, and was easily able to get around it on my own set of multi-media and computing devices, so we were online all the time - however as of our last day, the wi-fi problem persisted.

Overall we had a good time, would go back to Cala d'Or and while maybe would go to a different complex, we would not have a problem with this complex next time.

Room Tip: With small kids, look for a room on first or second floor. As far as I can see, all the rooms are th...

Great, yet simple apartment style accomodation that allows you to self cater when you want, or of course make use of the 100's of lovely restuarants in Cala D'or. Great location right on Cala Gran beach, lots of fun facilities such as table tennis, pool tables, swimming pools, entertainement, etc. Didnt eat at the hotel, but the restaurant looked busy as I think many people opt for the all inclusive option...Will definitely consider this hotel again for future trips to Cala D'or as it offers everything you could need or want in Mallorca at a good price.

Room Tip: We had a pool view room, which is fun because of all the pool side entertainment that takes place da...

The Alba Apartments are in an ideal location in Cala D'Or. It was only a 2 minute walk to the main beach (Cala Gran), and only a short stroll to the other beaches in the town. The fantastic marina is only about half a mile away too. A word of warning - each of the beaches are very narrow, and they were all very busy in May, so I'd imagine that later in the season they would be far too busy.

The actual apartments are basic, as you would expect from 3* accommodation - with facilities including a fridge, stove, hair dryer, kettle, safe & a (very small) TV. It didn't look as though any of the rooms had a good view - our balcony looked onto the next apartment block.

We stayed on a self-catering basis, and didn't try the food in the restaurant - there were more than enough local restaurants for us to try.

The swimming pool area looked clean, with a life-guard on duty at most times during the day, though I didn't actually go for a swim - the closest I got was sitting in the bar overlooking the pool.

The downside of the complex was that it was quite noisy at times. House-keeping seemed to start very early some days (around 7:30), which isn't good if you are wanting to sleep on. The basic concrete design of these buildings means that you can hear every movement when beds & chairs are being moved above. Couples were also put in the same blocks as those with young children, who also make a lot of noise. Plus there was a local dog yelping at all hours each night.

Overall, the apartments were basic, but quite good value for money for Cala D'Or

Room Tip: Try for a top floor apartment, as it would probably be quieter with no-one living above.

We stayed at the Alba from 15 - 23 May with our two adult daughters, son in law and grandson. The Alba is a typical three star apartment complex which now offers all inclusive. It's location is fantastic, a two minute stroll to Cala D'or beach, five minutes to Cala Esmeralda and a short walk to the centre with the marina a little further. We stayed all inclusive and certainly did get value for money by booking early, direct with Prinsotel. Overall the all inclusive element was very good, excellent breakfast, acceptable lunch but we did feel there was something a bit lacking at dinner. Perhaps a little more variety might have been in order but having said that the Hungarian goulash and veal stew were excellent although the grilled sea bass is not a dish that likes sitting on a hot plate for too long. But we didn't go hungry and then, of course, you also get unlimited beer, local spirits, tea, coffee, ice cream and cold drinks thoughout your stay, even sandwiches, cake and fruit if you are feeling a little peckish or should we say piggish. My only comment would be that if you are a vegetarian who doesn't eat fish or a fussy eater then perhaps AI is not for you.

The pool area was excellent with a large pool, toddlers pool and a little splashpool with slides and water spouting tree which our two year old grandson thoroughly enjoyed. Water somewhat cold like the sea, but then it was the start of the season. Apartments were fine and it was great that you had the facilities to make that morning cuppa but in all honesty we didn't spend much time in the apartments because Cala D'or has so much to see and explore. The animacion team were friendlier than most but not pushy. Yep, mini disco, quiz nights, bingo but there was a latin group one night who were excellent ... well part from the German mountain biker with his harmonica who thought he would join in the performance .... but that gave us a laugh too, and a chinese acrobat team another night.

This was a return family holiday where we stayed many, many years ago but Cala D'or hasn't lost any of its charm and beauty. In my opinion, it is probably the most picturesque resort in Majorca, and I have certainly visited many over the years. It provides everything a holidaymaker may need without the tacky commercialism. If you want to eat out for a change, or like us a birthday celebration, there is a great choice, the cocktail bar with the talking parrot had a great atmosphere and Edens Paradise is a good outdoor bar with live entertainment every night.

If you want to stray a little outside of Cala D'or, take the bus to Cala Mondrago. A small inlet which opens up into two bays, safe walkways around the cliffs and a nature reserve all well signposted. One hotel, two beach bars, public conveniences and a small shop is all you will find there - perfect.

I would have no hesitation in recommending the Alba or Cala D'or to anyone. Overall an excellent three star but if you want five star luxury then I guess you have to pay for it.

Room Tip: Difficult to say as we travelled low season and anywhere would be acceptable. I expect if you have...

I stayed at this Hotel in May 2012. i found the staff extremely helpful and friendly making you feel welcome and important. The Pool area is well designed, clean and there were plenty of sun loungers. The splash kids pool with watter strays and slides was particularly good for my 2 and half year old nephew. The rooms were clean and comfortable and although we were only given 1 pillow each when we asked we were provide with an extra one.

We went for the All Inclusive option. There was always a nice variety of drinks available throughout the day. The meals times were adequately long which was good as the selection of food from the bar between these times was extremely limited. The breakfast buffett was excellent with ever possible option you can imagine. However the lunch and dinner meals were generally extremely low quality with the exception of the battered squid and the veal casserole. Having said this for the price we paid it was good enough and even if we had eaten out every evening then we still would have had a value for money holiday.

The entertainment provided was good especially for the children.
